Stacya does eyebrows and facials, waxing... and she does it well. She waxes and tweezes eyebrows to look natural and appropriate to your face. She will not over-tweeze and make them too skinny. She is good. And, she is really nice, warm, and personable. I have gone there for a few years, and, she always does a good job. Not rushed. Her studio is a craftsman cottage home in Queen Ann, and parking is free but it can take 5 mins. sometimes to find a spot. Stacya just radiates good energy: not too precious, and doesn't take herself too seriously, but definitely will help you make you look your best! Cost is $22, and she does have a website to check out.

My kids don't go here. I heard not great things about it, but the Wedgwood branch is so close I checked it out. Spoke to their teachers at the school on two different visits. I didn't like what I saw. They care more about the precision of their philosophy then about being responsive and adaptive to the kids. For example, I asked teacher Kate what the biggest challenge was, thinking she might say having a hyper boy in the class, or, cold and flu season, or getting new kids over seperation anxiety... etc. No , teacher Kate said the biggest problem were the parents.
Not a huggy bunch of people. Not from what I saw.
It is strange - they are so into fostering independence in a child, and letting the child feel in control and free to choose, yet, if the child chooses a toy that she 'hasn't had a lesson on', they are not allowed to play with it. So much for independence. More like you can do what you want to do so long as it is what I want you to do. Rather like a well trained penal colony.
The Wedgwood branch was clean and tidy and organized with lots of toys and an outdoor space.

The same teacher has been there for 17 years, what can I say, I never see her talking to the kids; I never see her playing with the kids; I never hear her catching the kids being good, but she quickly admonishes them when they do something a little wrong.
Preschool is semi-co-op, you need to help 4 or 5 times, and you need to bring a snack about 3 times. There are lots of toys scattered around, but not teacher playing with them. There are lots of big cars, an indoor jungle jim with mats and a slide, there is a doll house, a train table, a little kitchen and a little work bench.
The kids arrive, have free play for 30 mins. then a couple of books are read to them and they sing a couple of songs (note that they really aren't taught the songs), then an art project, then hand washing for all the tots, then a snack, more free play, then dismissed.
The art project is always nicely organized: sometimes the children get stickers to put on a cut out house, or, put a feather on a bird, or, color a paper crown.
Basically, there is no teaching. No alphabet letters, no positive reinforcement, just a lot of chatter between the teacher and parents.
This is cheap, and a safe environment for kids to play and begin to learn how to do what they are told in a group setting. Not much more.

for kids' shoes, i have been to nordstrom and payless shoes both at northgate mall, sole food, and to the shoe zoo, but none of these stores seems to emphasize (let alone offer) easy velcro shoes. i always go for kids shoes that have 2 things: (1) one (not two) wide velcro strap, and (2) wide-tongue so that you can splay the shoe wide open... that is what i want as a busy mom who is juggling a baby and a 2 year old. shoe zoo only had one model for boys and a couple umi brand pink boots for girls. the store does have free easy parking and helpful knowledgable staff -- just no shoes i want to buy. so, i won't go back
on the other hand, zappos on-line has tons of shoes with just one velcro strap that open up wide to make putting the shoe on a little foot super easy (you can even search for such shoes on their website as they have a whole search category for 'hook-and loop' aka velcro). so, i bought on ebay a childrens brannock device which is the foot measuring device and now i just measure my kid's foot at home and then order on line. easier than visiting the shoe zoo, prices are better on line, and you don't have to bundle the baby or look for parking. sorry, shoe zoe. zappos is not only easier, it is superior.

