really wanted to like this restaurant, but sadly I just do not like French food. Petit Robert Bistro is on Columbus Street in what used to be Rouge. The restaurant is smallish with two rooms, one with a bar and 6 tables and a main dining room.
First, the wine was excellent, a nice bottle of Merlot. The bread, as you would expect, was very good(as it would be my primary sustenance for the evening)...The smoked salmon ap was good as well
The main course, which was salmon legs, was disappointing through no fault of their own. French food requires tons of butter and cream, which is not my preferred cuisine to say the least.
To be fair, everyone else seemed to be really enjoying their meals. Then again, they were all Francophiles.
And I did not see Freedom Fries anywhere!!!

Its really hard to believe that I have never been here before. Jacob Wirth is an authentic pub style restaurant on the outskirts of Chinatown. It is a pretty large place and has the look and feel of an English style saloon...Not that I have ever been to England or would ever eat the food if I ever do go
The menu is basic fare with a surprising amount of German cuisine..And they have a ton of beers. Unfortunately, this was a business lunch, so I did not partake
What was surprising was the level of service. The waitress can not be more accommodating. My friend orders clam chowder and does not finish half of it. He does not eat potatoes(he is from Jersey). She offers to take it off the check. The food was served promptly and was decent. as well as affordable for that part of town or for any part of town these days.
It is definitely worth a look.

In earlier reviews, 5 stars were only handed to establishments that were both excellent and community oriented. I am unsure of Hammersleys outside commitments, but I ate a simply fantastic meal Sunday night.
Gordon Hammersley has one of the longest tenures on the Boston restaurant scene. I believe that he started at Jason's in the 70s, going independent in the South End before it was fashionable.
Fulfilling my vow to not watch the Super Bowl, I reserved a table for 2 at 7. Super Bowl is a great time to walk in a restaurant, because it is not busy....My waiter, Larry, seemed happy to be finally waiting on somebody. We started with the cod and olive tapenade pizza on crispy flatbread, which was really interesting.
The signature dish at this place is chicken, which is somewhat an anomaly. When was the last chicken was the signature dish anywhere? Except maybe KFC...But it is really excellent, and I had the haddock after scoffing half my friends entree, which was also incredibly tasty.
The bread pudding is maybe the best I have ever tasted. The secret, Larry informed me, is brioche, instead of bread...It is nicely balanced with raisins in a caramel sauce
Service excellent, wine excellent, food fantastic......That just about covers it....

If you are like me, nothing can brighten your day like going to the dentist. The sound of the drill is like Mozart in my ear....Not
I did not go to the dentist for 10 years. However, a little tooth pain can reverse 10 years of inertia. Dr. Murphy is a nice guy really. He xrayed my teeth, and basically told me I needed a root canal.
This is the reason I do not go to the dentist, I replied. We both understood, however, that pain would interfere with my ignorance.
He said that he would try to save the tooth and readied his drill...but first he applied novacane. Part of my issue with dentist is a deep sided dislike for my childhood dentist, who believed that pain was an essential part of growing up. He used novacane sparingly in order to heighten the fear effect from his patient. Think Steve Martin in Little Shop Of Horrors...but only with a benign but vapid sophistication
But I digress, Dr. Murphy uses lots of novacane and saved the tooth, a happy short and long term ending
Recap: Tooth saved, fear of Dentists abated only with the liberal use of drugs
Now for the other couple of teeth that need work

At the risk of being a contrarian, I had a good experience with Comcast. My cable was down, and they schedule a repairman to fix it between 11-1 and actually called me 15 minutes before they showed at 11:08. They sent a signal through the box and fixed aconnection and were out of my place in 20 minutes
In other words, they kept their promise...a rarity in this day and age. Last night, I saw Goodfellas for the 8th time....Great movie

Tremont street could be the toughest neighborhood in the city for a restaurant without game. You have 28 degrees, Masa, Tremont647, Sibling Rivalry, Hammerslys' Bistro, Butcher Shop and The Acme Oyster House plus two streets in either direction adds another dozen decent places to eat.
Happily, Addis has game. It is a dimly lit interior with ( I am guessing) authentic Ethiopian tables and chairs. We had Samusas for an ap, which is like Indian Samosas. We ordered a chicken and a vegetarian dish for the main course. Ethiopian food as it turns out is somewhat like Chinese Moo shi, meaning you roll it in bread and eat it sans silverware( must save them a fortune in water and related costs)...But it was very different and very tasty
The only bummer is that you have to hunt for parking and you may need to stretch out a bit afterward. But for a new food experience, I would(and have) recommend it

More money has been lost in airlines than probably any other industry. They have cycled through bankruptcy and bail out almost once a decade. More people like tycoons and former astronauts have tried and failed in this industry. The one exception was a lawyer who wrote a business plan on a cocktail napkin. His name was Herb Kelleher, and his airline is Southwest.
Jetblues CEO was bought out by Southwest, and he learned the Southwest way: Run one type of plane, have an employee centered culture and turn the planes fast. It is the only way an airline can actually make money.
Jetblue has added a few wrinkles to its peer. Personal TVs keep people entertained and also lighten the load for the attendants. They then can focus on cleaning the aircraft(thereby turning it around even faster). The snacks are real as well. But these guys mean business: On time arrivals and baggage handlers that know how to handle bags.
I am not ready to anoint them with 5 stars yet as they are new, but they are as good as any airline flying today.
Of course, that is not saying much

Once again, I am a little torn about this review....As I write this, I am fully aware that my neighborhood will be overrun by outsiders near and far. I am lucky though. I am in the epicenter of all things culinary, Amsterdam, Jaes, Le Petit Bistro, New York Pizza, Wally's, House of Siam are a quick stagger from my home.
I am not writing about the restaurant here, but the small bar on the side. It serves the same food as its namesake...Spinach salad and goat cheese and the enchiladas are my favs, but it is a cool place to have a beer and chill.
They show these wacky 60s and 70s movies without volume. Every time I am there, I wonder why the heck am I watching these? Cold beer will make a man do strange things, I guess.

Meritage is in The Boston Harbor Hotel and probably deserves five stars. The Executive Chef, Daniel Bruce, once explained that Meritage started as a by product of the Wine festival.
It is a very attractive restaurant with contemporary lighting and SubZero wine refrigerators at the entrance. It also looks out on the courtyard of the hotel and the Boston Harbor.
The menu is also very interesting with many unusual foods in a menu that reads like a wine menu(hard to describe). All the foods can be served as an appetizer at $16 or a dinner at $30. Our waiter recommended 2 aps and 1 dinner. Doing the math in my barbaric brain, I discovered that it is a bunch of dough to eat here. BUT, parking normally $14 elsewhere was complimentary so think of it as trading parking for salad.
The salad(parking) was excellent. A cucumber wrap seem to hold a deceptively large bunch of greens. The scallop appetizer was also very good, but the Ostrich was absolutely delicious.
On top of the food, I had the best Zinfindel and the service was top notch
