If you're already stopping by McCart Thrift, Chip's is in the same shopping center. It's not nearly as likely to yield any great finds, though. It is all used furniture, but it is kind of expensive considering that most of the furniture is of mediocre quality at best. If you've ever bought used furniture, you know that it takes some looking to really find anything. Chip's will just slow you down in that quest.

This store has a wide variety of used furniture and appliances. Like all stores that sell used merchandise, the selection can be hit or miss. You just have to keep looking to find that "diamond in the rough," I guess. The prices are great, and you can find some rare gems most of the time. For example, my boyfriend got a real Heywood Wakefield bureau for a couple hundred bucks. Not bad!

A lot of people have told me to go to Chicotsky's for wine and liquor. But in my experience, it is expensive and the selection is rather limited. The store is rather small, and the staff is not all that helpful. I can usually find a better deal and better selection on liquor elsewhere. For wine, Central Market is better than any liquor store.

Everyone should visit the Botanic Gardens at least a few times. It is magnificent year round. They also do a lot of events there, especially weddings. As you can imagine, weddings there are lovely....

It's free or cheap to go walk around and look at everything the gardens have to offer, so like I said, everyone should check it out.

I took my dog to Wedgwood Animal Hospital because I adopted him from a rescue organization, and the organization had a deal with several area vets to check out adopted animals for general health. I felt that Dr. Lozzi did not really care to answer any of my questions, perhaps because the visit was free. Maybe his expertise serves paying customers a little better.

Dr. Carol Pearce Cass, the primary vet at Westcliff Animal Hospital, is one of the best in the business. She genuinely cares about each one of her "patients," and also about their "parents," however neurotic they might be. My dog Mitchell will only go to her from now on. It was expensive for the first visit, but regular office visits are only about $35 (which is cheap, from what I've heard).

Every city has a museum like this. It's "activity-heavy," meaning that there are plenty of things for visitors to do, see, touch, and otherwise experience. Kids love this place, and it is clearly meant for them. For anyone who has kids, I recommend taking them to the Museum of Science and History.

I just don't get why the Movie Tavern is so popular. I think it's great that an independent theater has been able to survive in this corporate climate, but I don't understand why anyone would want to go to a theater where the floors are constantly filthy and the auditoriums themselves seem to be in dire need of some updating. Oh, that's right. Beer.

From what I can surmise, many, many of the photographers and photography buffs in the area use CBC exclusively for their printing. They do a beautiful job. Of course, they cost more than Walgreen's, but you can't have it all. They will also, I believe, make you a contact sheet (such an antiquated notion!) for selecting prints, rather than producing prints for all the shots on a roll.

I reluctantly accept the fact that when I go in to Asel Art Supply to make a purchase (usually some cheap canvas or a cool pen), I am going to get condescending stares from the apparently starving artists who work there. I'm OK with that. This place is so cool. Whether you're a serious artist like the employees there or an amateur hack like me, there's something for everybody.
