Most of the food is the same as what you would find in a good coffee shop, but this is actually a trendy hangout catering to the downtown crowd. The downstairs is more like a lounge playing hip hop music while the upstairs is restaurant style w/ a bar. The drinks are good and in the summer it is a very good scene

Blue Water Grill is right in the middle of union square and has been named one of new york's most popular hangouts by zagat's. The food is excellent from the fish and steak to the desserts. I especially love the chocolate molten cake. There is a lot of outdoor seating when it's nice out as well and they offer live jazz downstairs.

It is on the pricey side so for those on a budget it is a little difficult to go when it's not a special occasion or on somebody else's tab.
