Blockbuster is a joke

Thursday, November 23, 2006
I was in Grosse Pointe on Thanksgiving, visiting my family and figured I would head over to the local Blockbuster and pick up a copy of "The Wire" season 1. Once inside, the employee informed me that they were only shipped disk 3 of season 1 and they do not have disks 1 or 2. Well, then it's completely pointless to rent just disk 3. I spent about a half an hour looking around and eventually found some stuff I wanted to rent. I went to the front desk to pay and told them I have an account, but at another store. I handed the employee my license and told her what store my account is at. She had to CALL INFORMATION to get to the other store. Once connected, they had no record of my account. Fine. I said I would open an account. I handed her my National City Debit/Credit card and my license and asked to open an account. I was then told that I could not open an account with my debit card, since Blockbuster accepts debit cards for payments but not for accounts (??). Baffled, since I cut up all of my credit cards, I didn't know what to do. She told me I could show my voter registration to get an account. (??) Since I don't carry my voter registration around with me, I left empty handed. No wonder Blockbuster is getting killed by online competition, like Netflix - their customer service is comedic, at best. There are very few businesses that I hold ill-will towards - Blockbuster is now one. If you're in Grosse Pointe, go about a west on Kercheval and go to the Movie Store, in the Park.
