Wing Hoe is affordable, has a great atmosphere and a convenient Edgewater location. Their fifties-style dining room makes it a great place to dine in, but you can pick it up if you prefer dining at home. They do deliver, but the area is pretty limited and it takes a long time. If dining with a group, order one of their "dinner for two" or "dinner for four". The selections are great and they save you a bit of cash. Hands down, best Crab Rangoons in the city.

Need to get your hands on that new graphic novel or indy zine? Quimby's is your place. Located in Wicker Park, steps from the Blue Line EL, this Chicago landmark is the spot to find books, zines, comics, anything that is not mainstream. It has a fun, laid back atmosphere, which speaks to the somewhat chaotic shelving system. If you go, plan to be searching for a while. Their selection can be overwhelming.

If you're tired of dealing with Borders and the other book store chains, check out The Book Cellar. They have a great selection of bestsellers, mainstream books, and many book published by small presses that are not available in the retail chains. There is a café where you can have coffee and peruse magazines and they sell notebooks and journals if you get inspired to write yourself. Just steps from the Brown Line EL.

Walking into Corner Grille is like walking into a seventies diner. The bright orange booths and lime green vases set this restaurant apart from the other diners. The food is affordable, tastes great, and comes quickly. Service is a hit or miss. Although the wait-staff is very friendly, they can sometimes be absentminded. It's pretty empty during the week, but on the weekends it gets packed. Whether it's for a quick bite alone or with a group of friends, Corner Grille is a great place to eat.
