I know there are a lot of people out there who would avoid Denny's like the plague, but you simply can't beat their breakfasts. The food is very good (I like all of the different "Slam" breakfast combos), the prices can't be beat, and they don't mind if you take your time eating even when it's busy.
If you know anything about Denny's, then you know that it's a late-night hangout for teens, so if you don't like that kind of crowd, then I suggest coming only during regular business hours.

The Sports Authority is one of the better sporting goods chains, and I prefer it to the "other" big chain in town. The atmosphere is nice, the floorspace is wide open and filled with merchandise, and the lighting is great. Shopping here is fun!
The prices are on par with other places, so I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to shop here or anything. But it's definitely not a place I avoid.

Turtle Wax is the only car wash that I will take my car to. They do everything by hand and do everything out in the open so you can see exactly what's going on with your car. They have a wide variety of services, from a basic wash to a full wax, detailing, and a bunch of other things. If you want to protect your car's paint job, Turtle Wax is the place for you!

I have a strained muscle in my neck/shoulder area from an old sports injury. It bothered me a lot until I went to this clinic. The massage therapist did a superb job, and I left there with no pain in my shoulder for the first time in years. They accepted my insurance policy, so the 30-minute session didn't cost me a dime. If you need a chiropractor, check this place out!

Oak Park has a very good youth baseball program. That's why their high school teams consistently do very well in the state tournaments (OPRF High School Girls' Softball team are '05 State Champs). You can find a baseball or softball team to fit your child's age group and skill level. They have standard Little League rules in place, so your child is guaranteed a certain amount of playing time in each game. I played in the softball leagues for more than 10 years. I had a lot of fun and learned important lessons about teamwork and competition.

I have seen some good shows at the Village Players Theater over the years. I like the fact that ticket prices are reasonable ($27 for Opening Night; $20 for subsequent shows) and that the theater is relatively small and cozy. They are very active with community events, and often put on benefit shows for local charities or other nonprofits. That's very important in my book. So if you are in the 'burbs and want to catch a play or musical, check out the Village Players Theater.

The Circle Theater presents a decent alternative to having to drive all the way into the city to catch a live theater performance. They have produced well-known plays, such as Fiddler on the Roof, Hair, and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, as well as some lesser-known works. I have been very pleased with all the shows I've seen at the Circle Theater. They are definitely professionals!

Indian Lakes bills itself as a "resort", but I wouldn't go that far. There's hardly anything resort-like about it, except maybe the golf courses. The rooms in the hotel are clean, but the place is getting a bit old, so I can't really say that it's anything fancy. They have a restaurant that I have never eaten at. The prices in the restaurant are pretty high, and there are just so many other choices within a 10-minute drive that it's not worth it. There is a neat little bar in the main hotel area, as well as a dance/nightclub. I don't know how lively those places get on weekends, but on the weekdays there's not really much happening. I would recommend staying someplace else.

Creative Mirror Designs has everything from standard vanity and full-lenght mirrors to very contemporary, artsy pieces. I love shopping here, although it is a bit pricey for my tastes, so I don't buy too often. If you are in the middle of decorating your home, I recommend that you check this store out. It's a lot better than shopping at a department store, plus you can be relatively certain that you friends and family members won't have the same pieces in their homes (which you can't say if you shop at Ikea or something like that!).

This is a very small, but well-known bookstore in this area. They have an eclectic selection of philosophy and theology books that you might find interesting if you like these subjects. They definitely do not carry bestsellers, so don't expect to find John Grisham or Harry Potter in here! They have an annual Open House that attracts a lot of visitors, so that might be a good time to go. Oh, and they also ask for donations, so be ready with an answer whether it is yes or no!
