What more can you say? I love Monsoon, and I have to disagree with another JB member on the "authentic" part of the restaurant -- I don't think Monsoon is necessarily going for "authentic" as much as they are going for pan-Asian food done well. Every time I have gone to Monsoon I have been very pleased with what I've had -- the chow mein is wonderful, the drunken chicken is delicious, the ribs are messy and finger-licking-good (even though they give you a hot towel to wipe off with) and everything else I've tried has been delicious and fulfilling. It will make a dent in your wallet -- but it's a nicer restaurant and well worth the extra money.
To put it simply: you know a restaurant is good when you start to have cravings for their food specifically. I definitely have "Monsoon" cravings.
I'd give Monsoon a try if you haven't already -- I will definitely be returning.

Licorous is a great new bar next door to Lark and I am in love with the atmosphere. The wood trim and funky lights that adorn the place add to the swanky-but-not-stuck-up feeling of the bar and seating area. The cocktails I tried were wonderfully prepared, and I loved getting Lark-quality food in even smaller portions for a little less change.
Nothing specific stands out on the menu -- I wanted to try everything (and almost did)!
I think this is a great new spot to grab a bite late with friends -- well done, Lark!

The hygenist is amazing, as well, and will get your teeth cleaner than you've ever had them before.
I have never had problems asking them about cosmetic dentistry or other issues I might be having.
I would give them a call!
Her office number is: (206) 784-4800.

I am crazy about Elliot Bay Pizza's subs -- skip the pizza, which is usually mediocre (Pete's down the street is much better) but definitely try the subs. I have to join the other Judy's Bookers and rave about the hot Turkey sub -- yum! My favorite pastime while on Queen Anne has been to grab one of their toasty Turkey subs and eat it at Kerry Park while dangling my feet over the ledge and looking out over the city. I have also enjoyed their rosemary chicken sub -- but the Turkey is by far my favorite, and has never been a miss in my book.

I have been to Cremant on several occasions -- in fact, it is a favorite date-night spot for my boyfriend and I, so long as our wallets allow.
The food is rich, but that is half the charm of such a wonderfully authentic French spot. I have become entranced by the French onion soup, which, although it might seem to be a simple thing to be raving over, is simply the best onion soup in the city, hands down.
The other menu item I am stuck on is the steakfrites, which is so satisfyingly gluttonous.
I love having a "French 75" cocktail, as well, or a glass of nice bubbly Cremant (their namesake -- I just learned that the other day!)
The chocolate cognac which another member alluded to is really rich and wonderfully fabulous for dessert, as is the creme brule.
If you haven't dropped into Cremant, you should definitely try it out! It is worth the money for a special occasion.

I went to Seven after my boyfriend got a recommendation from someone about the place -- I was very excited about getting a professional haircut after a long time -- I have been cutting my own hair for several years.
I walked in and was immediately shocked by the loud music, and bustle of the place -- I had heard that they have a DJ on site who mixes music while you are getting your hair cut, and thought that might be nice, but it was nothing but loud. I could tell it was a "see-and-be-seen" atmosphere, and everyone there was in high heels and skimpy outfits -- I wouldn't have minded all of that had there been more to the experience... I didn't exactly feel taken care of -- the high standards of customer service I expected were a little lacking, especially from the girls at the Front Desk. I work as a receptionist and administrative assistant, so perhaps I am especially critical of people who do my job in other businesses, but I thought they were cold and unwelcoming. If anything, I felt more like a sheep being herded along through the process than a well-taken care of customer.
My stylist was nice, but seemed preoccupied the entire time she was cutting my hair -- perhaps it was the hoity-toity women and men who kept rushing by, or the loud music, or the fact that she seemed more concerned about a fashion show she was styling for than actually paying attention to me.
The cut looked nice at first, but then she proceeded to blow-dry my nicely curly hair straight into this bouffant style instead of styling it to look natural. Seeing as Seven's whole schpeil includes cutting and coloring to compliment your skin tone and the shape of your face, I was stunned that she decided to style my hair so unnaturally. I could have spoken up, but I decided to let her do what she thought was best, since she was the professional.
After watching a few other people as they got their hair cut and colored, I noticed that the "blow-dry straight and pooffy" hairstyle seems to be Seven's bent. If you like that kind of hair style, you might like Seven -- if you can get past the assembly-line feel of the whole set-up.
Sure, they give you a latte or mocha (which is mediocre at best) and they have music and lights, but I personally felt more like I was on a techno-styled conveyor belt than being given any kind of customer service.
It was only when I handed the coupon I had been given by the owner of Seven Salons, Roger, that the girl behind the Front Desk gave me any kind of personable response -- and then it was, "OOOHHH, did you like your cut? Was everything ok?" -- I want good customer service without having to be a celebrity, a rich chic who has perfectly manicured nails or some other kind of fabulous person they deem worthy of good service -- which is no offense to those who fall into the above categories, I was just expecting something more amazing than I received.
Give me a break -- I'm sorry Seven, but I'm not coming back. The experience is definitely not worth the cost in my opinion. -- I know there are quite a few good reviews on here for Seven, and I sincerely hope that everyone continues to have such good experiences, but maybe I'm not the only one who feels the way I do?

If you are truly an adventurous couple, try Ethiopian food. Although there are quite a few scattered around the Central District/First Hill areas, the one I recommend the most is Meskel. I go and am always treated fabulously, and the place seems to be the most authentic -- they have a bar downstairs that always seems to be filled with local Ethiopians. The food is all really good -- try everything, but make sure to get some injeera (sp?) and homemade cheese! :)

I have to make an amendment to this review -- El Portal is no longer around, so I can no longer suggest going there. I think the restaurant suffered from a weak location and not enough foot traffic, making them go under fairly quickly. Such a shame!
While not a conventional "small plates" restaurant, El Portal can easily qualify for this description. When I went with my boyfriend we shared everything we ordered and it was all absolutely delicious -- the guacamole is made at your table, and everything else we ordered was fabulous, too. I would suggest going here with a group of friends and ordering margaritas -- you will leave slightly drunk and with very happy stomaches. The bartender is great, the staff is exceptionally friendly, and, as I said, the food is very good (which is a rarity here in Seattle -- good Mexican food.)

I know this is a little outdated, but I thought I'd respond anyway, for future reference.
I have begun parking near Uwajimaya and walking down to Safeco field -- it's a little bit of a walk, but I enjoy stretching my legs before and after the game, and the parking is usually a lot easier to find.
On a different note: I would also recommend stopping into Shanghai Gardens for dinner before or after the game -- the most delicious Chinese food in the city, I think. My boyfriend and I are regular customers of the restuarant -- we even have a regular order.
My favorites on the menu include their hand-shaven barley green noodles (I prefer the beef or chicken chow mein), the moo-shoo pork (I don't think I'm spelling that right), their beef with broccoli, the pea vines (a must try if you've never had them), and the mushroom soup, although everything is great.
I especially like the fact that, if you stop by the restuarant late in the day, the kitchen and wait staff sit and enjoy dinner that they prepared in the kitchen together -- if the staff eats the food, too, it has to be good!
