Omaha is, essentially, a military surplus outlet. They have uniforms, accessories, and memoribilia of all branches of the military. But the reason I like it is for the random, unique items I always find there. A friend of mine buys gently used fatigue t-shirts there (plain, army green) for $2 to $3 apiece. What a deal! If you're prepared for what you'll be dealing with, it's definitely worth a look.

Record Town has been around for ages. I read somewhere that Record Town is Fort Worth's second oldest music shop. It is really just fun to go in there and root around in their wide selection of vinyl. Of course, they have CDs and stuff too, but the records are what they're known for. Going into Record Town is a nostalgic experience. This family-owned business is worth your time.

I got a haircut here on the advice of my boss. It was a mistake; I'll never go back again. It was far away from everything, way over in southwest Fort Worth. The stylist acted like she had known me for 10 years, which made me uncomfortable, frankly (she made me hug her when I left). Moreover, it was too expensive for the quality of work.

I love everything about this place. I love the atmosphere (a converted bungalow with cool art and decor), the stylists, and the finished product. This is the first place I've ever been that when I leave, I don't feel like I'm about to audition for the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. Most places I go seem to want to make my hair as poofy as possible. Not at Shampoo. They actually listen to the client. And, they don't accept tips, so they keep their clients from that awkward situation. They use great products and do a great job. I love, love, love getting my hair cut at Shampoo.

The stylists at Lux Machine are well trained and highly qualified. They do good work. It's just not practical for most normal people to go there very often, though, because it's prohibitively expensive. I know a lot of people won't put a price on a good haircut, but I just can't bring myself to part with that much money if my hair is just going to grow back.

Like most thrift stores, McCart Thrift is hit-or-miss. But when there are good finds, they are really good. It's huge (it used to be a big store like a Wal-Mart or something), and the selection is pretty large. Of course, the prices are great, so relatively infrequent trips to McCart Thrift should yield a pretty good haul of clothes and other random stuff.

The Kimbell is certainly the more popular of the two museums separated by Arch Adams Street. While I feel that the Kimbell pales in comparison with The Modern (the other museum), I can see why the Kimbell's appeal is wider than its neighbor. They have more of a classical collection, with master artists who happen to have recognizable names. Their facility, while on the small side, makes the most of its space. They have many impressive traveling exhibitions that don't really appeal to me, but others seem to love them.

Fort Worth is lucky to have The Modern. It's sleek, sophisticated, impressive, and boasts a collection of modern art to rival any in the country. Its amazing Tadao Ando-designed facility is perfectly suited to the treasures inside. They have outstanding programs for students of all ages. The Cafe Modern is a first-rate restaurant, as well, All in all, the experience of the Modern, whether there is a special exhibition or not, is well worth the price of admission or membership.

Archie's is one of the last great independent garden shops that I've seen. When you compare their selection and quality with places like Lowe's, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, and others, there really is no comparison. The quality of product at Archie's is great. It's only slightly more expensive than those large retailers, but worth it in the long run, because the items you buy there last much longer.

H N Nails has great prices, and I had one of the best pedicures I've ever had there. They really take their time, mainly because they do so many coats of polish. But as everyone knows, the more coats they take the time to do, the longer the pedicure is going to last. It is a bit of a drive for me, but it's well worth it when I can spend $17 on a pedicure that lasts at least a month.
