The JCC of West Hempstead is a great place for families and singles to explore their spirituality. This conservative congregation has an active service Saturday mornings and various community organizations such as Men's Club, Sisterhood and United Synagogue Youth (USY) chapters. Members are very welcoming and you will find that it is very easy to get involved with the synagogue. Bar/Bat Mitzvah lessons are offered by the cantor, and day care service is available for preschool children.

Brandeis is a suburban school right off the commuter rail, which is small and very tight-knit. There are many majors to choose from, and departments in the sciences and economics are very popular amongst students. Brandeis' Judaic Studies department is the largest in New England, boasting a large library of material and research projects. Brandeis students have tons of student-run clubs to get involved in; many students participate in community service organizations or play intramural sports. Professors are easily accessible and caring. Classes are small (except for most intro classes) and teaching assistants are very helpful with difficult work.
Take a tour of Brandeis, the admissions office has a wonderful program in which prospective students can stay a night in a residence with current students--it's a great way to learn more about the school.

Palace haircutters is a family run place (Joe the owner is always around to greet patrons). Most stylists have been there for many years, and really know their customers. Palace has undergone many renovations and expansions and now the place really looks great. Palace is a place for a quick cut or a detailed style for any occasion. Palace also has manicurists, waxing and other services located in the basement. They also sell salon-quality products at decent prices.

The Ducks are a Long Island minor league baseball team that has a great fan following. The park is easy to get to and there is plenty of free parking. Tickets are inexpensive and seats are plentiful. The park is great for families--there are many events and promotions involving the fans. The Duck mascot visits every section of the park, stopping along the way for pictures. It is an enjoyable experience and if you are in the area, you should definitely stop by for a great game and good times. Box seats are also available which provide refreshments.

Vincent's, located right across the street from the Roosevelt Field, is a wonderful Italian/Seaford place. I recommend making reservations early...it tends to get very packed in there very quickly! They are known for their delicious sauces (which they sell separately) and hearty Italian dishes.
I ordered Chicken Parm and was not disappointed. Huge portions topped with a sweet red sauce (spicier options for those seeking a little more fire are available). Even their appetizers are large, although we could barely finish those after downing their warm homemade bread with oil that was served.
Prices are moderate to expensive, depending on what is ordered. Food is kid-friendly, however I would recommend Vincent's more for couples or large groups.

Millennium Car Wash is right in downtown Elmont; a convenient place for a wash. They do a wonderful job with interior cleaning, and brushless exterior washes. And for the price, you really can't beat it. Millennium often runs coupons in local papers offering $5 regular washes as well as discounts on complete washes and waxes. The employees are courteous and kind, joking with customers as they dry the cars. Don't pass Millennium by for a great deal and great service!

Splish Splash is Long Island's favorite waterpark, which has been featured several times on the Travel Channel's top 10 waterparks. It is far out on the island, but worth the trip. The park boasts many thrilling rides, as well as some relaxing ones (the lazy river is a blast). Admission is on the pricey side, as is the food, but you can find discounts at local chain restaurants.
Lockers are plentiful to lock up your stuff, and I'd recommend a plastic money holder to bring around the park. The park has shows everyday that are very entertaining. The family tube ride is the best, definitely a must-do!
Splish Splash is definitely a fun, all day activity. If there's time at the end of the day, check out across the street--the enormous Tanger Malls is just feet away!

The Pawtucket Red Sox stadium, home of the longest game in baseball, is a cute little stadium in Pawtucket. Although it is not in a wonderful area (right near a bunch of factories and other industrial warehouses) it makes for a great day for the whole family.
Tickets are cheap, $6 for general admission, although food gets a little pricey. Parking is free and plentiful. There are many promotions throughout the season (I won free tickets at my last game) and plenty of opportunities to get the fans involved. Not to mention that the Pawsox are a great team!

Dr. Reale is a pediatric dentist who is just wonderful with kids. His office is warm and inviting; there's a full size Sega video game system in the corner, as well as the "No Cavities Club" pictures of smiling faces. When you come in for a cleaning, you are handed a clipboard and can choose the flavor of flouride that you want (mint, chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, etc). This is a great way for kids to be involved in the experience, and not get scared. Dr. Reale's office is decorated with bright colors and toys hanging from the ceiling, not to mention pictures of his own little ones. He is a wonderful man, and definitely makes kids feel comfortable about their dentist and the experience as a whole.

I've been a frequent visitor at Romeo's since I was able to eat pizza. The two owners of Romeo's have been there forever, and their cousins and daughters also have worked there for a long time. It gives Romeo's a true "family" feel. Not to mention the food! They have so many different kinds of pizza and pasta dishes to choose from--and they are always adding new dishes to the menu. Although it is a small, casual place, it's a great place to kick back with a few slices and meet up with friends. They also do a wonderful job with catering events.
