My wife and I wandered into Sabor A Cafe somewhat accidentally, thinking it was a Mexican restaurant and thinking we were in store for burritos. Instead, we found a unique Colombian restaurant with very tasty dishes, friendly service and BYOB with no corking fee. The Pechuga Al Carbon is one of our favorites. It's simply a grilled chicken breast served with white rice, but the rice has a distinct and wonderful flavor and the wood-fired grill imparts the chicken with a wonderful char flavor. We always ask for a bowl of the complimentary salsa to have with our rice. Friday nights are especially nice because they have live band performing traditional and popular Colombian and Latin music. The place appears to be largely frequented by Colombians and Ecuadorians who come for the good food. Sunday afternoons are popular as entire families turn out for Sunday dinner.

My wife and I eat at at Colombian restaurant called Sabor A Cafe (on Peterson Ave. just west of Western Ave. in Chicago) all the time. i.e. 2-3 times/month. Yesterday we decided to try another Colombian place for the sake of comparison. Wow, what a difference! For an appetizer, we ordered an Empanada Cubana, an Empanada Columbiana, and Chorizo con Arepa. Everything was good, but the Empanada Cubana was simply spectacular. It was like the meat was encased in mashed potatoes. Crispy on the outside and mashed potatoee on the inside. (sometime I want to go there and just order three or four!) The appetizer filled us up, so we decided to share the Pollo a la Parrilla (grilled chicken). Thank god! It was an enormous serving and very tasty (although, I must say not as good as the similar dish at Sabor A Cafe, "Pechuga Al Carbon," which has a better grilled flavor; probably because they have a wood fired grill. On the other hand, the plantano frito that accompanied the chicken here was really, really good). We also ordered a side dish of rice, which we mixed with the requested pico de gallo and home made hot sauce). For desert we shared cocunut flan. The entire bill was $24 + change. Parking was a quarter. Service was excellent. I asked the waiter for a bucket of ice to keep our white wine cold and it was at the table in two minutes flat. Atmosphere is . . . how shall I say . . . authentic feeling? Not fancy. The hot sauce is delivered in a plastic throw-away container, yet they have cotton table cloths. It reminded me of being at a neighborhood restaurant in Buenos Aries. Overall: Recommended. (I'm goin' back for those Empanadas Colombiana!)

My wife and I have been driving from Evanston to El Famous for years. They have THE best burritos. We always share and I always ask for a side of jalepenos. The chicken in the burritos, which appears to be slow roasted, is out of this world. The corn tortilla tacos and the breakfasts are wonderful. The place is low budget, which gives it a certain ambiance. There are tons of other Mexican restaurants in the immediate neighborhood, and we tried a couple, but we keep coming back to El Famous.

Fresh, reasonable and very tasty sushi and sashimi. Call ahead for pick-up orders because everything is prepared to order so it can sometimes take 20 minutes; a rather long wait. My favorite is the Godzilla which is ten pieces made with shrimp tempura. And they deliver!
