Great doctor, great nurse, receptionist not so great

Friday, May 02, 2008
We take our 2 yr old to this doctor. He is great. Friendly, good with our kid. He has three younger kids of his own, so he knows and speaks from experience about what you may be going through yourself. He is helpful and you can reach him after hours, though he is very serious and not chatty when he calls you after hours. Wife is a nurse in the maternity ward at Queens, so both are really involved with the medical profession. He is only open during the weekdays, which is understandable as he has a family to care for as well. The nurse Liz, in the office is great, friendly, remembers you and your kid's name. Very personable in and out of the office. Seems to be very busy all the time in the office, as though she does everything the doctor doesn't do, yet still takes the time to acknowledge you and make a little small talk. Always sympathetic when your kid is sick. The receptionist is probably the only downside. She is not very friendly, doesn't acknowledge you when you come in the office, and isn't helpful when scheduling appointments. Though it is somewhat understandable, as she is the "gatekeeper" in a sense like secretaries are. It seems like she gets annoyed when you ask her anything. I have noticed that when the doctor takes a Friday off, she isn't in the office on the following Monday and it seems like Liz is handling everything. We've never had to wait long for an appointment, and as the other reviewer commented, he does have a strict 15 min late policy where you need to reschedule. I would have rated 5 stars, except for the receptionist's attitude.
