Academy sports and outdoors offer everything an active child needs in today's world. Whether it's equipment for recreational sports i.e. football, basketball or soccer. Or if it's backyard sports such as yard darts, ring toss, horseshoes, or balls to kick around for a game of kickball, Academy sports will keep your kids active.
Also Academy sports has the clothes to go right along with the equipment, from name brands like Nike and Adidas right down to the academy clothing brands. The t-shirts are always a riot with my kid sister because they say something like "step back boys, watch this girl play".
Or for the little hunter in your life the Academy sports can fit them for the clothing required to make those hunts. They can also help with swimsuits and life preservers when summer comes around.
Highly recommend Academy Sports for all you sporting and clothing needs.

Brushworks is one of Houma's great instructional centers. The great thing about Brushworks is that they include children, in fact they offer classes and camps including the kids in all activities.
Brushworks offers general art classes, my kid brother attends these, the classes are geared towards 5-13 year olds and he loves em.
They also offer camps for preschool children, ages 3-4, imagine teaching that many kids art at one time, they got the patience.
The art studies that Brushworks are teaching include painting, sculpture, art history, photography (adults only, ages 15 and up), desing, printmaking, and drawing, it seems like a missed several things but for the life of me I can't remember.
They are also now teaching guitar lessons ages 10 and up. They offer lessons in electric, bass, and acoustic guitars.
The prices are reasonable for what the child is being taught and my brother feels as though he has accomplished something since he's unable to play sports. It's this kind of class that takes in all comers, now matter the physical disablities.
Oh yeah, they are located at 1463 St Charles St in Houma, right there in the Summerfield Plaza, if you are ever in Houma, stop in and you will be amazed.

If you want new items for the children in your life, without having to pay that ridiculous prices department stores charge, then you have to get on over to Tanger Outlet malls.
We have one in Gonzales, LA, about an hour from us, but well worth the drive to get there. The price paid for the gasoline, is tripled in the amount saved on the items purchased. They are conviently located at I10 and Hwy 30 in Gonzales. For those of you who don't know the area, it's Exit 177.
Mom and I shop there often when we need several gifts, especially gifts for a baby shower or kids.
The outfits for the kids are at prices that can't be beat, the baby items and layette sets are awesome. We got a complete layette set for my friend's baby for under 10 bucks and that was Carter's so we got the name brand deal.
My kid sister is in a size 7-8 kids and we outfitted her for winter two weeks ago, with last years styles, for under a hundred bucks, talk about Mom was about ready to fall out.
Just to name a few of the stores that are there ready to serve kids and baby's needs, Bass, Big Dog, Carter's, Old Navy, Oshkosh, Tommy Hilfiger clearance, and that's only some of the name brands.

My two brothers and I were participates with the Terrebonne Parish 4H, through our school systems. I must tell you that Shaney Hill, the director of the 4H organization for Terrebonne Parish is wonderful. Within the 4H program, all children are equal. The grades they recieve in school are irrelevant to thier 4H projects, any disabilities are also unnoticed.
We have competed in cooking contests, animal showings, and sewing contests, winning trophies along the way. Even if the child can not make it to compete at shows, they are given points for simply completing thier 4H booklet on time, completely filled in.
Now my kid sister is a 4Her and she loves it. They had a 4H extravaganza at school saturday and she's still talking about it. It was basically a fun-day with games, activities and raffles to win.
The booklets range from getting to know the community to more specialist projects like sewing or animal rearing.
The camps during summer are awesome and keep from the 4th graders all the way through seniors in high school busy and happy.
If your child is ever given the chance to be a part of 4H please consider it, this is an opportunity that will grow with them forever. The challenges they learn and conquer in 4H will make them better persons all around.

