My wife and I went into Bump today (9/16/07, around 3:30pm) to buy something for her sister. While we were struck by the small amount of inventory present on the floor, we were also impressed with the quality of the offering. However, what struck us most was the poor quality of service. There was what appeared to be an employee in the back of the store having an animated conversation with a friend. They glanced our way and then returned to their conversation. We were the only customers there. We walked around the store, going through the racks, talking about what we found there. No one spoke to us. Finally, I just stopped and stood in the center aisle and waited for someone to come acknowledge us. Then I moved to stand by the counter...the two at the back of the store continued their conversation. After 15 minutes - we finally gave up and left (which also did not even inspire a goodbye.)
So : really nice selection...but until they install one of those "self-serve checkouts" like they have at Target, we would recommend giving it a miss.

My need : simple. Three copies of my house key. My local Loewes : completely unable to get the job done. I wasted over an hour, making THREE return visits before I abandoned the project. Looked here on Judy's Book, found the listing for Broadway Locksmith...and got my keys made. Correctly.
They were friendly, knowledgeable and were able to explain to me what Loewes couldn't. Hardware Stores use a machine which automatically creates the key. If the machine gets out of alignment, then the operator can't do anything about it, except produce bad key after bad key.
As a final note : while I was in there, a very stressed-out girl came in, who was about 12 or so. She was completely stressed out, as she had locked herself out of her house...and her mom wouldn't be home for hours. "But I have the money to pay you in the house," she said. "I promise."
"No problem," the counterman said. "It'll take me a little while to get there, cause I'm the only one here right now."
She sighed in relief and sank down into a chair. "This has been such a day. I left my jacket on the bus and..." Her face darkened. "Um...is it okay if I use your phone? I guess I have to call and tell my mom."
And here I was, thinking I'd had a bad day....
