The Eastern Market Seafood Company is located nearby Hirt and Co and the Cost Plus Wine store in Eastern Market. If you're looking for a great deal on fish, I would go across the freeway to the Gratiot Central Market and get fish over there. If you're looking for a large variety and/or more unusual stuff (like octopus, etc) this is the place to go.
Also, on Saturday's they fry stuff for you to eat immediately. I always walk by and smell the delicious food on my way between the sheds and Gratiot Central Market.

I would recommend if you've already been to the museum to go down there on Thursday evenings in the fall and check out the Detroit Film Theatre. They usually have an eclectic collection of excellent foreign films at $7.50. The place is mostly empty sans a few stragglers, CCS students, and film geeks. The theatre itself is 1920s era gorgeous.

This is probably my least favorite bar in all of metro Detroit. The bartenders are always grumpy and the bands are usually some form of emo. Every time I've been there (about three or four times) the upstairs is full of a bunch of 18-21 year olds checking out the emo band on stage and frankly and I've had a pretty boring time.
Parking is a pain in the ass and the place is surrounded by bums on a Friday and Saturday night. You can park on a nearby street for free, behind the theatre for $4 or across the street at the National City for $5, I think.
Frankly, if you're looking for a fun place to party and drink (and not see an emo band) keep moving down woodward to Foxtown or Greektown.

I would advise, if you're looking for some great carry out in Mexicantown hit up the Mexican Village Restaurant. I would recommend the beef enchilada dinner with an order of chips and mild salsa. This will keep you fed for at least a day and a half and is very yummy. Parking in back in plentiful and easy, the food comes quickly, and the staff is nice.

As someone who works within walking distance, I must say that Masons is the absolute best place to have a beer and burger at lunchtime. The food is served quickly and the draft beer comes in actual mason jars. The decor pays homage to local businesses and the patrons are mostly people that work along the semi-industrial stretch of I-96 through Livonia.
The only downside to Masons is the utter darkness inside the bar (there aren't any windows). When you leave into the outer world you are temporarily blinded for about 30 seconds while your eyes adjust to the change in light.

Lafayette Coney Island is the place to be at about 2:15AM after all the bars have closed and their patrons have the munchies. The waiters are rude, the coneys are cooked in about 30 seconds, they serve canned beer (before midnight), and the decor is the same that is was in the late 1970s.
However, this is best place to eat late in all of Metro Detroit. The coneys and chili flies slide down your beer coated throat at 2am and it is wonderful. If you come to Detroit and don't go to Lafayette, then you've truly missed out on an American institution.
Next door is American Coney Island. It looks cleaner and nicer. Don't go there, Lafayette is the place to be.

The "circa" as we call it, is a down home old-school neighborhood bar. The drink prices aren't that great, the TVs are from the 1970s, and the food is modest. However, the bar is regularly full of good people who live nearby and just want to down a pitcher and watch the Tigers. If you're looking for a sports bar or a party place, this isn't your bar. If you live nearby and want to make some new friends this is.
