The classic Soho shoe emporium uptown. The shoes don't fit my taste but a female friend of mine recently scored a great pair of shoes on sale for $50. The service was quick and friendly. They carry more women's shoes then men's shoes but if you're a guy who wants some stylish shoes in a no hassle nice atmosphere you could do a lot worse than Varda.

Personally I think these are the nicest Italian shoes I've ever seen. It's a really expensive shop, kids shoes at $300 being the most extreme example. Still you can purchase a pair of men's shoes for $350 or so. The one problem being for a guy like me my $350 shoes have to be conservative in appearance and Tod's are a little to fashionable. The women's bags look great and the staff seems genuinely warm.

These guys make it all and they make it well. The latest in Italian fashion. Your wallet will cry after a visit here. A pair of boys shoes can run you $200. Expect to pay around $300 for a pair of men's shoes and women's shoes can run $200 - $500. The merchandise is all made of high quality material and gorgeous to look at as well. This is a class store and the staff is very friendly. They do sell some fur so if that's a problem for you be aware of it in advance.

I bought shoes here when I was in High School 30 years ago and have bought shoes here in the last year. It's usually crowded so be prepared to wait and be a bit annoyed. The selection is pretty good and the employees know their shoes. It seems to be getting progressively more expensive but then again so do most things in New York these days. they carry classic looking shoes and can handle men , women and children.

The American branch of the famed Jermyn Street shirt makers. These shirts are gorgeous and even though their is a definite house look they provide enough of a selection and variety of colors to have something for everyone. It's not cheap here $85 - $200 per shirt but they are high quality items and are beautiful to behold.

These are some of the nicest most comfortable mens shoes out there. Just be prepared to brn a hole in your wallet to buy a pair. Including sales tax you will most likely spend $300+ for a pair. These are extremely conservative understated shoes that you would wear to an important business meeting or a semi-formal event. The leather is so soft and the designs are classic so once you've bought a pair if you treat them right you can wear them for years.

Across the street from Sounds these are also veterans of the East Village music scene. Tons of Cds and always check outside as you find from time to time a bargain box. The basement is where all the vinyl has migrated to and there is a lot of good old stuff to root through. The selection seems to be pretty good and over the years I've scored some tough to find Cds but I've never gotten anything that was a stone cold great deal. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable.

I've been walking up the stairs to Sounds for over 20 years. When I first started shopping it was all vinyl now almost all CD. The selection is as good as whatever has walked in the door over the last few days as they sell used CDs. I've probably bought 100+ records and Cds here over the years and have never had to return one for scratches or poor quality. The prices are fair and every once and awhile I've gotten something I really wanted cheap.

These guys have tons of live performance Cds by a wide selection of bands. Some have mediocre quality but where else will you find 20+ Deep Purple live shows from the 70's ? They also have a nice selection of oddball music magazines from all eras. They also have a bunch of vinyl (old and used) that covers most of the rock era. An interesting place to shop but be prepared for some sticker shock when you see what they charge for some of the live material.

They've been around for quite awhile now. They pay very little when they buy but your CD then becomes a valuable rarity when they go to sell it. That being said they have a very well organized selection and the staff is pretty good at knowing what they have in stock. Their is a lot of good stuff here in the $10 - $20 range although that can add up quite quickly when you find a stack of stuff you want.
