We purchased a special-ordered new 2005 Mustang GT. They got our order perfect, it took only about 10 weeks, and they did not try to convince us to buy one already on the lot that wasn’t exactly what we wanted (other dealers didn’t even try to look at what we really wanted). They put the paperwork through easily and kept us informed as to when the car was being built, shipped, etc. The paperwork did take a long time, as we had an older gentleman processing it, but he was kind and polite. We got our first oil change free also. I would recommend buying a car there because you get what you want, quickly, with no typical car-salesmanship.

The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra is an amazingly talented orchestra that is a treat to hear. Their repertoire is outstanding and their selection of featured musicians who come to town to play with them is likewise fabulous. You will not be disappointed with their level of perfection and depth of musical grasp, so long as you choose a concert with composers you enjoy. The symphony brings joy through music to Charlotte, but they exude a friendliness even from stage. A wonderful, wonderful way to spend an evening, at one of their concerts.

If you want a great theatre with ~20 theatre rooms, this is the one! Very clean, good selection, and nice people there. Added bonuses are the Cherry Coke you can get as a drink (nice change from the regular selection) and the fact that they let you put your own (extra) butter on the popcorn – you can even ask for them to layer it and they’ll hand you a half-full bag of popcorn for you to put butter on before the bag is full. Good candy selection too. As with all theatres, the food is pricey, but this at least has good taste!

Jitterz is a wonderful little coffee shop that maintains the feeling of a small-town know-every-customer type place. The baristas are very friendly and willing to help with questions. It really only gets very busy on weekend nights, but the service there never makes you feel like you’re being rushed. The coffee is excellent, there’s a good selection of teas, and a fairly good selection of wines. They also sell Hershey’s ice cream (milkshakes, too). There’s a nice-looking dessert/pastry selection although I’ve never indulged. Weekends there’s live music at select hours and that adds to the quaint atmosphere. We often play chess while sipping a cappuccino or a Chilean merlot. Wonderful place for nighttime relaxing, or grabbing that morning cup.

My experience with the food was that the taste was nothing to rave about. They served the meal on a very large round piece of bread, which was neat, but the bread tasted really sour and plain. The spices were nice, but nothing stood out as being terrific. Atmosphere wasn’t very good. There were murals on the wall and some middle-eastern motif, but the room felt bare and so open that it was non-private. I would look elsewhere.

Villa Antonio is Charlotte's undiscovered gem. Picture this: You drive up to a quaint villa-style restaurant, complete with palm-like trees just gracing the front, just off South Boulevard yet easy to miss. Inside, the décor is warm, dark-wooded, and gently lit. The waiters in tuxes attend to your needs, but stand aside simply replenishing water and bread, if you desire to take 30 or 45 minutes before you even open your menu. They give you the impression nothing delights them better than tending to your needs. The food was quite impressive, although the lobster bisque was suppose to be in a sundried tomato-rosemary bread bowl and it was definitely just plain bread! The filet mignon encrusted in peppercorns in a kahlua-espresso cream was such a symphony of rich and beautiful flavors, I could not contain my delight! The desserts ALL looked tantalizing! Tiramisu was great. A guitarist walks about the dining room softly serenading dinner guests. The kicker: At 9pm Fri-Sun there’s live piano music in the bar room with the Italian dance floor! We danced and the music was wonderful dance-music, romantic and slow. The entire experience was our best Charlotte dining one ever! Wonderful for any anniversary!

Lava Java really understates itself. Seriously. You look at it from the outside and think it’s a coffee shop and “café.” You walk inside and the waitor is extremely attentive, excellent manners, and very nicely dressed. The menu has an excellent selection of coffees, fabulous mixed drinks, wines, beers, elegant and tantalizing appetizers, sandwiches or full meals, as well as a convincing dessert menu. While we came for coffee and a sandwich, we ended up having Irish coffee and an elegant (though small) meal. The spinach artichoke dip was superb. We got out at $20, though we did not order a full meal. This place is a great choice for a nicer meal with some excellent coffee.

This is a wonderful place to stock up on wine at great savings. Total Wine has a very good selection of wines from the world over at lower than average costs. You will not get them cheaper unless you go to a wine warehouse. They sent out flyers with monthly specials that are even more reduced – nice wines like the ’02 Benziger Reserve Chardonnay. Averages $30, they sell for about $25 and on sale it’s something like $21. Nice selection of California, Italian, Chilean wines. Great experience. They even carry a selection of half-bottles. Good beer/mixer section, didn’t look closely. Definitely the place to go to if planning a party with alcohol. Highly recommended.

Carowinds is an excellent place for a day of fun, whether with just a couple people or a whole family. The park has a section with roller coasters, kids rides (carousel, etc) family rides and also a section with water-park rides (summer only), so you can have a day with both! There are also live shows and little shops spread throughout. The roller coasters were varied and two of the best for the thrill and speed are Top Gun and Drop Zone. The vaunted new Borg Assimilator wasn’t anything special (facedown ride). The water park was pretty good for it’s size, but no real terrific slides (very enjoyable for younger children, though). Everything is expensive, especially food, so bring a picnic basket and eat outside Carowinds on the large sections of nice grass under shady trees. A Fun Recommended Place!

Portofino's pizza was particularly excellent. Their selection of toppings was extensive, and what we got was extremely fresh and Very Tasty! The featured pizzas were an incredible medley of flavors that was pleasing to the palate. The atmosphere was good, the service was also good (neither outstanding). But it is one of Charlotte’s best pizza places, I think.
