This Mexican restaurant has a great selection of Tex-Mex entrees. I especially love their signature quesidillas with cream cheese, almonds and raisins... sounds weird but they're delicious! The prices are reasonable for their huge portions-- you can easily have dinner for under $10.
The downside to this small, local restaurant is that it's pretty dark and very loud-- its almost always crowded and the bar, combined with the small layout of the restaurant, causes this. For this reason, though, I think it would be a comfortable place to take kids... a loud child wouldn't turn any extra heads!
The service is usually good, although once or twice it was quite slow. Still, the great food makes up for it, esp. if you pay attention to prices when you dine out!

Trader Joes is a mix between a gourmet grocery store and a health food store like Wild Oats. They carry a wide selection of organic products, as well as "regular" products that are little more fancy or obscure than what you'd find at your regular store. Many of their items are under Trader Joe's own product line, and all of them delicious! Because of this, most their products are extremely affordable.. not at all overpriced, and sometimes even less than your grocery store!
TJ's has a great frozen food selection without all the preservatives and extra junk in other products. They have all kinds of crackers, other snacks, nuts, cookies, etc., a lot of which are slightly healthier than similar, namebrand products... no tran fats, more whole grains, etc. They also have a lot of fun desserts to try- frozen cheesecakes, ice cream cakes, etc.
While the store is always expanding their selection, it's not quite one stop shopping... certain items on your grocery list (canned frosting, for instance) won't be there.
But everything they have is great. And you don't have to take my word for it-- they have a guarantee on all their products!!

The thing I love about Wild Oats is that anything you buy/consume here, you can assume is healthy... their dark chocolate, baked goods, etc. Right?! Or so I like to tell myself!
I often go to Wild Oats and just walk up and down the aisles, looking at their wide selection of frozen foods, produce, dairy products, cheeses, their impressive bakery and deli, etc. While they carry mostly different brands than what you find at your grocery store, their selection is almost as big as your regular grocery store!
I especially reccomend this store for buying "outside the box"-- i.e, their deli/bakery, produce, cheeses, etc. That's where there gourmet, extensive selection really shines through!
Wild Oats stores often have family events for parents and kids alike, where they'll have health/nutrition classes, free samples, etc. enjoy!

Cold Stone is my favorite place for ice cream in my area. The ice cream is flavorful, smooth and delicious, let alone all the "mix-ins" ranging from coconut to fruits to candy bars to fresh brownies!
If you're not familiar with the "process," you first choose a flavor of ice cream (they have 12-14 rotating flavors, from Sweet Cream (their vanilla) to cake batter) and then how ever many mix-ins you would like. The person then dishes out the ice cream on to literally, a freezing cold granite stone, piles on the mix-ins, then blends the two using spatulas (its fun to watch!) That way you can make EXACTLY the kind of ice cream you want!
The one downside to CS would definitely be the prices. For ice cream, it runs a little high, but sitll no more than your Grande Starbucks drink and the servings are really generous! You can make it economical by sharing a pint with a friend, or they recently added a Kids size--- only $1.50 for 3 oz of ice cream and one mix in-- really the perfect size!! It's supposed to be for 12 and under, but I was able to buy this size, too!

The Caddilac Cafe in Portland serves up an awesome breakfast or brunch!! They have an extensive menu with traditional and slightly more untraditional breakfast entrees... you can be as adventurous as you dare! Every day they have a different special bread, so you might be able to get a scone or homemade banana bread with your meal instead of the traditional toast. They are also famous for their rich, custard french toast with hazelnuts! Yum!
The food is tasty and features a lot of local ingredients (i.e. the hazelnuts). The atmosphere is fun-- you can tell there are A LOT of locals that go here, especially on the weekends. Go early to get your name in, because you will probably have to wait! But it's most definitely worth it.
The managers are almost always serving as hosts, taking names at the front entrance, which I appreciate. They take good care of you with excellent food and service!!
Enjoy! :-)

The Marshall House is nestled in Vancouver's Officer's Row. Amidst a street of beautiful, old houses, this "house" has opened itself up to the public to be rented for family or office parties, receptions, and other events.
The building is not huge, but can handle around 100 people, more for an open house.
In our experience, the staff was helpful, friendly, knowledgable. We had my sister's wedding reception here in December, and the house was already decorated for Christmas (very classy!), so we had next to nothing to decorate!
The only catch to this site is that because it's owned by the cities, you must have a professional caterer. they have a long list of approved caterers, or you can get your own caterer approved. The nice thing about choosing off the list is that they all familiar with the MH and their expectations.
Prices are moderate, so even with the catering, it turns relatively affordable!

This restaurant is one of Camas' gems. Outside of the developing "town," this old-fashioned diner provides a family-friend environment and a darn-good burger!
The inside is nothing fancy, but has an old-town feel, like hambuger "joints" used to look like! There is ample seating (booths) for families and a huge menu of burgers, seasoned fries, fish and chips, some chicken, and lots ice cream treats. Best of all, the prices are extremely reasonable!! Three of us went and all got burgers and fries for $12! **A small basket of fries is more than enough for 3 people!!**
If you're looking for something a little more special than your typical American fast food, go back in time and give this burger joint a try!

I have to admit, WinCo is not my first choice of places to shop. However, when it comes to saving money or buying bulk food items (nuts, special ingredients for recipes, etc), it's a winner!
The other day I needed several ingredients for some cookies--- walnuts, coconuts, etc. I went to WinCo so I could get a small amount and hopefully save some money. The prices there were less than 1/2 as much as at the grocery store, and I was able to get exactly how much I needed for the recipe! There selection of bulk foods is quite amazing! All kinds of nuts, cereals, spices, and like I said, special ingredients--- sweetened coconut, turbinado sugar, etc! it's slightly awe-inspring, actually! I always end up spending 1/2 hour just wandering around gawking at their selection!
There other grocery items are all slightly less than your average grocer, as well. But the real bargain is in the bulk!

The Macaroni Grill has a wonderful menu of pastas and individual pizzas, as well as a few entrees (chicken, steak, fish, etc). I have been here twice, both times with a group of people, and to date, everyone has been happy with their meals!
The service is great and the restaurant has a classy but casual flair. For instance, white linen tableclothes are covered with butcher paper for drawing while you wait! There are a number of nice touches, such as the delicious foccassia-type bread they serve with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Yum! It makes it worth the trip in itself! :-)
An insider's tip: the restaurant doesn't have their classic macaroni and cheese on the menu! We asked, and they said we could order it off the kids menu-- the "Big Mac." it's rich and creamy and delicious and it's a huge portion for just $5.99.
Skip the BBQ tonite and go to this "grill!" :-)
