Dennis Hanvey is THE man to call when you have a tree that needs to be removed. We had 9 trees that were either dead or leaning on our property that needed immediate removal. Mr. Hanvey came to our home to view the situation and told us which trees he could handle (we had three very large trees that were leaning upon each other and toward our house, which he declined to cut given that he did not have the necessary heavy equipment to take care of it - how often do you get an honest answer like that?). He provided us with a VERY reasonable estimate and even gave us an idea of how much we should expect to pay from our "disaster area" that required a different contractor.
He was courteous and efficient in bringing down 6 trees. He is very easy to deal with and handles not only our own tree cutting, but has also worked for many of our neighbors. I actually got his name from a neighbor who had used him for several trees in her yard.
The only downside: he smokes a bit. But he actually tries to smoke away from the home and picks up his used cigarettes so they aren't decorating the yard.
Definitely a good person to work with when you have trees that need to come down.

We bought a Nissan Altima from the Laurel Carmax in December 2003. We worked with a salesman who was courteous, low-pressure, helpful and definitely a foreigner. He helped me view the car I wanted, let me take it for a test drive, which involved moving a carseat back and forth between cars, and pushed the rules a little so I could have time to bring my husband by to see the car before buying.
The car we bought had a very annoying issue that we had a difficult time figuring out. It took three or four visits back to Carmax. By the end I was very frustrated, but the actual issue explains why it was so difficult to diagnose. A previous owner had lost the gas cap to the car and tried to replace it. In so doing, he damaged the opening just enough to set off the "Check Engine Soon" light.
At the beginning, when the light went off the first time, the manager of Carmax extended the initial warranty period so that we could still return the car for a full refund should the issue arise again and should we desire to do so.
All of the personnel I worked with Carmax, including the repairs person, Mr. Marley, were helpful and tried to resolve the issues as best they could for both our benefits. I would buy from them again.

When we purchased our Nissan Altima from Carmax in December 2004, it came with only one key. Carmax paid for the second key to be made, but we had to visit the Nissan dealership in order to have this done. We visited our nearest Nissan, Sheehy Nissan of Annapolis - don't make our same mistake!
I had two small children in tow and all I needed was for them to copy the key for my car. I also wanted a keyless remote, but that cost an arm and leg AND a kidney, so we decided just to get the key. Newer cars require that the keys be coded for them, an item that works as theft deterrent because the car will not start with someone else's key. The salesmen took our key and our car and had us wait in the lounge while they took car of making our copy. That took about half an hour. When they returned, we paid for our key and walked out to the car...but the new key would not start the car. In fact, they had not coded the key at all! We had to go right back inside and wait for them to do it right this time which took another 20 minutes.
That's almost an hour of sitting at a dealership with two small children bouncing around all for a key to be copied.
This place is not worth your time. Go elsewhere.

We've used the Exxon at Waugh Chapel a few times now for various minor repairs and have always had a good experience with them. We had to have a couple of items fixed on one of our cars before it would pass for Maryland inspection and the folks at Waugh Chapel's Exxon were great about getting it done and charging a reasonable fee. We have had at least one occasion where the vehicle needed rather immediate work and the mechanics were willing to have us just drop it off at their lot in the evening and they got back to us the next day. We had a rear light that appeared to have electrical issues that they were to have fixed so we could have our Maryland inspection approved. They took care of the light and didn't give us any hassle.
If you don't have a smaller mechanic shop to go to, this one will still give you a decent deal.

We visited the Kennedy Center for the Phantom of the Opera, held in the Kennedy Center's Opera House, and it was a magnificent and memorable experience.
The opera house is a beautiful structure with seating that allows you to feel a part of the show even from the nose-bleed seats. From the front row, you can actually see the tear-drops from the performers' faces during tragic scenes.
The Kennedy Center overlooks the beautiful Potomac River and has a large balcony that is often open for audience members to catch a breath of fresh air.
There are also free performances daily in their Millennium Theater. We caught one during the spring for the Cherry Blossom Festival with traditional Japanese drummers. One word of advice, arrive early! I had to stand on my tip-toes to see anything, but it was so good I couldn't make myself leave.

