I normally see a stylist in Belltown at a very trendy and hip salon. You know the kind that offers wine, lemon or orange water, or tea during your service. I love the pampering but hate the prices. During my recent maternity leave, I didn't want to go into the city for a hair appointment. I decided to follow up on an Evening Magazine - The Best Recommendation for a salon/barber shop in Kent.
I went in to see April to have my hair flat ironed. She did an excellent job, perhaps better than my normal stylist. In addition, I wasn't paying for downtown overhead. I have continued to see her and recently booked standing appointments.
She is quick, friendly and my husband has commented that my hair looks really good these days.
One of the things that I like about this salon is that they cater to ALL hair types. While the salon stylist are Caucasian females, they are very comfortable with ethnic hair. The other stylist, Kelli, has braided my daughter's hair into cute styles very quickly, which has made my life much easier.

Just for a little background, I have 4A hair and perhaps a little 3b in front. So, I use a relaxer to straighten my hair. My favorite relaxer is Phytospecific, Index 1, as I have thin hair. Andrea uses this on my hair and I love it. Before I started seeing her, I was applying my own relaxer or taking it with me to another salon and paying full price for the stylist to apply it. Big rip off.
Anyway, it wasn't the fact that her salon carried the product that impressed me, it was her ability to cut my hair. It was and remains the best cut I've ever had. I like long layers and my hair falls neatly into place regardless of the style (flat iron, naturally dry ).
She doesn't double book, so I am always out of the salon quickly. In addition, the staff is great at Robert Leonard.(downtown Seattle, near Westin Hotel)
Finally, she knows how to handle a flat iron. I'm going in this week for a touch-up relaxer, but when she flat irons my hair the hair stays straight until you get it wet.
Stop in for a consultation. You can also email me and I can provide more details.

Andrea use Phytorelaxer to relax my curly hair. She flat irons my hair to create hair with body and shine.
I really like the salon. The staff is great. If you haven't checked out this Seattle luxury salon that's been around a long time. You are pampered, but not too much. Tea and water are available, but I haven't seen wine. : )

I've edited this post. Originally, I was very excited about a children's activity space on East Hill Kent. We cancelled our membership after two visits. For us, this was not the right place for our child.
The staff was unable to muster enthusiasm for their work. They were unable to connect with all the children. It seemed that our daughter (2 years old) stood in line to participate in an activity more than actually running around and playing. SO, we cancelled.
I was told when I signed up, before the facility opened, that the cancellation policy would be lenient during the opening period. Apparently, that was not true. They refused to refund my money and quoted me their normal cancellation policy. Oh well, live and learn.
I signed up before they opened. Next time, I will take advantage of the free visit before deciding to join. I ended up paying for a full month and we only went to two sessions. We actually disliked it so much, that we did not return to finish out the paid sessions.
Gym Starzz may have been a bit of a drive, but the instructors/owners are very genuine and they learned our daughter's name at her first visit. They actually appear to like children.

My hair stylist, who is very skilled with ethnic hair, has just moved over to Robert Leonard. I have seen her twice at this salon and I enjoy the location. Many other salons attempt to create a spa atmosphere and Robert Leonard does a good job. I do not know much about the other stylists, but I am told that many have been there for several years. My former salon, RED, lost a majority of their stylist, which is a bummer for the clients. So, I much prefer a salon that has happy employees.
So, if you have curly or kinky hair and are in need of a stylist with excellent scissor skills, give Andrea a call. Uhm, since Andrea is Italian she's very skilled with Caucasian hair, but it's much easier to find a stylist to do straight or wavy hair. It's the curly girls who suffer under the hands of hesitant stylist when seeking a silky blow out, flat iron, or a cut that emphasizes the beauty of our hair.
My only negative about this salon is the waiting area and changing closets. It's too small. Luckily, I haven't needed to wait longer than 3 minutes for Andrea.

Today, I visited Khoobsurat in Kent. Pamee threaded my eyebrows and I loved it. It took less than 10 minutes. It doesn't hurt and they have the same nice shape as my expensive esthetician.
How can I ever justify paying anyone $22 to wax my eyebrows, when I can pay $5 for threading that takes less time?
If you've heard about threading, do not hesistate. I am very pleased that I found this Indian salon.
The location is on East Hill Kent. The salon and surrounding buidlings are in fair condition. It's low frills, but comfortable. After all, I was there for less than 10 mintues, so it's hard to recall everything.
Currently, there is construction happening in front of her building (shopping strip), but look closely and you will see the sign.

Excellent Recommendation!
I usually shop at A Child's Closet in Seattle, but now that I've moved to S. King County, that's not reasonable. I came to Judy's Book and asked about a resale shop with nicer children's clothing. A couple of people metioned Heaven Sent.
I brought a bag of clothes to sell and shopped for my toddler. There was a nice selection of summer clothes and shoes. All of the clothes I brought were nice pieces. In other words, pieces that I might purchase in a resale shop (name brands or store brands that are fairly new). They rejected only a few items and only because they had stains. Actually, had I seen the stains, I would not have included them.
I purchased a pair of sandals (Kai Run), hair accessories and book for my daughter. I just returned from D.C. where I shopped for her, so I did not have a true need to buy her clothing.
I will return to Heaven Sent in the fall. I have a big bag of cold weather clothes to sell and I hope to pick up great pieces for my daughter.

I took private and then semi-private lessons at Pilates Northwest in north Seattle. I loved it. My workouts were on the machines (reformer, cadillac, wunda chair, barrel, and other equipment). I suggest a set of private lessons before doing mat classes. Learning how to control your core and how to duplicate those feelings in a mat class will go a long way in getting the results you desire.
I have never taken a mat class, but I have done the Winsor videos and I'm glad that I had a year of instructions on the machines. Look for a good teacher, as s/he can make each expnsive session worth the money.
Results: Stronger core and a different walk. I looked better, but I did not lose weight.

I have hired plumbers from Fox Plumbing three times. Each time, I have received excellent customer service and service beyond what was expected.
Today, one of their employees, Rick, installed three toilets in my home in 2 hours. He performed a couple of other services and provided a home inspection of my plumbing system that was better than the $400 inspection I paid for during the home purchase process. Many of the items discussed were do it yourself projects and he stressed that they were only recommendations.
