They were both taken to the Lewisville Animal Hospital. Why, you might ask? Somehow my dog wedged a three inch wide stick across the roof of her mouth.
My wife and I saw that she hadn't eaten all day and she was putting her paw up to her mouth constantly. We checked her mouth, but couldn't find anything. We checked a few times as a matter of fact and couldn't find anything wrong with her.
We took her to the LAH and within thirty minutes our dog had been examined, sedated, and worked on. The stick was wedged across the roof of her mouth near the back of her doggy throat.
We gladly paid the $100 and went home. We got an extra bonus because the sedation didn't wear off for about 30 minutes. So our normally antisocial dachshund became playful and terribly unbalanced. We all laughed for a long time about that one.
...and that's why the Easter Bunny lays eggs...The End.

I was in an auto accident nearly two years ago. I immediately called the Bonneau Law Firm because of his standing with a close friend of mine.
My case was a complicated one that he took without hesitation. He was immediately helpful and made sure that I knew what steps were to be taken next after each meeting or action. He and his staff were nothing but kind and answered any question, no matter how stupid, with 24 hours.
The case has dragged on for a while now because of the "other" people's noncompliance in some matters, but every time I felt down about the accident and what it might mean for me either Mr. Bonneau or one of his assistants supported and encouraged me to stay positive.
Now that my case is nearly completed I look back and remember several instances when I just wanted to give up and forget about the entire episode. Luckily, I had the Bonneau law firm on my side to ensure that justice would be satisfied.

So I go to my sister's house for bar-b-q, but they don't have the fixin's. Instead of spending hours going to the store and preparing the que'er she suggest that we visit a local Mexican restaurant, Don Pepe's.
I had never been there so I wasn't expecting much.
The restaurant can be found at the end of a shopping center off of Coit road in Dallas near Richardson. It's a bit older looking both on the outside and inside. Who ever decorated the place simply threw Mexican themed stuff all over the place and called it a day. It looked like a trough.
So we walk in and sit down. The place was fairly busy and a bit loud, but not too bad. We are immediately greeted by a waiter, he gets our drinks, and before we know it the drink are at the table with some chips and salsa.
The salsa was FANTASTICO! It was a bit over loaded on the onions, but in this case, it didn't matter. It was sweet and tomato-ish with a hint of cilantro, jalepeno and onions. There was also an after taste to it that had a bite, almost like black pepper, but it wasn't. The chips were good and the tortillas weren't home made, but they sufficed.
The iced tea. I don't know what brand they used, but it was pretty good. I don't usually comment too much about drinks, but the tea tasted very clean and had a hint of mint, I believe. The glasses also stay full the entire time we were there. If our waiter didn't fill up the glasses one of three other waiters did! Excellent team work!!!
My wife and I ordered a fajita plate that included beef, chicken, quail, and ribs. The beef fajita meat was average. It was a little tough, but spiced pretty nicely. To be fair, I did wait to eat the beef last, but it was the least appealing of what was offered on the place. The quail was good as quail goes. It tasted a little like dark meat chicken, but a little saltier. The quail was still on the bones, so it took me a while to get through that portion of the meal. No complaints, though. The chicken fajitas were excellent. They were covered in grilled onions which seeped a bit of that onion bite into the chicken. After I mixed the sour cream, great salsa, beans, and pico I opened my mouth to a splendid treat. The ribs, ah yes, the ribs. They were a tiny bit on the dry side, but that's exactly how I like them. The sauce was different, but excellent. It was bar-b-que sauce with some extra spices in them ( I couldn't identify them) but the sauce made the ribs the best part of the meal. Luckily my wife wasn't all that hungry and she let me make a pig of myself by eating all of those excellent animal ribs.
The waiters were great. Every time we needed something we got it within a few minutes, if not less. They were attentive, but not overbearing.
I also ordered a mint julep type alcoholic beverage. It had rum, mint liqueur, and some other stuff that I couldn't identify. It tasted like sugary water with alcohol and mint. It sounds weird, but it was different a really good. I drank it real hard.
My complaints: rice was not included on the fajita caddy. We got sour cream, guac (excellent guac, by the way), pico, but no rice. That hurt a little. My second complaint, they did not have a baby changing station in the men's restroom.
If you haven't been by Don Pepe's and you live in the north Dallas region, you really need to stop by.

Cafe 407 is tucked away behind some fast food restaurants in a shopping center on FM 407 in Flower Mound.
There really is no decor here. It's just white floors and white walls and average chairs and tables. The food however is completely above average in most respects.
Whatever dish you order you will get enough to take some home for a nice lunch the next day. I'm a big guy (trust me) and there has never been one occasion that I could completely finish everything on my plate.
The food is great and served pretty quickly. My favorite dish, the Orange chicken, is served with either white or fried rice, orange chicken, bamboo shoots, and those red hot pepper looking things.
This is the ideal place to order out. Based on the amount of money spent on the inside of the restaurant, I'm sure the owners weren't looking to make you feel comfortable, they focused their attention on their food!
It's not a buffet, but it eats like one!

