This toy store is pretty new to Brookline’s Harvard Street, but boy is it great! It is filled with great toys for all ages and there is a lot to look at and choose from. It is similar in feel to Boing! In Jamaica Plain, with great toys that are not your everyday department store toys. They also specialize in baby gear, and have a knowledgeable staff who are willing to help you with your purchase.

Boston Pewter Company is a nice little gift shop in Fanueil Hall. They offer a wide array of gifts, not just pewter. Pewter is prevalent though! It makes sense, because Paul Revere worked with pewter. The shop also carries glassware, wooden boxes and gifts, and other fun things. Some are a bit touristy, but some are truly lovely, and would be a great gift. The staff I have met are very nice, and let you browse to your hearts content! I will be back for a visit, as there are some items that my dad would LOVE!

Besides Bukharra in Jamaica Plain, Bombay Club in Harvard Square is my favorite Indian restaurant ever. As soon as you walk in, you are struck by the serenity of the surroundings. It is decorated very sparely, with beautiful paper lanterns on the lights, and a calming feel to the dining room.
The staff is always pleasant and friendly. I left my purse there once, and they looked for it, found it and held it until I could get back to the shop. It was very kind of them.
The food is great. I have eaten Indian food in New York’s 6th Street, to London’s curry places, and the food at this place is the best! One of the best features is the fact that they have a chaat table. Chaat are Indian snacks, usually sold on the street. There are a ton of different ones here to choose from, spicy, salty, crunchy or sweet. Plus, they have bowls of spices, so you can mix your own flavoring.
The restaurant is very vegetarian/vegan friendly, and has something to offer for everyone. Their beer list is small but good. I highly recommend a trip to this restaurant. It is a great place to bring a date too!
They also have a small booth in Fanueil Hall, which is great for lunchtime if you’re in the neighborhood!

What a neat store. All the crafts are made from local and nationally based artisans, and they are all beautiful. There are a wide variety of crafts represented here, from pottery, to glassware, to jewelry. The store is small, and a bit crowded feeling, but the gifts are so beautiful. This is the perfect store to go to for a gift for your mom, or for anyone who appreciates beautiful craftsmanship. The staff is friendly, and I have found it far less crowded than many shops in the area, because it is kind of tucked away. It’s worth a visit!

I stopped in this little shop in Fanueil Hall recently to buy a card. I ended up staying and browsing for far longer than I’d planned! What a fun store. They have just about anything you could want or need for gifts, in all price ranges. Check out the Housewives Tarot set, it is hilarious! Many of the cards and gifts are really very funny in a tongue in cheek kind of way. I am definitely going back at Christmas time, for stocking stuffers. They have a huge selection of little gifts that would be great for stockings, or care packages, or goodie bags for birthday parties. The store is well lit, well laid out, and the staff are very sweet.

I wasn’t sure if I should review this as a restaurant or a club. I decided to review the restaurant part, because that’s where I spend most of my time.
The Middle East is a nice little place, a bit gritty perhaps, but it has been around forever! They always have great local art on the walls, and there is years of history tucked in the nooks and crannies by the bar. Their beer selection is fantastic and varied, and they have a full bar too.
The best part is the food! Their menu is Lebanese/Middle Eastern and is some of the best eating in Central Square. They are very, very vegan and vegetarian friendly, and offer a great selection for meet eaters too. My favorite dish is the pumpkin kibbeh, pumpkin bread with grains inside and a nice yogurt sauce. Also, do not miss their whipped garlic. Not a great date food, I’ll admit, but it is so good. If you are a garlic lover, be sure to check it out. It makes a great addition to any of their meals.
The staff is usually very pleasant; although there are some barkeeps I don’t care for. The servers are always great.
After dinner you can always head downstairs, or upstairs and check out some of their shows. There are always great bands playing at the Middle East.

Zoinks is a great little toy store, conveniently located in the Fanueil hall marketplace. It has a nice focus on quality, educational toys. My daughter simply loves this shop. While the prices can be a bit on the high side, the toys are just fantastic. They have a nice selection of games and books as well. In the summer the store sponsors a movie series for kids that is just great. Two floors of fun toys and friendly staff await your visit!

Harvard Bookstore is one of the best independent bookstores in Harvard Square. There are a few big rooms with a wide variety of books. You can find nearly anything here. There is a fantastic selection of books that are by smaller publishers that are somewhat harder to find in big chain stores.
The best part of this store is the really great book readings and book signings that they offer. They have some really fantastic authors visiting regularly. I saw the editors of Found Magazine talk there last year and it was great!
When the reading room gets too packed they set up cameras so the rest of the store patrons can watch the reading on the televisions throughout the store. It’s a great shop and has some of the friendliest staff ever.

Stamp of Approval is the only store specifically geared toward rubber stampers in Boston. It is very small, and has a rather limited selection, but is still worth a visit! While they do have a limited space, they sure pack as much in as they can!! You will find a good selection of basic products, and some great kits and magazines as well.
The staff is occasionally friendly, but often just pretty much ignore you. Since it is the only store to buy some of the products that they offer in the area, I will put up with that. I miss the friendliness of some of my favorite stores up in Maine however. The staff doesn’t always seem as knowledgeable as they could be, and half the time I visit, they are on the phone the whole time.
However, if you find yourself in Boston and craving a new rubber stamp or some inkpads this is a convenient place to visit. It is in Fanueil Hall, and is close to several different T stops.

…mainly because I work very nearby! But I love Jose McIntyre's. The beer selection is a bit basic, but fairly inexpensive. The menu is pretty good, and what other place serves burritos and Guinness? One wouldn't think it works, but it does. They are really nice about holding the cheese on things (I don’t eat cheese) and seem pretty willing to help vegetarians find something to eat!
The staff is pretty friendly, and the decor, while not fantastic, is pleasant. It is really nice to relax after work with a beer in front of the open windows in a big comfy chair. It’s a cozy, neighborhood-feeling bar, right near the waterfront. It’s just a nice place for a good beer and some dinner.
