The Autism Resource Network is more than just a bookstore. If you have someone in your life who has been touched by Autism, you have to check this store out. There are all kinds of educational resources, including books, videos, flash cards, and games. They have a wide variety of visual resources, including PECS, Boardmaker, and many scheduling tools. They also are a great resource for workshops and support services in the area. The staff is very knowledgeable and they are fantastic at helping you find the tools you need and making recommendations. They also have tons of stuff on their website and I highly recommend you give it a look as well.

Apple Valley Jewelers is a locally owned and operated store. It's a full service shop with a wide variety of pieces for both men and women. They are very helpful in creating custom jewelry, remounting, and jewelry repair and do the work on-site, so you don't have to worry about your jewelry being shipped to who-knows-where. And their selection of unique pieces is much greater than you will find at a chain store.

This is a really fantastic restaurant, whether you like German food or not. There are plenty of traditional German items on the menu, including a daily special, and all are terrific. There are also some items, such as a roasted chicken and fries, for those not looking for German fare. They've got a great bar and a good selection of German wines and beers. The desserts are fantastic if you leave room for them. The service has always been very accommodating, but on a busy night things can get pretty slow. In my experience they have always made up for it in hospitality. On a weekend expect to wait to be seated.

Furniture Manor is a family owned business, located just north of the Twin Cities. They carry all the major name brands at very reasonable prices. They offer design services and are even willing to come to your home. The nice thing about Furniture Manor is their salespeople. They are really helpful and are able to help you put together the ideal room you have in mind. You can even bring in photos of things you like and they'll help you find them. The service really separates them from the larger chain stores.

If you are a foodie, at Cooks, you'll think you're in heaven. Cooks is the absolute best. First, they start with very knowledgeable staff to help you with everything from figuring out a recipe to finding the best sauté pan on the planet. They offer classes from the top chefs in the area on a wide variety of topics. There's even quite a few classes to appeal to men, so this isn't just a shop for the women in the kitchen. They carry a store full of top quality kitchen items, with brands like Les Creuset, AllClad, and Wusthof. They even offer seasonal crop shares of the finest meats, vegetables, and fruits. This store has it all.

Suddenly Slender is one of those places that promises to make you loose inches without having to work for it. They sell their herbal wrap service and it's their special solution of minerals that magically makes the inches disappear. They wrap your body in ACE bandages that are soaking in what looks like water. You stay in the bandages for an hour while working out on something similar to a step machine. Of course, they promise better results with repeated sessions. At over $100 a session, you are better off buying a gym membership and doing things the old fashioned way.

You don't even have to be interested in trains to be fascinated at this museum. The huge and intricate layout of model trains is amazing to behold. Familiar local scenes have been recreated in the layout, including the Mississippi River area from both St. Paul and Minneapolis. They have special shows like the Night Trains show, when the trains run as if at night time (awesome!) and a Christmas Train show. On certain days of the month, they run Thomas the Tank trains, for those Thomas fans out there. And there are plenty of volunteers around to fill you in on the trains and answer your questions. The kids will love it!

Wally's is a nice local restaurant that specialized in roast beef sandwiches. The sandwiches have much more of a "homemade" feel, unlike Arby's, and are a good value. They do have other menu items, but if you don't want a roast beef sandwich, this might not be the best place to go. It's always very busy at lunch time, usually with a line outside the door. I recommend getting the food to go.

While getting into the store is a bit intimidating (you need to ring a buzzer from the foyer and someone will unlock the doors for you) once inside the selection and quality of jewelry is amazing. The sales people are very helpful and not pushy and most importantly extremely knowledgeable. The store has many one of a kind items, antique items, as well as beautiful classic items. They also carry Rolex and other well know watch names. A great place if you are serious about jewelry.

Open Arms is a terrific daycare/preschool for your little ones. It's a small center affiliated with Holy Emmanuel Lutheran Church. The teachers are all very caring and provide great activities for the kids. There is a good mix of active play and educational time, as well as chapel time at Holy Emmanuel. Open Arms definitely has a community feel and your children will feel well cared for here.