Target always has such great prices on the items for the kids, toys, clothes, shoes included. Since the seasons are beginning to turn here, couldn't happen fast enough for us, my kid sister needed uniform pants for school.
Naturally no one else had uniform pants, not even at full price, ok so dad and I didn't go to walmart, but our last stop before giving up was Target.
Not only did we end up with uniform pants, but we ended up with them at 6.50 per pair, 1/2 off of the original price. Plus we ended up with her a pack of socks for like 3 bucks, and a couple of those t-shirts with the cute sayings for 3 bucks as well.
Not that we could search and explore because we had her with us, but the 20.00 toys were marked down to 8 bucks, mom is suppose to go back today and stock up for Christmas.
The pajamas weren't on sale, but mom usually buys her the 2 pairs to mix and match for 16.00 which is a bargain in itself.
Target also has thier Halloween shirts out now, 5 bucks for the kids sizes so I recommend you get there now.

The indoor playplace in this establishment is huge, great for kids to play in and even make new friends in the process, believe me, I have seen it done before.
The birthday parties are awesome, but be on time, because if you are late, that's taken away from the total hours allowed per party.
As far as service recieved during and after ordering and the food quality, it does leave alot to be desired. I don't recommend this restraurant for those two above reasons unless you are there for the playplace or the birthday parties.
I have been there many times before and had my foods fixed wrong, as in completely, then the employee tell me "that's what you ordered", yet my reciept says different.
The lobby of the restraurant can often be found dirty, with people loitering around taking up table space. No need to complain to management as it's some of the employees family and friends.

OK I have no kids, but I am all too often either watching my kid sister or babysitting, so I feel I am able to give expert opinions in this catergory.
Gym Dandy is our local thrift store here in Thibodaux area. It's located on Jackson St. right next to the Thibodaux Tire and Auto.
You might say thrift store, no way, but before you make such judgement calls read on. Gym Dandy has been in business for nearly 40 years. They offer great prices starting out at .25 cents on up and have a wide variety of children's books, toys, games, shoes, and outdoor gear, most of which are name brands.
I am a firm believer of why pay full price for items that the kids will outgrow in just a couple of months anyway.
All monies earned by the store is used to support the Mother's club at the local Catholic High school which is then generated back into the community, so as you see this is a win/win situation.

Unfortunately Thibodaux has no YMCA. To enjoy such things, we go to the YMCA in houma, located on Valhi Blvd, right next to the Houma Christian School.
They have a great equipment room for weightlifting and working out, an aerobic room, an olympic sized swimming pool wich has three or four lanes roped off for lap swimming while the rest of the pool is available for kids to play. They also offer a suana in the men's and women's bathrooms as well as a whirlpool for relaxing. The YMCA has an in-house daycare room which provides daycare while the parents are working out.
The YMCA also has extensive sports programs for the young and young at heart. They are now registering for the adult flag football program as well as the soccer programs.
They are always overstaffed with very friendly people who are ever so willing to help. They offer swimming lessons, even lessons for the challenged individual, something others in the area don't offer.
This is the place to be for exercising or just relaxing in a great Christian environment. The YMCA offers memberships at discounted rates for families who can't afford the whole price, what a great way to ensure Christian values.

Our family doesn't eat out at burger places often, but when we do, we expect an order to be hot and correct. Well we finally quit going to Wendy's in thibodaux, the orders are always missing an item and by the time the order is correct, the whole thing has gotten cold.
I am not the only person who is having this problem with this Wendy's restraurant. We have complained to the management about the situation, but it always happens again.
We try to be very patient, as we realize mistakes happen because it is run by humans, but it gets rather aggravating to be half way home only to discover, they cheated you out of a fry. Now we sit in the parking lot to check over the order, and run inside for any corrections to be made.
peace,

The little girl I used to babysit attended this dance studio for a few years. The little girl always loved going to "Ms.Denise" and she always came home with a ton of stories to tell.
The mother of the little girl, Betti, loved the rates of the classes as well as the fact that the studio is located right near her home, no running across town in rush hour traffic.
The dance recitals are too cute, absolutely adorable and I highly recommend this studio. Denise took time with each student making sure they knew the steps before she went onto something new. She also assigned homework for the students to practice. For some reason the child, Tracy, hated to do her school homework, but loved to do Ms. Denise's homework.
I passed in front of the studio the other day and they are celebrating thier 20th anniversary, that should tell the parents something about the quality of the teaching the children are recieving.
peace,
