Nick's is just OK as far as I am concerned. There are certainly quite a few better Pizza's you can get in this area. I haven't tried anything but the pizza, but the sauce was weird and very sweet, and nothing else was impressive about it to make up for the nasty sauce. The only thing NIck's seems to have going for it is that they are open later then many local places with delivery.

I love Erik's- they have wonderful sandwiches and they compliment them with homemade fries or chips. I mean really, where else can you get fresh chips these days? They also have a variety of salads and dinner selections and desserts. The atmosphere is friendly and they have a big window right off the street for the people watchers out there.

It is a great place to meet friends or just hang out and read a book. they have an interesting gift shop in the back, and wonderful coffee, tea and dessert. If you are on the north side at all you might want to add this to your list of places to check out. Those window seats go fast, but they are amazing for people watching.

What on earth could possibly be out of the ordinary in a bizarre place such as Las Vegas? Well there certainly isn't much, but I think visiting a museum just might qualify. The Atomic Testing Museum is a fascinating and rare look behind the scenes at the history of Atomic testing and the Atomic bomb. Funded privately and most certainly by some government sponsorship the museum offers a thorough look at atomic testing, atomic culture and current atomic progress. Interesting artifacts are located everywhere and the highlight of the experience is the theater, where you get to experience a taste of what observing an atomic test might be like. This museum is certainly not for the Vegas party sorts, but is an off-the beaten path find for anyone interested in Atomic testing or even a baby-boomer feeling nostalgic for a trip down memory lane. The kids, unless they are braniacs, probably won't be impressed.

This is my favorite Las Vegas hotel to stay in. The atmosphere is fun, but it is off the strip- which I prefer. I love to visit the strip, but hate the prices and the crowds. The Orleans has everything you could want including a large poker room, a bowling ally and a movie theater. The service is warm and I've won more here then any other casino. Many locals visit this casino, which usually speaks volumes. The price is usually under $80 a room (off peak) and they feature many deals. Ask for a room with a view of the strip- it makes the visit that much more special.

Philander's is a long-standing Oak Park. The atmosphere is upscale and the entrées are a bit pricey. The restaurant is located in The Carlton Hotel, and often you will find great entertainment featured. The menu features steaks and seafood and a handful of amazing salads. Valet is also available for busy times, and I would recommend making reservations for a holiday of weekend.

Portillo's has recently become a Chicago staple, recently adding multiple locations including one right near the famed downtown McDonald's. This location is just as good as any of the originals. Portillo's features tasty hamburgers, fries, pasta and salads and of course, hot dogs. You can get a dog anyway you like but a true local will tell you the only way to eat one is mustard only. Don't let the crowded drive-thru here scare you off, it moves quickly and the yummy food is worth the wait.

Tasty Dog is affectionately known as "nasty dog" in my house. We say this with love, simply because the food here is not the healthiest, and we reserve it for an indulgent treat. The food is good and this establishment is a long-standing Oak Park staple (although it has been re-incarnated to class it up a bit). If you are looking for cheese fries, pizza puffs or something equally unhealthy you can visit the drive-thru, eat in or dine out at the tables outside.

I love the atmosphere at Mama Thai Restaurant, it's charming and fun...something you might only expect to see in the city. Even if you choose to have delivery for Mama Thai's you won't be disappointed. Even though the food selection is a bit limited everything I have had here has been excellent. If your hungry for Thai this is, in my opinion, the best place to get it in the area.

This restaurant has a deli as well as a dine in area and an outdoor cafe during the warmer months. The food is authentic and includes fresh pasta, sandwiches, salads and some amazing desserts. The prices are good ($7-10 per entrée) and the atmosphere is always pleasant. This restaurant also has delivery and catering available. Parking is most convenient in the lot off of North Blvd, and is free for the first 2 hours. Sometimes in the summer they event feature live music outdoors- which makes for a great evening date.
