Wildlife on Well Trod Ground

Thursday, June 22, 2006
We had the benefit of visiting the Hemlock Bluffs Wildlife Preserve the day after a flooding rain passed through. Even with all the water, the trails weren't muddy - they're covered with wood chips, solid stairs and boardwalks. Sections of the trails that had boardwalking were usually elevated above the ground 2 feet or so, allowing the children to get a better view of the area. We took the path that loops down toward the creek, there are many steps down and then a loop that meanders through the woods. There are also several overlook areas for catching a glimpse of the creek below. The trek took us about 30 minutes, but that's walking with small children who like to stop and look at specks of dirt. :) One bit of advice - wear bug repellent.
