Located on the corner of Highway 1 and 540th Street just north of Kalona. You can see it from a ways away with the silo that has the name on it. When you first walk in, the smell of bleach is strong. You can watch them making curds through the windows. There are samples of cheeses to try. The chocolate cheese sounds gross, but is really pretty good. They are best known for the “squeaky cheese,” the cheese curds.

This is a grocery store run by the Old Order Amish. They purchase food in bulk and then divide it into manageable family size packages. You really never know what you will find. Some of the other health & beauty items are very outdated. But the prices on the spices and other bulk items are very cheap. There are noodles, cereals, powered mixes, nuts, dried fruit, Jell-O, candy and homemade bread. It is best to go when lights aren’t needed due to the gas lighting they use, gives me a headache. They are also closed for German Holidays.

What a unique boutique tucked just off of 7th Avenue in Marion. There is free parking just outside their doors, but very limited. I did not realize this place was here until my sister showed me. They carry the oddest and yet really cool accessories for women. They also have some clothing, but it really isn’t my style. Fun store to visit.

This is a great local nature center to attend. There are lots of outdoor trails you can either hike on or ride your bike. I have attended during the maple syrup harvest. The employees are more than willing to explain things to you. There is a gift shop in the basement of the barn. They also have some habitat exhibits on display to show you the different ecosystems.

This is a unique art store. I noticed that they have several pieces along the main drag of Marion. My favorite is the funky man playing a saxophone with ivy growing out of the bell of the horn. There are several different types of art inside the gallery. It is definitely a place that is fun to stop by and check out the different media of art.

If you are a chocolate lover, then this is a stop you must make if you are passing anywhere near the Amana Colonies. There is limited parking just outside their building. They have a great selection of fresh fudge to choose from. My personal favorite is the Turtle Fudge and the Peanut Butter Fudge.

Nice selection of sterling silver findings as well. Lots of samples on display in the store and a table to work at to create your beaded design right there in the store.
