Seventeen has been around for years. I dont really know how I feel about the magazine; im not in love with it yet I dont think it stinks. Im neutral. This is a magazine for teenage girls (yet there are always random comments by rare boys that also read the magazine), and it talks about everything from beauty to health to sex to fashion. This is plainly a teen read, I dont think anyone above the age of 20 would really appreciate the magazine. They always have a page of freebies (for which you enter on seventeen.com) where you can win oerfume, technology, clothing, etc. They always have hair and makeup tricks as well as fashion advice. Each issue has a different workout routine. They also have real stories (often disturbing) in their real life section that talk about the different experiences of girls today. Its an ok read and you can get it pretty cheap with a good offer (less than a $1 per issue), never pay the cover price!

Coupa is a nice little coffee shop in the middle of downtown Palo Alto. This is basically another competator of Starbucks but some people like it better because it is more "personal." I prices are about the same except for the pastries are actually a little pricier (At starbucks you will pay $1.85 for a scone whereas at Coupas its about $2.50.) They also serve single chocolates. You pick out a couple little chocolates with your coffee and then pay a pretty good sum! When I first walked into this place and smelled it, and looked at the menu and the little chocolates I was immedietly reminded of the movie CHOCOLATE. They also had that Mayan spice thing going on and it jsut came back to me. I would definitly recommend this place.

Really, this is just a place to spend the night. Dont be fooled by the name, there is nothing spa about it. It just hots a pool like all the other little cheap motels and inns around. We just ended up here just once when we were in South Lake Tahoe for this weekend to Ski Heavenly. The place is pretty well located, but not as well as some. That is why this place is much cheaper. You have to walk a few blocks to get to the Gondola (Nevada side of Heavenly) so you cant really be wearing you ski boots, you have to take them with you and then get a locker or something. We checked out a few rooms and most of them were really small (like other cheap inns) but they have one room with a microwave, refrigerator, and walk in closer which is significantly bigger than the rest. Try to ask for that room. Because of its location this place is cheaper. During the winter when I was asking around this room was $70 when the closer ones were $105. Oh, and its right next door (almost) to the casinoS!

I've been here just once but its not because the place is bad, this is just really far from where I live. Big Daddy's is located not far from Heavenly Ski Resort. I wandered in here because we were driving around just looking for a place to eat after and nice long day of being out on the slopes. Yes, the name got me. Its kind of this diner type place which serves, yes you guessed it, burgers! They were quiete tasty. Tasted fresh, but I mean its a burger, not very easy to spoil a burger. Not fancy, just a place to eat something, so the prices are biggere than McDonalds yet not restaurant status. I'd suggest you pop in if you;re just curious, if not, theres nothing that special about it.

From the outside this place looks pretty weird. But lets admit it, it is pretty weird. You pass right by it (because its no South Lake Tahoes main road) anytime you are going to the hotels or Heavenly Ski Resort. Its a really weird looking shack of a place. It hosts what looks like a hand painted sign and stands next to a run down fence. It serves burgers (obviously.) They are pretty good (I mean its just a whole bunch of stuff piled together) and are moderatly priced. You sit either in your own car or on some picnic tables. Not fine dining at all. Just somewhere to grab a bite and go. If you are the type that needs fine living, dont go here.

The Red Pepper Grill is a pretty cheap Mexican Restaurant. Its is located right on the border between Los Altos and Sunnyvale on Homestead Road. This is not a fancy restaurant by no means. This is a place to go to if you want to go out and eat but not to a fast food place (although Im not sure this would be healthier either.) The interior is kind of cheap looking. Its kind of like a diner with plastic chile lights and random Mexican decorations. The menu is pretty much all the same: Tacos, enchiladas, burritos, taquitos. Im not sure if this is because my idea of a burrito is that of Chevy's or Chipotle, but i thought these burritos tasted really cheap. Maybe this is the traditional Mexican burrito, I dont know. But it was all very plain and very bland: just some ground meat stuck inside a tortilla. Im not really sure if I would recommend this place, but in my own taste I think next time I'll go to Chevy's (but it would be more expensive).

The Elephant Bar is actually a pretty cool restaurant. Its all jungle/safari themed and its just a really cool place to eat out either with your family or friends. Its called a bar but in reality its a restaurant, although they do have a bar section. What I like about them is that their prices are fair. They have a little bit of everything (and its so yummy) and you pay about $9-15 a dish. Their type of food is.....well there really isnt a central theme. They have chicken, they have stake, they have a whole lot of shrimp, they have Thai noodles....Its just hearty good food, with a lot of flavor. You definitly need to make a reservation because this place gets full. If you dont have a reservation they will give you one of those vibrating beeper things while you wait. Come try them!
p,s, right now when you buy a gift certificate from them for $25, you get $5 free. I like to do this nad just spend it myself!

Terra Nova is a fairly new magazine published by a Russian family for Russian readers. The magazine is all in Russia (the adds, the interviews, the columns.....) It is just starting out so it is not very well known yet and mostly centralized in the San Francisco Bay area. The really cool thing about it is that they have very interesting interviews with a lot of people. They get people who are known to the Russian public of the bay and in whom they are interested in. The magazine is free so far and you can pick it up in more Russian-affiliated stores around. It does cost money to subscribe becasue they have to send it to you if you cannot get to it yourself. If you are a Russian speaker in the area I suggest you check it out.

I was just down in Los Angeles this weekend and I decided to get a manicure. This place was just a couple of blocks down from my friends' house so we decided to go there. The thing that attracted us most was the prices. I remember that it was $15 for both a manicure and a pedicure. If you wanted french tip you had to add $3. add $5 for a design. It is a place owned by Korean's I think they were. The entire time I was there the TV was turned to some channel where there was a minister preaching to his congregation. Hmmm....I dont know, I just thought that was interesting. I was getting my nails done and everything seemed fine. But when I got my french tips I wasn't really satisfied with my manicurist's work. I felt bad but I asked for it to be redone. The second time was better but still not the bomb.
However, it started coming off 2 days later! IS that really how long a manicure should last? I dont think so.
I think I would still concider coming back here, I would just get a solid color however. It is easier for the manicurist to do and I would hope it would last longer.

I just went to this resevoir for the first time this 4th of July. It was a beautiful lake with wonderful waters. I stayed in one of its campgrounds and for the first couple of days everything went so well, it was heavenly (funny[ish] story to follow.) The water was perfect temperature. It wasnt too cold like a mountain lake, yet it wasnt too warm so you feel like you're swimming in pee. It was just perfect. The weather outside was really hot, I'd say 90 something. But when you went into the water it surprised you for just a second, and then the rest was just pure bliss with freshness flowing into your body.
hmm....but what happened on July 3rd?
One of my friends and I were relaxing in the sun after a nice swim when everyone starts screaming "get out of the water, get out of the water!" There were two OTTERS in the water who had just ATTACKED a man! Here are the ghory details (sorry!): they chewed on his ears and scratched up his back.
But that wasnt it. Apparently a 16-year-old girl got attacked just 2 days before! She had (prepare) bites all over her arm, foot, and BUTT!
Have you ever heard of ferocious otters before?
I didnt think so.
They closed down the lake and all the trails after that.
But after all of that, I still have wonderful memories of that water and all the joy it brought us on our Fourth of July weekend. (and a couple surprises.)
