The Red Lion is not your typical trendy Lincoln Park bar and that's the great thing about it. The first level is tight quarters and has a sloping floor and few tables. Sidle up to the bar and chat with the bartender and you will most certainly learn something you didn't know before. Colin is one of the owners and oftentimes behind the well stocked bar. The Lion has been around for quite a long time and has some Chicago history behind it. I can't recall all of the things, but I believe that one of the things is that the Shakespeare Theatre started there.
English fare is on the menu as well as chicken sandwiches and burgers. It is filling and tasty and a good price.

Rogers & Hollands offers a good selection of jewelry and helpful employees. My fiance bought my engagement ring there (which I love). Since then I have been to the store to have the ring sized, cleaned and inspected (on different occasions). At each instance, I had great customer service. We also have a certificate of $50 to put towards the purchase of our wedding bands. The location is a little tricky for me since it's downtown but it's a nice excuse to get down there every so often.

John Barleycorn has three locations in Chicago. All three double as restaurants with full menus during the day and bars with djs and dancing at night. The space is large and full of televisions playing sporting events. They also carry the traditional bar fare. The chicken burger isn't very good - some sort of odd flavoring there. But the regular hamburger is good. Nothing out of the ordinary here, for the most part you will find you're cliché Lincoln Park/Wrigleyville/Northside hangouts.

Actually, it's just really good ice cream - of all flavors. Margie's Candies (like the name!!!) is on the corner of Western & Armitage in Chicago and it's been there since 1921! The menu offers three pages of ice cream creations that are well priced and generally give you way more ice cream than you bargained for. One item includes more scoops of ice cream than you can picture and feeds something like 30 people! Whenever you order something with fudge, you don't just get the fudge on the ice cream, but instead a gravy boat full of fudge. Mmmmmm... The store itself is rather crowded with it's odd collection of decorations and the candy counter situated smack in the center of the store. Margie's sells homemade chocolates made in their store daily. You can also order many of them shipped online at http://www.margiescandies.com .

Ethel's is relatively new in the Chicago area, but they now have at least three locations (Michigan Ave., Lakeview and Old Orchard). I've greatly enjoyed the products of the store on a couple of different occasions. They offer a large variety of chocolates that range from the normal (caramels or nuts) to something a little different (PB&J, martini). The PB&J is surprisingly enjoyable. During the summer they also have chocolate covered fruit and the strawberries are to die for! Ethel's also offers hot and cold beverages and the hot chocolate is probably the best I've ever had. Rich and chocolatey, not fake tasting, and not overpowering in its sweetness, either. This store also offers the novelty of party hosting. You can bring a group in for a fondue party or chocolate tasting.
The prices are definitely in the high range, reserving Ethel's for special occasions ($1.50 per chocolate or $4 for a cup of hot chocolate).

This corner restaurant, located in the Depaul/Lincoln Park neighborhood, is a great place to stop for some great Italian food. I was once told that the words Enoteca Piattini have something to do with small plates, kind of like Spanish tapas - but somehow I always end up with leftovers. The plates may be smaller but they are definitely filled to the brim. There are daily specials for their pasta, risotto, fish, appetizers and wines. It is portrayed as a restaurant and wine bar and the extensive wine list is proof of that. My favorite day to visit is Sunday evening when it is buy one entree get one free. The atmosphere is lowlight with candles on the tables, but don't think this means only couples can go there. In fact I almost always go with a group of friends. Enoteca Piattini is definitely worth a visit.

I have been a patient at this dentistry for about 5.5 years now and am so glad I found them. They are always professional and organized. The dentists listen to what I have to say and the hygienists offer helpful information. I have seen Dr. Lewis for quiet some time but just recently switched to Dr. Casser because of her hours.
They book up quickly, so be sure to think in advance of when you need a check up. It will likely be at least four months out.

Mystic Celt is an Irish bar located in the Wrigleyville/Lakeview area of Chicago. It has a bar area and seating for those there for a meal. The menu is pretty good. I have enjoyed chicken sandwiches in the past and most recently really enjoyed the nacho platter which you can have chicken, beef or even chili on top! I chose the chili and it was great! The beer list is just so-so. I was not overly impressed. If you want to go socialize, listen to loud music and possibly dance this would be an ok place to go. But I just stick to grabbing a bite to eat.

I'm a big fan of Goose Island, especially the Clybourn location. It features an extensive beer list full of Goose Island brews. I tend to stick to just a few, but for you beer connoisseurs out there, you'll get a kick out of this place. The food that Goose Island serves is fantastic. My favorite appetizer is the nacho plate; the cheese is served inside a bread bowl surrounded by chips with your choice of toppings. The bread bowl can even be eaten if you are so inclined (& it's very tasty). Also on the menu is a delicious chicken pot pie that can easily last for two meals. There is a nice mix of sandwiches and home cooked favorites served with a flair.
There are two locations in Chicago - Clybourn and Wrigleyville. Both offer pretty much the same thing but I prefer the ambiance of the Clybourn location. Plus they have a parking lot, which is key in Chicago.

I try to fly United whenever possible if for no other reason than that is where I collect miles. In addition, I have always had pretty good service with this airline. They have extra legroom on some planes, though not on all. Since I live in Chicago (United headquarters), there are always plenty of flights to choose from. I find it very easy to check in with the automated machines. If you don't have any bags to check, you can use one of these machines without having to wait in line - though with current baggage restrictions traveling with only a carry on is definitely more difficult on any airline. I have generally found the staff at United to be friendly and helpful as well.