Anamia's Tex-Mex Restaurant has a different feel on the inside than other Tex-Mex places. With high ceilings and nice earthy tones, iron chandelier lighting, it's hard to remember you're in Lewisville.
There is a small bar area is separated from the dining area with an open wooden grid of shelves that makes the place look and feel like you are in someone's house. Brightly colored prints of country homes decorate the walls, and Mexican music is played at a level to add ambiance rather than dominate the conversation. Because there are high ceilings and polished concrete walls the restaurant tends to be fairly loud.
The salsa is above average. Just like another local Tex-Mex favorite, the salsa has too many onions for my liking. Most of my friends, though, are pleased with the taste. Tortillas are home made (to make my wife happy) and the chips are of an ok sort.
The fajitas are pretty tasty in that the chicken, for whatever reason, is juicier that other restaurants. Wrap that juicy chicken in a homemade tortilla with some Mexican rice, cool sour cream, and some of that oniony salsas and you've got yourself one heck of a fajita.
Chicken with mushrooms is a "different" sort of plate. It is served on one of those fajita-style skillets. There are so much onions, pablano peppers, and mushrooms that you have to dig to find the large portion of chicken breast. Everything tasted fresh and slightly spicy. Tender was the chicken. I wrote it like that so you'd know that it was so good that it made me invert my sentence structure. The rice and vegetables that were included as sides blended well with the entrée.
The combination plate (Maria's) included so much food that they had to serve the dish on two separate plates. The is your run-of-the-mill plate with your run of the mill flavors. Nothing special here except a bunch of average Mexican food, at least compared to the chicken and fajitas.
The glasses are about average, so I did have to get refilled a few times. The wait staff took care of business and I didn't have any complaints.
Anamia's is a pretty good place to get your eat on as long as you don't mind a loud interior to go along with your good food..

This is not a Chinese Buffet. About the only time I will ever eat Chinese food is if it's included in a buffet. That way I can eat until I explode because Chinese food just doesn't fill the tummy like other food does.
Rice Boxx is one of the few Chinese places I'll go that is not a buffet. You get plenty of food, the price is cheap relative to the amount of food you get, and the food tastes pretty awesome. You can either dine in or take your box load of food home. Your stomach will be happy either way.
I usually get the Kung Pao or the General Tso's plates. Both are just spicy enough to let me know they are there, but not so spicy that I'll regret it later. You get free refills if you dine in. Afterwords, you always have the option to visit the Starbucks a few doors down to get some after dinner coffee and maybe a pastry.
Rice Boxx is certainly above average in every aspect!

My wife and I just had a son. It's difficult leaving him in the care of anyone who is not a family member. But when we visited and interviewed the owner of Cooper's Cribs we knew that this was the place for our newborn son.
The woman who runs the "crib" was a teacher who had decided to stay home and watch her son. Since her income was gone and her husband was a teacher too, she decided to supplement it by watching her teacher-friend's children as well. After a while, her friends talked to other friends and word spread that this was the place to put your kids if you wanted personal and motherly attention paid to them.
As I mentioned, the woman who runs the place was a teacher before she retired to watch her and her friend's (who are mostly teachers as well) kids. She taught for 7 years and before that she worked in a daycare center for 5 years. She has a degree in nutrition and used her degree to work at a nursing home to take care of elderly patients. As you can see, she has an extensive background in childcare and/or child related experience. We really felt good about her background when we interviewed her.
Because she works out of her home, she does not have too many spaces open, so call as soon as you think you may need a good daycare center for your child.
The only negative is that she only watches newborns to preschool aged children. She doesn't do school pick ups or watch children who are in K-5. I'm not sure what the cut off age is, but I know she doesn't watch middle school and some or most elementary school kids. Uhm...call her and ask her, I'm not sure exactly how accurate I am on this information.
If you have a child or children who are not in school yet and would like them to have personal attention, contact Cooper's Cribs today. I can't recommend them enough.

