I haven't tried Sporty's catering service, but I have gone there for lunch on several occasions. They have pretty good cheeseburgers and fries. They also have a lunch buffet for less than $10, but I was pretty disappointed in the selection. You can choose foods like spaghetti, salad, thin crust pizza, and things like that. It wasn't very much at all. In addition, if it happens to be a slow day at Sporty's, the buffet food isn't as fresh or tasty as it could be.

Tommy's Red Hots is a tiny place with barely any room to sit inside during lunch hour because it's packed with workers from local businesses. And there's a good reason that it's always packed: it has very good food. For a couple of bucks, you can get two hot dogs and an order of fries. Add a drink, and you've got a very cheap (but delicious) lunch. The food is fresh and good, and the line moves very quickly. What more could you want from a hot dog joint?

If you're in the mood for a couple of slices of pizza, some pretty good fries, or some Italian-style sandwiches, then I suggest trying Garibaldi's. This is a family-friendly, casual restaurant/fast food place that is suitable for lunch or a quick dinner. The food is good, the service is fast, and the whole thing is affordable. My family of three can all eat our fill for less than $15 or $20. It's a better alternative than ordering a pizza because we can each eat what we want without having to worry about sharing.

If it's been a while since you've been to the Hollywood Casino, I suggest you give it another try. They've done some remodeling, and now the gaming floor is not so cramped and crowded. It's still smaller than the Grand Victoria in Elgin, but at least you have a chance to get some playing time on weekends, unlike at the GV, which is usually too full to bother with.
The Hollywood Casino offers table games such as blackjack, craps, and roulette, as well as a variety of slot machines. In addition, they've gotten in on the poker craze that has swept the nation and now offer three-card poker as well.
Overall, I still don't gamble here as much as I do at Grand Victoria, but at least I don't actively avoid it anymore.

The Home Depot is the biggest home improvement store in the area, and as such, you can get anything you need for any of your projects right here. One thing that I really like about Home Depot is how they offer courses and workshops to help customers learn how to do different things around the house. For example, in the past there was a workshop on how to install light fixtures and another one on how to put up wallpaper. Things like this make Home Depot better than other home improvement stores and keep me coming back again and again.

Everybody loves popcorn, right? Well, Madly Pop'n is a great little shop to go to in order to satisfy your snacking fix. They have popcorn available in all different kinds of flavors, and you can buy a small individual serving or a large family-sized tin. Speaking of tins, this store has a lot to choose from. Some of the most popular seem to be the sports-related ones. The Cubs, Bears, and Bulls logo tins are very cool and are perfect for giving as gifts.

The Field Museum is not the best of Chicago's museums, but it is still an interesting place to go once in a while, especially if you want to see the T-Rex. These days, I usually only go there when there's a special traveling exhibit in town. For example, there's going to be a King Tut exhibit from May 2006 to January 2007, and I will definitely be there for it.
Although this is certainly a family museum that everyone can enjoy, I would recommend taking very young children to the museum of science and industry instead, as they have more interactive displays to keep the young ones entertained.

Billy Goat's Tavern is definitely a Chicago institution, but I've only eaten there a handful of times. Each time, I was pretty satisfied with the burgers, but honestly, they aren't anything to get excited about. They're large, thin, greasy patties served on a kaiser roll and you have to put the toppings on by yourself. I definitely wouldn't go out of my way or drive all the way in from the suburbs just to eat here. But if I'm in the area, I don't mind stopping in.

The Wiener's Circle is off the beaten track as far as Chicago eateries go, but all the locals know about it. It's basically just a tiny little hot dog/burger stand on Clark St with a very limited menu. That's ok, because all you need to order from there is the char cheddar burger with a side order of cheddar fries. They glop on the cheese, which is very thick, very processed, and very delicious. This is a great place to go on Friday or Saturday nights after you've been out on the town, and you're just as likely to see people in tuxedos and evening gowns (fresh from the opera) as you are to see people in jeans and t-shirts.

Friday's is one of my favorite restaurants in this area. It is a very laid-back place and I always have so much fun whenever I go there. The menu is terrific and the prices are great. I recommend trying the Jack Daniel's steak or the chicken fingers platter (with honey mustard sauce). Their appetizers are excellent too, so Friday's is a wonderful place to go for a couple of beers and a plate of potato skins after work.