amazing skillful surgeon. up-to-date and experienced. delivered thousands of babies, yet she is not yet 40. excellent physician. also, great human being, very caring. she is an excellent listener and will deliver your baby your way - if you want no drugs, no intervention - that is the way she will go. or, if you are like me, and want total drugs instantly and right away - she will do that too. she is non judgemental and she does amazing sutures - my husband also a doc. watched and was impressed (some use staples - yuck). go see her and she will take amazing care of you as if you are her sister! she will patiently answer all of your questions and will treat you with respect. she is completely up on the latest school of thought about various ob issues - such as premature labour, repeat c-section or vaginal birth after c-section, multiples, group b strep, etc. she also will help you with nutrition too - recomending stores that sell protein powder that is delicious if you are having trouble eating... just a phenomenal person and amazing doctor. she practices at the polyclinic now - and their support staff is not too great - but she is worth putting up with their distant attitudes. elena is amazingly on-time, which i think is a remarkable feat for an ob - certainly not one that i expect... i can't say enough good about her and her heeling abilities. i know that with my two deliveries i wanted things a bit out of the norm, and she did not bat an eyelash, instead she was very supportive. and, she does not have an arrogant bone in her body - which is pretty impressive for a surgeon.

I went there once because it was so highly rated. What can I say: they ran 40 mins. late for my appointment (no apologies were made), the stylist was trying to do me and another woman at the same time - it took forever, the cut was nothing special, the atmosphere was intense (too precious, too stuck up, too focused on the beautiful people driving beautiful cars) and the price was ridculous - $270 for a cut and highlights and a 'glaze'. The cut was really not great, but it wasn't a disaster either. It just wasn't very much of anything (except, of course, expensive). And they pressured me to buy gel and other products (you know, showing them to you while you are in the chair with the apron on asking you which one you wanted...). The parking was difficult to find and expensive (not the salon's fault, of course). Plus, you have to fight traffic to get there. Skip it.
Pros: none really - just trendy but not really great
Cons: expensive and nothing special
Overall user rating: Not Recommended

Dr. Bhanji is wonderful - loving, patient, gentle and gears her talk and treatment for what is appropriate for the child. Her office just west of the I-5 right near the northgate mall is a kid paradise: bright cheerful colors on the walls, games galore in the waiting room, all staff totally kid friendly, demonstrations dolls and alligators with teeth to help kids, and lots of natural light and openess. Parents are welcome to be with their little ones every single momemt (some dentists are won't allow the parent to escort the child - that is very poor practise in my opinion - the parent should always be with the child). She has a flat screen TV above the each chair that plays Barney - perfect for kids. The hygenist is super - Ann Marie - very soft spoken and sweet. Their focus is to make it fun and happy. They clean teeth of children as young as 1. No forcing here. If your kid isn't ready - they sense that and move on. Plus, a toy prize vending machine, free underground parking... Dr. Bhanji completed a fellowship (extra training) at Children's Hospital - where she won an award for research. We are happy with her and her team and her philosophy

Go see Eric! He is a true genius of hair - I went from frumpy to georgous and I am amazed each time he cuts my hair how wonderful I can look! Eric Saranto owns and operates this salon. It is a small but air studio just off Roosevelt and you can park easily for free right in front of his studio. He is nice and always listens and is down to earth. No snotty attitude here. Sometimes, a great stylist get so egotistical and aloof - not Eric: he is talented and genuine and nice. Cuts are about $65 and he gives great color too. His small dog Maggie is there too, chilling out and looking cute.

The people are really nice, and, they know how to work with babies, they are patient and have toys, etc. But, for the discerning eye, their photos suck. They do use a 'real' camera (not a digital) which is great, and they print on premises - but their printing is awful. No color correction, no burn out or dogde in (technical terms). The point is, they are the 'Macdonald's' of photos - they take them and then print them fast without care or attention so you get what you get. If you are fussy, you won't like this. But, for the average person, it will be just find. I found it expensive: $19 for either an 8x10 or 2 5x7 photos. Since Shutterfly prints cost about $1 for a 5x7, and you don't have to go to a mall for it, I won't bother going back to the picture people. But like I said, they were really nice. The lighting is good. It is drop in. But, they take too long and the quality of the photo sucks. They say it takes an hour - I went when it wasn't busy and it took close to 2 hours for just the printing. They also do passport photos for $17 - but these also take too long.
