Shopping at Trader Joe's isn't like shopping at your local supermarket. They have some really wonderful private brand items - things that will really liven up your dinner menus! Their prices are very good because they're able to buy or produce in bulk. They have a great selection of frozen foods - from appetizers and main courses to the most delicious desserts. (Be sure to try their chocolate covered frozen bananas.) They frequently offer sampling events so you can taste before you buy. You may not do all of your grocery shopping here but it's a great place to buy some unique items.

They have so many delicious bagels at David's Bagels. Of course they have all of the usual varieties you'd expect but they also have some others that I've never noticed before. They also have a really unique item - basically it's like a combination of a bagel and a donut. Crumb topped bagels. At first I wasn't sure if this would be a good idea, but I tried one and I'm convinced, this really is a good thing. These taste best when they're slightly warm - not completely toasted but just a bit heated. No need to add any spread, but cream cheese does taste really good with them!

You know it's Spring when King Kone is open for business. During the Christmas season there's a tree lot in the space but come March, they're back open for business. They have the most delicious milkshakes you could ever want. So creamy but not so thick that you need to drink them with a straw. Their ice cream cones are really tasty and they have lots of great toppings to choose from. This is a fun spot to come on a Summer evening. They have outdoor benches and the place is always busy.

The Pearl River Hilton is a very stately looking place. It looks like a building you would see in France, not necessarily in Rockland County. It's a very nice hotel - the room rates are a bit high but the rooms are very nice and the staff very helpful. I've had out of town relatives stay here several times and they were always very pleased. They have a lovely restaurant in the hotel as well as a great bar in the lobby. Their banquet rooms are great - hold a lot of people and the staff that helps run events is great.

There seems to be an endless number of stores at The Garden State Plaza Mall. I still don't think I've seen them all. They have quite a few high end clothing stores but they also have some great shops where you can get some good buys. The mall itself is very nice - it's enjoyable just walking throughout the mall - especially during the holidays. There are plenty of spots to sit and rest for a bit and of course plenty of food places to drop in for a snack or a meal. The parking lot can be a bit of a challenge on Saturdays as it seems everyone in the area comes here!

They have some beautiful accent and decorative items that can fit into just about any decor. Some of their lamps are stunning as well as their rugs. In addition to great prices, they also have some great markdowns so you can really find some bargains here. It's a great spot to pick up a housewarming gift - you can really impress for less here.

Zitomer's is so much more than a pharmacy. They have a wide variety of products - all sorts of wonderfully smelling lotions and potions, great gift items, tasty candy and more. Of course you can get your prescription filled here, and you'll have plenty to do while you wait. The store is located near the Carlyle hotel on 76th and Madison. It's surprisingly not as snooty as you would expect a store in this neighborhood to be. The staff are great - very helpful and friendly.

This is a nice spot to have lunch on Madison Avenue. It's not going to be a cheap lunch but not quite as costly as some of the other choices in the neighborhood. The food is good diner food and the servings are generous. They have some really delicious desserts - including some spectacular cakes. The staff is friendly but during the rush hours they can get quite harried. During the cold weather, be sure to try their hot chocolate as it is really delicious.

When I was a kid, one of my favorite places in the world was FAO Schwartz. Not that we were rich, but it was such a fun place to visit. You could spend an afternoon amazing at all the beautiful dolls, cute stuffed animals, great games and then if I was lucky, convince my Mom to buy a toy for the ride home. The store has moved since I was younger, they're accross the street now. It's really a showplace now. The prices are outrageous and the place is always packed. It's really more of a tourist attraction now than a place to shop.

I don't think the clothing is of the highest quality, but for these prices you can try out some fun new trends for cheap and see how you like them. I wouldn't buy any major pieces of clothing here, but that's really not what they specialize in. You can get some fun t-shirts, a cute new skirt, some shorts and even a few accessories and still have money leftover to go for dinner! The store can get pretty crowded and looking for someone to help you is really a fruitless task. But for the bargain hunters in NYC, this is an oasis.
