Patty grew up in Shawnee and graduated from Shawnee High School in 1977. She graduated from OU with a degree in Fashion Merchandising and Marketing. After completing Masters in Marketing Education, she taught and was the DECA advisor at Gordon Cooper Technology Center for several years. Later she served as Assistant Executive Director of the Oklahoma Vocational Association and was an advocate for vocational educators. She and her husband Bruce Carlton, P.A. have a son and a daughter.
