The other day, we went to another dim sum restaurant in Philly's Chinatown in search of the best in town. Thus far, I've tried Ocean Harbor, Joy Tsin Lau, H.K. Golden Phoenix and Ocean City (next to Sang Kee). I have to say that Ocean City is the best amongst these restaurants. I was surprised that there wasn't a line there, but I guess at 10:45 on a Sunday, it really just opened. The selection of items was really good and the food was very tasty. Everything was hot and fresh tasting unlike a few of the above mentioned restaurants. (Another dim sum place that I would recommend is H.K. Golden Phoenix.) One other great thing about this restaurant is that it has great neighbors. After dim sum, our friend went next door to Sang Kee to get some BBQ Pork for dinner, and then we went to the bakery next door to get some BBQ buns, Coconut Buns and Pineapple Buns for breakfast the next day. It's great when you can do one stop shop.

I'm always searching for Asian cuisines in Philly. In case you don't know a dol-sot bibimbap is a Korean rice dish served in a hot stone bowl. I found a pretty decent dol sot bibimbap at Miran. I've been there twice now and their side dishes or banchan has been hit or miss. My first time there the kimchi that wasn't very tasty and the veggies were old, and the second time I went it was pretty good. However, I've been disappointed with the kimchi turnip both times. The service is prompt and the Korean BBQ looks appealing each time I go (although I haven't had the opportunity to try it because they require a minimum of 2 orders.) The kimchi pancake is a bit soggy the time I had it, but their stews have been consistently tasty. I'll be back considering there's a very limited selection of Korean food here in Philly.

On cold windy days, I crave for a nice hot bowl of wonton noodles. I'm quite picky about my wontons considering I'm use to the wontons that I get on the west coast or in Canada. We went to Sang Kee's a few days ago and were told that the wait would likely be 10-20 minutes. To our surprise, we were seated in 3 minutes, and since we already knew what we wanted to eat our order came in like 5 minutes. I ordered a Duck and Wonton Noodle Soup and my partner ordered a Beef Brisket Noodle Soup. Both our soups were quite tasty, the beef brisket soup had a great beef flavor and mine had a nice light broth. The duck had great flavor, and the wontons were seasoned nicely. My only complaint would be that the noodles weren't chewy enough, but I guess that would be a complaint that I should make with noodle factory they use. We wanted to catch a movie, so we were done with our meal in about 30-minutes. This is a great affordable place to eat if you’re in a hurry, and if you have a large party it looked like there was a great selection for dinner items as well. I'm looking forward to trying the other things on menu.

This is my second visit at Dmitris (the 22nd & Pine location). I've been wanting to go to Melograno, but the wait is always so long! This location is a larger space with a bar so don't bring your own. The nice thing though is there is space between your table and your neighbors, which is often not the case in the smaller more quaint restaurants of Philly. We went with some friends and decided to order the Mediterranean Platter to share as a starter. It came with a generous serving of grilled pita bread, hummus, tzatziki, an eggplant spread, beets and some other Greek spread. This is a great starter with friends because the pita bread is hot and the spread is just so delicious to dip into. One of our friends ordered a Greek salad which was refreshing and a very simple salad that can be served at home with cucumbers, onions, olives, feta cheese and tomatoes. For our entrées, we had their spicy shrimp platter, the breaded flounder and the fried calamari. The portions were generous and food was rightly seasoned. However the seafood just lacked the freshness that you would get on the west coast. I would go back with friends again because of the comfortable atmosphere, and the food is pretty good compared to other restaurants that I've been to in the city.

Where to go to grab a cup of coffee before taking a weekend stroll onto Walnut St. or sitting on a bench in Rittenhouse Square to read a book. I would highly suggest taking a quick diversion onto 19th St. and grabbing a cup of coffee from a cafe that is serious about coffee. There are no muffins or scones at La Colombe, but some chairs, a few tables and people standing in line for simple order of a café au lait, cappuccino or an Americano. The coffee here is so aromatic, and the coffee art truly shows how much of a real coffee house this place is. If you want to study or work on a paper, I would suggest going early and getting one of the tables near the window to be away from the people standing in line. The place can get a little noise.

For those that crave a little more refined Dim Sum and don't want to go all the way to NYC. H.K. Golden Phoenix does a decent job of providing a good offering of dim sum that doesn't taste too fatty or starchy. The restaurant is spacious and very similar to standard Chinese restaurant that prefer the common rectangular layout convenient for banquets. The wait on weekends can be a bit long, but it's worth the wait. Additionally, always try to go to Dim Sum with at least a party of four because you'll get a nice sampling of the dishes.

If you're looking for a warm, friendly and yummy place to eat look no further than Chef Liao's. This warm family run restaurant just makes you want to go back again and again. Well, there's also the delicious freshly made potstickers that are even better than the dumplings that I've had in China. Other exceptional treats are the Garlic Noodles, the Yummy Yammy Fish, Orange Beef and a must order of Honey Walnut Prawns. The walnuts that are paired in this dish are nice and flaky unlike the honey walnuts that can be bought at the store, which tend to be hard. The menu offers a great variety of dishes that fit all of your dinner party's different taste. In addition to dining in, the restaurant also offers a take-out or delivery option and all are equally pleasing experiences. It's just as fast (if not faster) than ordering a pizza.

If you're one that cares about ambiance and decor, please stop reading. However, if you're one that can enjoy tasty hole in the wall finds, then you're in the right place. (Truthfully, it's not that bad, I would say the restaurant looks much cleaner than others I've seen in Chinatown.) The menu is very simple here, it's just noodles. If you want a side of veggies the waitress/owner will have to go to a near-by store to buy some fresh veggies to cook for you. The texture of the noodles here are definitely one of the best that I've had with the consistently of the noodle being nice and chewy but not hard. The soup base on the other hand can be improved because I've had some Beef Noodles Soups where you can tell the abundance of beef bones and beef that were used to make the stock. However, overall I would say on a cold day the beef brisket noodles paired with some chili sauce make the perfect cure in fighting the chilly weather.

Sabrina's is a great place to have Sunday brunch, and apparently everyone else in Philly thinks the same because the line is insane on Sundays. I would highly recommending having brunch early like before 10:30 AM. The portions are very generous here, and they do have some offerings that are heart healthy such as a Egg White Turkey Bacon Frittata. I highly recommend sharing for those that don't want to be in a food coma after brunch. A definite must try for those that like to have a comfortable casual Sunday Brunch.

First time, I've had Afghani food in Philly. The restaurant is considered to be spacious in this city, but the decor was a little too ethnic for my taste. The food wasn't bad. We started with an appetizer of Sambosa Goushti, which are deep-fried pastries stuffed with ground beef, chick peas and spices, served with a vinaigrette sauce. Then I had a Kabuli-Palaw, which is seasoned chunks of chicken under a heap of spiced brown rice, topped with carrot strips, raisins, almonds and pistachios. My husband had a Badenjan-chalaw, which is pieces of lamb and eggplant cooked in a rich sauce of tomatoes, onions and spices, served with white rice. I thought his lamb was a little gamey and reminded me much of an Indian dish that I've had before. I liked my rice dish only the chicken was little dry, but I would say it was nicely seasoned. I would likely return to this place just because I get so tired of eating Italian in this city.
