When I bought my Volkswagen, I went to Rusty Wallis Volkswagen because it was recommended to me by other VW owners. I knew exactly what car I wanted when I went in, and my sales person was great. He helped me with what I wanted and never tried to push me into anything pricier. I was less pleased with the finance department because they really tried to get me to do a lease deal when I wasn’t interested. I have taken the VW back to Rusty Wallis for a couple of oil changes. The staff is really friendly, but because of the long wait times I have started doing my routine car service elsewhere

Baylor Tom Landry Center is a great exercise facility located near downtown Dallas next to Baylor Hospital. They have a beautiful outdoor track as well as an indoor track. There are pools for water aerobics and swimming laps. They offer a variety of classes, such as step aerobics, yoga, Pilates, etc. The staff is really friendly. They are currently remodeling, so there is some construction noise at times, but other than that, it’s a great gym.

Garland Road Thrift Store is a huge thrift store near White Rock Lake. They have a lot of clothes, furniture, books, board games, dishes, and a fairly large selection of stereos and other electronics. The store is in an older building, and there are definitely no frills, but the place has so much stuff. This is a great place for browsing because they have everything.

The Lakewood Theater is a historic theater in the Lakewood area. It’s got a style that the newer theaters don’t have. There is a balcony, but it’s not always open. The theater is open for concerts, special movies, and other random events. I live near the Lakewood Theater, so I can keep an eye on what’s coming up by reading the marquee each day. It can range from Henry Rollins' Spoken Word Tour to Old School showing at the midnight movie, to Gay Bingo. It has an old theater marquee that you rarely see anymore. You also can't miss their neon tower at night. My only complaint is the small bathroom. There are only 3 stalls (ladies), so the lines can get pretty long during intermissions. Prices vary depending on the event. At one recent movie showing, admission was only $1. For national acts, the prices are about average.

Sometimes it’s nice to shop for unique clothes that aren’t sold in every chain store in every mall. Emeralds to Coconuts is a nice change. They sell imports, and the smell of incense while shopping is very relaxing.

Pocket Sandwich Theater is an interesting place to go see a play and eat dinner at the same time. It’s located near Mockingbird Station, on the South side of Mockingbird (near Jason’s Deli, but in the corner). The place is really small and cozy, and you can throw popcorn at the performers. That’s always fun. It’s something fun to do for a change of pace. The performances and prices vary, so you might want to check the website for specifics. There are late night shows on weekends.

Mid-Cities Skateland is located on Beltline Road between Airport Freeway and I-30. When I was looking for a rink for a birthday party, Mid-Cities Skateland had the best price for a private party. The staff was really friendly and helpful, and the price of the party included a birthday cake as well as a small trophy for the birthday girl (who just happened to be somewhere close to 30 years old.) I had new wheels put on my skates before the party, and after two hours of skating, they were pretty dirty. I don’t know if this is normal for a skating rink since I don’t regularly skate on new wheels, but it may be that the floor needed to be cleaned. Other than that, I had a great experience, and recommend the place for private birthday parties.

I was referred to Dr. Henegar several years ago. I’ve been a patient for about 7 years. He has moved offices a couple of times since I’ve been with him because his practice keeps growing. They just moved into a brand new office that is very nice. Everything is high-tech and up to date. They have the Dish Network in each room and will let you watch whatever you want. Everyone is really nice, and you will see the same hygienist each time. I actually don’t dread going to the dentist anymore.
