U Haul on K St, NE to be avoided at all costs

Without a doubt, the most stressful days are moving days - and this U Haul location does nothing to make them easier. From losing reservations to not answering their phones to renting trucks with bad transmissions to closing an hour early because they cannot staff their desks and the manager simply does not care enough to cover the shift himself, the place fits the definition of a mover's worst nightmare.
If you must use U Haul, please book in advance and don't use the website. Pick a location (anyone in the area OTHER than this one...I've had a semi-good experience at 1750 Bladensburg Rd: 202-529-4676) and call them yourself instead of booking through the internet. They give lower rates over the phone and you will have a better chance of getting the equipment you want instead of having some U Haul flunky farm it out to whichever location he feels like and then also charge you a $5 service fee.
Should you experience a nightmare like I did, if you report the specific location to the local Better Business Bureau, the national headquarters to the Arizona Better Business Bureau, and be sure to let the regional customer service office know you're doing this, it IS possible to get the entire cost of your move reimbursed and to get gift certificates for future moves as well.
I know what a pain in the butt they can be, and no one else should have to deal with them. So good luck.
