This place has been in the Central District for over 50 years. Now owned by
Mary Collins (her daughter works there in the summer), it is dark, old-fashioned, friendly, and delicious.
The sauce is not sweet, but is savory and Southern style. Love it!!!

I worked there for 4 months last year, and even though I was fired (attendance issues), I have no hesitation recommending them for day care and boarding.
The staff and management cares about the safety and well-being of the dogs, they have regular in services to learn more about how to be with the dogs, and they are religious about cleanliness.

I know many people have had a positive experience with them, but I am acquainted with several former employees (including a supervisor who was with the company from the very beginning), and they are jumping ship due to unsafe practices and the poor care the dogs receive.
The complaints I have heard were that there is not enough staff to safely monitor the dogs (one person to 50 or 60 dogs, which leaves no safety margin if there is a fight), and poor standards for cleanliness.
There are also severe problems between management and workers, but that doesn't matter to this review.
I was previously employed at The Barking Lounge (http://www.barkinglounge.com) and I recommend them wholeheartedly.

I am only familiar with the West Seattle store, but I go there for all my needs. The people remember me and my dog, and they have a strong knowledge of their products.
They also have cats for adoption there in the store, as well as occasional fundraising notices for animals in need.

When I first went in I wasn't terribly impressed. It seemed like just another of thousands of tiny thrift stores and I intended to just speed through and get on with my business.
Two hours later I was still talking with the woman who runs this store! Now I drop in just to say hello when I'm passing by walking the dog.
I'm only one of many people she has befriended here in West Seattle. She's great for networking, remembers what people do and what they *want* to do, and hooks them up with other like-minded folks.
Drop in and say hi!

I dropped in and met them. What a bunch of sweet people! I didn't, however, use them because I just didn't have the money to spare. (Thus the "perfect" score! *grin*)
I have heard good things from others, though, so I intend to go in some time this spring.
