When I do decide to hit the Palace I can't say it's all that bad. The concessions folks etc. are generally friendly, and I've yet to stick to the floor. The prices are high but that's typical of first run theaters in the US, so it's hard to single out the Palace for that.
Why the disappointment? Consistently, the movies I actually want to watch never hit this theater, and the real snoozers get the screens. I can understand skipping the art house flicks, but this summer's selections really had me scratching my head. And, resorting to other city's theaters or waiting for DVDs for half a dozen of this summer's movies.

This is what I think of as a meat & potatoes restaurant, even though seafood is more their specialty. What I mean by that is they do a great job cooking quality fish and seafood (steaks aren't bad either if a little thin, though very well seasoned) but if you are looking for a strong showing from vegetables or pastas, this isn't the place.
But they excel in their specialty, and the staff is very friendly so if you are looking for cajun seafood, Dave's is one of Houma's better options.

I'm typically not a big fan of buffets, and I've had just enough authentic Chinese food that many of the overly Americanized restaurants turn me off, but Golden Dragon does an excellent job for what they are. I don't go away feeling like I've been pumped full of MSG, the food is tasty and varied even with the non-chinese additions to the buffet, and the family that runs it seems quite nice.
I haven't been to any of Houma's other Chinese restaurants, so I can't really make a comparative judgement here, but I've not had a bad experience here yet, even if this is the first Chinese restaurant I've been to that serves boiled crawfish.

A pleasant place to eat, if you can come to grips with the fact that it shares a building with a gas station (some people really get into this kind of atmosphere, others not so much). Good food, nice if informal service, and yeah, it tends to be very easy on the wallet.

La Casa has some good specialty plates, but their traditional dishes aren't terribly inspiring. Atmosphere, however, is good, as is the service. I can, however, only think of one other place in Houma that serves better Mexican and I tend to avoid it because the atmosphere feels very cold. All in all, probably Houma's best Mexican restaurant.

If you like Dark Roast coffee Starbucks is great; the service is excellent as well, and contrary to popular opinion prices are typically within a few cents of local competition. The trick to nearly all well run cafés is to avoid espresso or frozen drinks if you don't want to drop $5 on a drink. The pastries etc. are also very good, if pricey (to contrast with not so good, but pricey). Price aside, they consistently provide quality.
They only really miss out on my business on evenings when other local shops stay open later, or if they are overcrowded—which I'm assuming is more my problem than theirs.

Much more professional, I find, than the larger Books-a-Million, and for my reading tastes, I find I often have better luck finding what I'm looking for here—both from an organizational standpoint and in their selection of titles. Unfortunately, I find its location in the Southland Mall makes its operational hours somewhat inconvenient.
