Moving to Galveston can be a chore, and finding the right house/condo/apartment is best left to the professionals. That's where Zapp Realty comes in . Mr. Tromm did a great job putting together a wide range of properties in a given price range, coordinating visits and making suggestions with regards to safety, etc. I would highly recommend this firm and Mr. Tromm himself.
Bottom Line: Easy to get lost in the wrong part of town, do yourself a favor and get and agent.

There are quite a few churches in the area, with a strongly Catholic theme. If you're searching for something else, such as Presbyterian Church, you can try this one out. It's in an older building, and the congregation is a little older. All in all, pretty traditional. The fellowship is nice and the sermons are strong. As with any church, you need to give it a try on your own to find out if it fits your needs.

Everyone with an animal needs a Vet, especially in Galveston with the high mosquito population. This Vet Clinic is better than most. After a recent remodel, there is now more space to sit and wait with your pet, talk to the friendly staff, watch Animal Planet or watch the fish. The vets are still the same friendly vets from before. Service is great, prices are reasonable.
Bottom Line: You need to take care of your pets, might as well let the Galveston Vet Clinic do it.

In this day and age of 24h Kinkos and using office printers for daily tasks, it's nice to know there are still mom-and-pop printing shops up to the task of making copies, printing big jobs and putting together projects. Speedy's Printing is great for your project, whatever it may be. I was in there to make copies of a report that was being presented, and they were able to take my uploaded powerpoint and get everything together within 48 hours. They can do it even fast if you need (will cost extra). Prices are reasonable and the ease of use and customer support is great.
Bottom Line: If you want it done right, give them a call for a quote. Great local business.

Alright, the studio is in Humble but he will come to you, whereever you happen to be. My wife and I utilized Eric for our engagement photo shoot and our wedding photos. In a word, sublime. The end product was absolutely amazing, and you can click the website link to view some of his work. He has an idea of what he wants to do, but is perfectly willing to work with what you want, so don't hesitate to ask or point him in a different direction. All in all, a great experience. We're ecstatic about the end product.

Again, this is for the locals. As with many homes in Galveston, the wiring in my house was old and the box was a fire hazard. Attempting to get an estimate was impossible, as most 'big name' contractors were feeding some lines about having to do commercial jobs first. Not Big D. He came right out, gave me a great quote (cheaper than the other 3 I got by >$200) and did the work in under 2 hours. Not only that, but he went ahead and fed a new line to a circuit so that the bathroom was on a GCI plug. Great work, highly recommended.
Bottom Line: Honest, hardworking electrician that will give you what you need without adding more.

My size makes it difficult to tailor suits properly. I know this because after paying >$100 for a suit to be taylored in Houston, it still looked like crap. Fortunately for me, What A Seam was able to not only reverse the damage, but make it fit perfectly. How much? Less than $20!!! That's right. I was so impressed I had no problem letting this same shop tailor the tuxedo for my wedding. Of course, it came out perfectly as well (and in less than a week). There is truly no better seamstress in Galveston or the surrounding Houston Metropolitan area.
Bottom Line: if you need alterations, you'd be crazy to go anywhere else.

Alright, this review is more for locals than tourists, since most visitors are not likely to purchase a nice 5 gallon rosebush for that trip back home. For the locals, this is the first place to visit for plants. They have a great selection of plants, herbs, trees and veggies. In fact, their helpful staff will let you know exactly what can be grown, how hard it is to grow, and what you need to do to ensure success. The prices are a little higher than you'll pay at WalMart or Home Depot, but you can see an immediate difference in the quality. I'm stilling working on killing some herbs that I bought almost 6 months ago, but have not yet been successful.
Bottom Line: For high quality plants to beautify your landscape, come here first.

Also, there are quite a few cats hanging around, some friendly and some not. Great prices and helpful staff round out this local favorite.
Bottom Line: if you need what they're selling, it's a great place to go. Also a good place to spend some before getting on a cruise ship.

Galveston doesn't have any professional sports, unless you head north about 55 miles. So what's left for the sports fan? How about some high school sports. Ball High can be fun during football and basketball season. There are some heated rivalries (i.e. La Marque) that offer a good show for a cheap price ($1-2). If you don't mind sitting with some rowdy high schoolers, go for it, it's a lot of fun.
Bottom Line: There's nothing quite like watching hungry high school football players giving it all they've got to win a rivalry.
