The name and location of this restaurant are deception. Yes it has a deli counter and sells fish and seafood. But what it really is is one of Long Beach's best unknown lunch spots (also open into early evening on weekends). For $8-$12, you can get an excellent filling lunch--large pieces of grilled fish (all kinds including yellowtail, albacore, snapper, bass, etc.) with a choice of rice, fries or cole slaw. Or if you want a lighter meal for a few bucks, try the seafood chowder or clam chowder in a sourdough bowl or just a regular bowl. You can also get fried fish, oysters, shrimp, crab, etc. They offer seafood tacos, and the shrimp tacos are excellent. Seating is outside at picnic tables where you can watch the fishing boats go out.

This small strip mall shop has a few tables and very good Indian food at great prices. The main dishes like the chicken marsala and tikka are quite good—and there’s both meat and vegetarian dishes. The naan is excellent and made fresh while you wait--the garlic naan is exceptional. Their prices are extremely reasonable, making this a great takeout option alternative.

Soda Jerks not only has a fun atmosphere and a classic old soda fountain counter—it serves the real thing including drinks you just can't find any more like egg creams. It also is one of the only places I know that serves Fosselmann's ice cream (once again, the real thing—cream and all-real ingredients). They also have great burgers, fries and salads—and their tuna melt is the classic at its best!

They have excellent margaritas along with nice fresh crispy tortilla chips and salsa. Their chile relleno and chicken mole enchiladas are two of the better offerings, but the food tends to be quite good overall.

They have a great variety of delicious salsas to choose from and their menu is delicious as well as inexpensive. The chicken taquitos are excellent. Feel like you're getting a cold? It's a little pricy (around $6-$15 per dish), but in keeping with most of Old Town's moderately priced restaurants. On weekends, they typically have a guitarist and flamenco dancers. It can get quite noisy inside, so if it's a busy night and there's only a couple of you ask for one of the few tables outside.
