The Boston Duck Tour is a great way to see Boston (both by car and boat!) and learn quite a bit doing so. It's a stress-free way to show friends and family the great city of Boston, all while having a ton of fun. All tour operators are incredibly knowledgable about the city and have a great sense of humor. Tourists are encouraged to quack at red lights! And of course, it is very cool to watch the duck boat convert from truck to boat and back again. If you get lucky, you may even get to drive the boat a bit!

Lizzy's ice cream is a Waltham favorite. It's so rich and creamy...even their low fat frozen yogurt is just sooo good (I highly recommend Coffee Oreo). They have over 35 flavors available, sorbets, no-sugar added, "adult" flavors (such as Bailey's and Rum Raisin) and tofutti. You can even have a sundae party there! Definitely check it out, it's a cute little store that is big on taste!

Capri Motor Inn is located along busy Hempstead Turnpike, right next to Blockbuster video. I have never seen such a shady place. Firstly, it is utterly filthy; it does not look like maids have touched the place in years. Also, many people park their cars outside and blast music, which is very irritating. Not many amenities at all in the inn. Linens are not exactly fresh, either. Pass on this place!

Adventureland is Long Island's favorite amusement park. Recommended for the younger set of kids, Adventureland features swings, a large ferris wheel, merry-go-round, pirate ship, haunted house (may be a little too scary for some) and many kiddie rides. Get the P.O.P. (pay one price) bracelet for admission, and ride the rides all day long without worrying about tickets. Food is available indoors (usual amusement park fair) at average prices. There is also a large indoor arcade with many prices. For a little relaxation, take the train ride around the park.
Let the big kids go off to Six Flags, but the little ones will absolutely love Adventureland!

Jones beach is great, safe place for swimming, or even just a walk on its 2 mile boardwalk. Restaurants are plentiful, where you'll find some great Long Island seafood. Fishing is also available nearby, and at nearby Captree. A wide variety of plant and bird life call Jones Beach home, especially in it's more undeveloped areas. Get there early and stake your claim in the sand. Also, check out the mini-golf course right alongside the boardwalk (very crowded on Saturday nights).

LICM has recently been completely redesigned. It's exhibits are almost all hands-on oriented, so kids will stay focused, and maybe even learn a thing or two! A big favorite would have to be the Bubbles exhibit, explaining how bubbles are formed, and featuring huge wands for dipping bubbles. Changes and Challenges is also an eye-opening experiences, which allows able-bodied kids to see how challenged people must adapt their abilities to functio in everyday life.
Lots of interesting exhibits that will keep the kids busy for many hours.

Long Island has always been on the edge of aviation history. The Cradle of Aviation Museum, located right near Roosevelt Field (the former airstrip), helps explain a lot of Long Island's involvement in the field of aviation.
For native Long Islanders, it is almost surreal to see old film reels of Roosevelt Field without the beloved mall, but a giant airstrip. The museum takes us from LI's involvement in supplying planes for WWI and II, as well as the world of aviation today.
Definitely take a peek inside, the artifacts alone are really a great sight.

Atlantis Marine World is relatively new to the Island, located right off the Peconic, offering a wide variety of sea life to look at, touch, and even feed! You can't miss Atlantis...look for the huge whale statue right outside! Sea lion shows take place daily, and for a really special adventure, you can actually swim with [small] sharks in a lagoon (additional fee). Check out the touch tanks, where aquarium staff are always on hand to guide and teach about the sealife. Don't miss the interactive salt marsh exhibit and get your feet wet. At the end of the day, there's a great gift shop and a small arcade.

Old Bethpage village is a remarkable recreation of Long Island's past. With many old shops and homes from the 1800's, you really feel as though you've been shot back in time. The employees there are spot on in their characters, offering very insightful information about the times. Definitely try the root beer, mmm! Great demonstrations such as basket weaving and horseshoe making. Lots of fun for everyone!

Strike is a relatively new development on Long Island, luring people in with bright lights and promise of a family fun indoor park. What I found is a cheesy, albeit colorful bowling alley, a bar, and a couple of go karts. Huge LCD screens were all over the bowling alley (how does one concentrate on getting a strike while cartoons are on??), and bowling was waaay too expensive. You're basically paying for their obscene electric bill. Not impressive at all. Jillian's has much more to do and does not need to be as flashy.
Strike did not bowl a strike with me...barely a spare!