The University of Dallas politics department is today what the University of Chicago's politics department was in the 1960s: A Mecca for original thinkers concerning our political situation. When I say "our," I, of course, mean America's situation. The professors at UD look to the American Founding for their political guidance. That is not to say that they are libertarian. As these days libertarians claim to be the intellectual descendants of the Founders. The classical liberal approach to government is what is espoused at UD which is different from the modern liberal (ie. Democrat) approach to government. The thinking of the Founders is traced through one vein or another to Locke, Hobbes, Machiavelli, Thomas Aquinas, Aristotle, Plato, and Socrates.
The Founders thoughts are taken seriously because they are listened to in their own voicces and on their own terms. Modern political thinkers tend to give credit to the Founders for their establishment of our political liberty, freedom and so on, but these same thinkers also claim to know better the thoughts of our fore fathers than they did themselves. UD looks to the Founders and listens to them in their own voices (as much as is possible) without the historicism filters that most hgh school teachers and college professors use today.
The classes are tough and the professors know their subjects. If you look to understand the ideas and ideals that our nation was founded upon and wish to converse with the greatest mind of all time in a setting that supports these conversations, look to the University of Dallas' politics department.

If you are a member of Peta do NOT enter this restaurant (I'll tell you why in a second)!!
The building looks as if it were some back-country log cabin. It has a semi-homely feel, that is, until you taste the good food. When you walk in you are greeted in the Fourier by a 6 1/2 foot tall bear. It's dead, of course, but it still scares the crap out of you if you aren't expecting a 6 1/2 foot bear in a Mexican restaurant. Walk into the front of the restaurant which is also the bar area and you'll run into what can only be described as a PETA nightmare. All over the walls are stuffed animals, more precisely, stuffed animal heads mounted and staring. It adds to the atmosphere and is quite different from other local restaurants, so I don't mind the animal eyes following me everywhere I go. The inside looks just like the outside, namely, log cabinish and comfortable.
The menu is pretty much like every other menu. I have a theory that all Mexican food differs only in presentation. I mean, com on! Is a soft taco really that different than a fajita? No, you just get to put one together on your own. What about hard tacos and tostadas? Nope, no difference there either. So a better Mexican restaurant differs from a worse one only in presentation and ingredients. La Hacienda has some pretty darn good ingredients. Their fajitas are very tasty. If you add their salsa (a cooked and watery salsa, but a very good salsa at that) to the fajita you'll have a very nice meal indeed. The queso, whether it is for the chips and salsa or for the fajitas, is above average. However, if you order the chili con queso (Queso Mariano), the appetizer goes from above average to extraordinary. The tacos are good as are the enchiladas. Nothing too special there. There is an appetizer you may want to order if you are feeling hungry. I believe it's called the VIP Platter. This is a large dish with a sample of each of the other appetizers. You've got your stuffed jalepenos, your quesadillas, your nachos, and, most importantly, your fajita steak. What a beautiful dish. This may be the best dish at the restaurant, but it's also the most caloric as well. Down a couple of La Ha's very good margaritas and you wont care how many calories anything has.
The wait staff is usually pretty good about keeping tabs on the table. The glasses generally stay full of tea or coke and the chips are usually refilled as you down their excellent salsa.
The dishes are a tiny bit over priced. The only other negative aspect is the pain in the butt it is to find the restaurant if you've never been. Make sure if you are going to get very specific directions or you'll be driving arount the "La Hacienda" sign for hours before you ever figure out how to get there. It is off of I-35 just south of Lewisville in Carrollton. However, you have to exit early whether you are going north or south on 35.
With good food, a good atmosphere, and a good wait staff, one can hardly go wrong eating at La Hacienda Ranch.

So the rumor is that Angelina's and Cristina's are owner by two sisters by those same names. I'm not big on rumors, but there are plenty of similarities between the menus. Then again, most Mexican restaurants have similar items.
Cristina's is ok. The music is pumped up a bit. There is certainly a better dressed crowd at Cristina's. The decor is also better. Ah, but the food, the food never lies!
The salsa, for starters, is chunky and has quite a bit of onions in it. Onions tend to overpower anything they touch or look at, kind of like Medusa. There are plenty of sweet tomatoes and chives and cilantro, but the onion's volume is just a bit higher than the rest of the crowded salsa bowl. Too many onions for my soft tongue. The chips are good and crispy and usually hot. I'd rather have this salsa than Pace, for example, but I've had better.
The fajitas are above average. They're tasty with a nice amount of onions and green peppers on the skillet. The tortillas are not homemade, not a good sign. The rice and beans are pretty tasty. The sour cream and guacamole are ok. Mix them all together and you get an above average experience when it comes to food.
The waiters here usually take a bit longer than I would like when it comes to refills. Two visits in a row I had the same waiter that seemed like he completely forgot my wife and I. We left with sad stomachs.
I suspect that people frequent this place because it is near the Vista Ridge Mall, the food is ok for what you pay, and especially because the decor and the music make it seem better than it is. It's what my friends and I disparagingly call "trendy." If you're near the mall and Angelina's is too far away to drive, go ahead and stop by Cristina's. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
