My experiences with the Refinery have been mixed. They do a GREAT job with waxing. I'm typically prone to breaking out after a wax, and I have never had a bad reaction when I get it done at this place. I was less pleased about my massage experience there-- the ambiance was nice, and my masseuse was very nice, but her technique was not great-- she had a weird move where when she finished a stroke, she'd do this weird vibrating move with her hand-- not very relaxing!
My experiences with the hairstylists has not been very positive. They give me a decent cut, but they seem very rude and pretentious about it. The first time I got my hair cut there (after a particularly bad cut from elsewhere) the stylist kept saying things like "Who did this to you?!" Yes, I understand it was a bad cut... no need to rub it in! The second time I got my hair done there, the stylist was downright rude-- it had been a while since I'd had my hair colored, and I mentioned that I needed to choose a color and get it done in the next few weeks. The stylist replied "Uh, YEAH, you think?" I haven't gone back since then.

HCX Dinkytown has done a great job with my hair in the past. They are conscientious (e.g. using heat-free color techniques on hot days) without being pretentious. I've always been pleased with my color there; I'm happy with my haircut 95% of the time, and the other 5% they will do whatever they need to (help with styling, tweaking a style) to make it right.
