New York Hall of Science - tops in field trips 6/24/2006

Need a place to take your kids that won't bore you or them? The New York Hall of Science might just be the place to take them because parents, teachers and children have all called it one of the best field trip destinations in the city (New York Magazine). New York's only hands-on science and technology center, NYHOS may be the standard to meet for science exhibitions, and with over 150 fascinating exhibits, it's a hard act to follow. Located in Queens, off the Long Island Expressway, 108th Street exit, this museum boasts interactive exhibits which are hands on and invite kids to join in and learn. Thoughtfully the exhibits are arranged by grade to allow maximum participation (3-7 and 7-12) and I've never seen anyone bored here. The current CSI exhibit explores the creepy, crawly world of forensic entomology (bugs) and how bugs are used to solve crimes--if you're a fan of the TV show CSI, you'll understand this. Hours are: Monday and Tuesday, 9:30am - 2pm (these days for groups only). Wednesday thru Sunday, 9:30am - 5pm (groups and public). Closed Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Years It's recommended that you make a reservation at least eight weeks in advance for class trips and large groups. The price is right, just $3.50 per adult and $2.50 per child (Wednesday & Thursday afternoons, 2-5 are free). Handicapped accessible. more