The Baltimore Aquarium is a beautiful and educational facility to visit. It's fun for all ages, with a wide assortment of aquatic animals to view and to learn about. They have an enormous tank of sharks, turtles and larger fish, as well as smaller tanks for the smaller fish. They have some of the most beautiful and colorful saltwater fish. There are also many displays for the domestic creatures of the Chesapeake Bay area.
During the winter (January, I think), there is a program where you can visit the aquarium for only $5! It's an amazing deal and well worth taking advantage of. Just check out their website or call the Baltimore Aquarium for details.

Belcroft Bible Church is one of the most comfortable Christian churches you'll ever visit. I've lived in many places and regularly attended over a dozen churches across the U.S., but this one really stands out. It has good leadership from its pastor who is also a professor at Washington Bible College, as well as from its Board of Elders who emphasize being a part of the workings and not just sitting in a pew every Sunday.
Church size is approx. 250 persons.
There are programs for everyone from newborn to senior. New moms often gather in the nursery on Sunday mornings where they exchange stories and support each other. There is a nursing screen and glider in the nursery, but it's rarely used because of the number of moms who just take over the nursery.
Children have programs like Awana and Vacation Bible School.
Adults are encouraged to join small groups that meet during the week as well as Sunday School that meets at various locations on Sunday mornings.
Everyone is made welcome, from suits and ties to cut-off jeans and tattoos. And most important of all, the family of believers worships together and focuses on how to become better followers of Jesus Christ as led by his teachings in the Bible.
Truly an awesome place to seek God.

We recently visited the Regal Bowie Cinema to see the latest Batman movie (Batman Begins) and had a very pleasant experience. Although we were running tight on time, the line moved relatively quickly with a three salespersons. There are many theaters/movies to choose from within the cinema building.
The theaters themselves have stadium seating which is wonderful! No more trying to look over the guy in front of you just to see the screen.
They also accept gift certificates, even the ones from Kellogg's cereal (which we used).
Altogether, a good place to see a movie.

We first used Crofton Pediatrics when we moved to town because it was one of the closest offices to our home and because it seemed to have many doctors to choose from. I was hoping we would find someone as intelligent and helpful as our previous pediatrician. It just never happened.
Both of my children were seen by doctors at Crofton Pediatrics. My son when he was 2, my daughter as a newborn. On every visit I had to fill out a STACK of papers, often with the same questions that I had filled out on the previous visit. It was tedious and difficult, given that at every visit I was trying to manage two children, one being a newborn.
The friendly atmosphere was never there. In fact, I often felt as though I was doing more work than they were. Concerns like my son having 3 bulls-eye marks on his legs (a possible sign of Lyme's disease), were brushed off without sufficient explanation or compassion.
The entire office works like a conveyor belt. Sign-in at the front desk. Move back to a "pod" (a group of 3 or 4 rooms specific to the doctor you're seeing). Move to the pharmacy (if needed). Move to the check-out desk to pay your bill. Move to the scheduling desk to make your next appointment.
This "efficient" model may work better for them as a business, but it's lousy for patients who are accustomed to better service and more friendliness.
I recommend finding another place.

We've used Family Practice of Crofton for about a year now and love the physicians we've visited. They are very professional and friendly, willing to answer questions and very compassionate. My children use three of their nurse practitioners for regular and sick check-ups and both my son and daughter truly enjoy visiting each NP. They are also sensitive to when children have a particularly difficult check-up (both of my children had shots/blood drawn in one visit and were both given stickers and frozen popsicles).
There's a nurse's phone extension for asking simple questions like how much Tylenol to give an infant, etc. And they're very prompt about calling back.
I have also used this office for my own ailments. Even before medication, I felt better just because the RNP I visited was compassionate and took my concerns seriously.
Even the front-desk staff is friendly and helpful, willing to work with each patient individually.
If you're looking for some good physicians, this is the place to be.
