I've visited the Space Needle on numerous occassions since everyone who visits wants to go. It's pricey but on a clear day, the observation deck really does offer million dollar views. The bar is overpriced, but this is to be expected. Similarly, the restaurant is mediocre- the stunning view compenstates for this.

SAAM is great museum and well worth a visit. If you visit SAM, downtown, you can visit SAAM for free with your SAM stub within the same week. Also the museum is free the first Thursday and Saturday of the month.
It's a small museum but well laid out. Not sure how much fun younger kids would have here, but you could always keep the trip short and have a picnic lunch outside.
Great place to bring visitors who enjoy museums.

The Alexis Hotel is a great boutique luxury hotel located in downtown Seattle. This is where I stayed the night I got married. The staff was more than helpful. When booking the room, when I told them I was getting married I got upgraded to a suite for free. The place was almost bigger than our apartment! Also, my bridesmaids surprised me and decorated our room before we arrived. The biggest bummer was that at midnight (1am? 2am?)we were STARVING and we couldn't find any place to deliver, not even Domino's pizza! So we had to bust into the overpriced food basket. Great ambiance and highly recommended!

This bookstore is excellent, not only if you are a student at the U, but if you love books in general. Their selection is rather expansive and the bookstore sells way more than just books and UW apparel. They also sell gifts, toys, clinique makeup (!), and the like. The best part is the free gift wrapping and shipping! For this reason, it's a great place to do your Christmas shopping!

Like many Seattle-ites, I gave birth at Swedish though I live closer to another hospital. I took the parenting classes offered through the hospital and was quite pleased. The facilities are top notch and will they advertise their food and chef as superb...I don't know about that, but you aren't very picky after going through labor! I know many moms who've had frustrating experiences such as having to wait because there is no delivery room available. I guess I was fortunate in that regards- I first went to triage then straight to labor and delivery. Many of the nurses were very helpful, and overall I am very satisfied with my birthing experience at Swedish. They also have a moms line that you can call which has fairly expansive hours. I took advantage of this service in the early days and found the nurses to be very supportive.

This shop has very cute items, both maternity and newborn stuff. Some very cute gift ideas but the clothing selection isn't very diverse and the prices are high, so it's fine if you're looking for unique boutique, mainly causal clothing. But if you need functional, work clothing or outfits you want to wear more than once you probably want to shop elsewhere. With that said, it's fun to browse through the aisles, especially if you're preggo :)

When I was searching for full-time childcare for my infant, I debated using a center versus a family daycare home. There are obviously pros and cons to both. A friend recommended this daycare that she herself uses for her 2 kids. This provider has been licensed for over 10 years, has 2 school age kids of her own. Her "assistant" is her husband, so they are licensed for 12 children, full-time but they are not at full enrollment. My son is the youngest child there, at ten months old. They are allowed to have 2 infants full-time. The communication has been good, which is important for all daycare, but especially infant care and they have been accommodating to my work schedule which can fluctuate (part of the year I need to drop off earlier than they traditionally open). The prices are competitive for the area.

For the most part, all of my experiences with University VW have been positive. They have a shuttle to take you somewhere while you wait for a repair. If you buy your car there they have free loaners which is a bummer for me, since I didn't buy my car here but I would have if I had known about the free car loaner vs the dealership where I did buy my car. As far as dealership service repair shops go, I feel they have been decent in price and great at explaining car problems and solutions in lay terms. I've tried other VW repair shops and have been most satisfied with this one.

Woed by their catchy name and excellent prices, I recently had a manicure/pedicure here for under $30, or so. I came with my girlfriend and she had her newborn in tow and they were very accommodating, which was nice. One nail technician even held the baby most of our visit! The furnishing is great and very comfortable. They also offer waxing, and I was happy with the brow job. The big bummer was that for the first time EVER all of my nail polish had peeled off within *2* days! I called and true to their policy they were willing to redo the mani for free but being a busy holiday weekend, they weren't able to fit me in. I will give them another shot but will only go for the pedi this time. Another cool thing is they give you the filing products they use for your mani/pedi.

I stumbled upon this Aveda concept salon the summer I was getting married. I had my brows and underarms (!) waxed, as well as my hair and make-up done here. For my first visit, it was a consultation for my up-do. I was very impressed with the stylist after having a not-so great experience elsewhere. The stylist listened to what I envisioned and worked with me to create a look I was happy with. On the day of my wedding she came in early and even helped take pictures of the final product. I was very satisfied with the quality of service and would highly recommend this salon.
