This location has a wonderful array of fun frames to choose some- high end names like Prada and Gucci are easy to find. But watch that price tag!! Items are easily several hundred dollars over what you will find them at local chains or even the up-scale shops downtown. Word to the wise- if you see a frame you like there get the name of it and shop around to compare prices.

Peterson's is a charming little pharmacy located on Lake Street in Oak Park. It is such a shock to be recognized and treated well, instead of herded like cattle. This is no big-chain, trust me. Privately owned and operated for many years, you can see some of the history of the location in the front windows of the shop. They even deliver...which is an amazing bonus for someone housebound or disabled. They of course don't have the selection of the hours of the big chains, but for your everyday prescriptions they are fabulous!

This office has the great relaxing atmosphere you might expect from a "Wellness Group"- soothing music, eastern decorations, incense and all. However in my handful of visits to the office I was only given auricular (ear) acupuncture- which was a little disappointing to me considering the cost (almost $100 a session). Also, I didn't feel like the exam was as complete as the ones I have received in the past from acupuncturists. The Dr is soft-spoken and knowledgeable but seems a bit disinterested at times. If you are going to have acupuncture done this is an OK place for it if you don't want to travel outside the area.

I only have experience with Dr. Marian Sassetti at this office, but that is certainly enough to earn my praises. Dr. Sassetti is one of the best doctors I have ever had. She is intelligent, compassionate and very pro-active. Don't get me wrong- she is certainly not perfect, but in thsi day and age a doctor who cares as much as she does and actually listens and makes intelligent common-sense decisions can be a rarity. If you have been disappointed with dismissive or slack treatment by doctors she is certainly worth a try. My only complaint is that some of the individuals working the front an seem flaky at best and flippant or rude at worst. Don't take it personally and don't take it as a sign of the treatment you will get from the doctors.

As far as I know I have always gotten honest service from Elite...but really, what do I know?? I'm no mechanic. Twice they have told us our Neon does NOT need break work even though it is a squeaky thing. Guess what, we didn't need break work. We totally could have been taken advantage of! Bonus points for them. They have performed minor electrical work, basic maintenance and exhaust work for us and we have always walked away happy. And the front desk is knowledgeable, friendly and oh so prompt!

The name of this store tells you nothing about what it sells- mostly kitschy, fun uber-trendy trinkets and household items like bowls made from newspaper by women in some third-world country and "ugly" dolls. It's worth a visit to this Oak Park locale just to see the amazing interior design of the store- note the art tiles on the front counter and the fabulous floral painting on the East wall. Some of the items are pricey (i.e. the adorable diaper bags which surely only Oak Park and downtown elite can afford to carry wipes and Desitin in). Despite the pricey items there is something for everyone- fun candles shaped like sushi for 3 bucks, cards funny and artful enough to frame for 2.50, amazing wrapping paper and a variety of uniquely scented candles. get on their mailing list and they will let you know about fun events like their recent Cinco De Mayo/Anniversary party and an upcoming signing by a popular card artist.

A less-frequented locale than the famous Field Museum or Chicago Art Museum, the Peggy Notebart museum is no less of a Chicago treasure. My very favorite exhibit is their exquisite butterfly house- an amazing indoor greenhouse filled with beautiful butterflies. Call ahead to find out if the butterflies are active at a particular time of day, you won't be disappointed as they land right on you and swirl around you! Rotating exhibits such as Grossology and Animal Grossology are some past-time favorites.
The museum is well-priced and easy to do in an afternoon. It includes fun interactives for kids and interesting facts for adults. It is inconviently located in Lincoln Park, which is way over-crowded on a summer weekend. Parking is difficult on weekends, but not impossible.

This school has a large clinic and offers FREE acupuncture as a service to the community and as training hours for students. Treatments are performed by 2nd and 3rd year acupuncture students and are supervised closely by licensed acupuncturists who are mostly professors at the college. A typical treatment might include acupuncture, Tui Na (oriental massage), treatment with magnetic therapy, cupping or moxa (a therapeutic process done by burning mugwort over a specific energy point). The treatment is top notch most of the time- and very focused on wellness and balance. Herbal treatments (in the form of raw herbs or pills) are frequently recommended- although there is a small cost for the herbs. EVERYTHING else is free- totally free. No catch. The only problem is that often the clinic is crowded and there is no making appointments, first come first serve. So be prepared to wait by bringing a book or some work. Avoid Mondays like the plague if you don't want to wait for hours. Wednesday is the best time as their are typically more students then patients. If you have any interest in Oriental Medicine or holistic treatments but can't afford them- this is the place to go.
