If you are visiting Jack Frost Big Boulder for some skiing this winter, you'll want to check out Marita's II for some good Mexican food. Located on Route 940 in the Pocono Pines, Marita's is a small Mexican restaurant with a great menu and exceptional service.
We had a wonderful meal there recently and I must say, we were pleasantly surprised at the menu and the food. I hesitate to eat at Mexican food restaurants because I really don't like hot, spicy foods. Marita's food is full flavored and includes all the typical menu choices of most Mexican restaurants, but the food is not overly spiced. Instead, they give you a bowl of chopped jalapeño peppers and a bowl of mild salsa along with a basket of tortillas when you are seated. This way you can have your food as hot as you'd like. I did not use any of the peppers and therefore I was able to enjoy my meal.
I order the steak and shrimp fajitas which came on a sizzling plate. Along with all the ingredients to roll my own fajitas were two tortillas, guacamole and sour cream. The portions were very large and I had a hard time finishing my entrée. I had coffee along with my meal which was very good.
The restaurant also has a bar and two TV's. The dress is casual and there were many families enjoying a meal as well.
If you like Mexican food I highly recommend Marita's II.

These little bears are just too darn cute. There are 40 Valentine Bears to chose from with a Valentine Day theme. I don't go to Shawnee often since it is far for us to travel, but when we want a change of scenery we travel to Shawnee which is in the Eastern Pocono Mountains

Split Rock Lodge is one of the best places in the Pocono Mountains any time of the year but it is special in the winter. Split Rock Resort has 500 acres including 125 acres on Lake Harmony in the midst of mountain scenery that you can explore by hiking, biking, or snow sports. Split Rock is near several ski resorts.
The lodge has 426 guest rooms, and each room is beautifully decorated. The amenities are fabulous and provide the most in comfort.
The Galleria at Split Rock has two restaurants, a pizza shop and an old-fashioned ice cream parlor. Amenities include indoor and outdoor pools, a children's pool, sauna, hair salon, barbecue grills, fitness equipment and laundry facilities.
There are two indoor pools, one outdoor pool, a swimming lagoon, miniature golf, indoor and outdoor tennis, archery, bocci ball, a movie theater, bowling alley, health club, golf course, sailing on the lake, fishing, paddle boats, water-skiing, hiking, biking, cross-country and downhill skiing in wintertime, and golf at the Split Rock Country Club.
With so much to do and see, I think everyone will enjoy this spot in the Poconos.

Elk Mountain is located in Union Dale, PA and dates back to 1959, when Elk became one of Pennsylvania's first commercial ski areas. There are 27 trails, snow making capabilities, and ski school programs. They offer baby sitting on weekends and holidays at an hourly rate, first come basis.
I did not see any snowboarders at Elk Mountain or Tubing so I presume this limits the amount of visitors. Both of these sports are very popular now and perhaps they will offer both of these sports in the future. Elk Mountain is for the serious skier though.
After skiing, be sure to check out the Winter Garden Restaurant for a bite to eat. The food is reasonably priced and very good.
Elk Mountain Ski Resort is located north of Scranton, Pennsylvania, easily accessible from Interstate 81, off Exit 206.

The main lodge has been overhauled as has the parking area and there is the addition of a new high-speed detachable six-person lift. For snowboarders there is a half-pipe and two terrain parks. All totaled, they have spent well over 5 million dollars on upgrades throughout the mountain.
Here you will find night skiing, excellent snow making, and very good grooming of the slopes. Summit Lodge or the Valley Lodge are great places to kick back and relax and have a bite to eat.
There are four learning centers, two terrain parks, two full rental and repair shops, free babysitting, and a skiers store offering a wide range of ski products and accessories.

Montage Mountain is in the far Northwestern Poconos, just outside of Scranton at Exit 51 off of Interstate 81. Some now know Montage as Sno Mountain since reorganization in the Fall of 2006. Montage has 21 trails and seven lifts and make snow when nature doesn't provide it and you can night ski at Montage Mountain. For snow boarders they have a Freestyle Snowboarding Fun Park, and a 500-foot half-pipe. Tubing is also very popular and offers a fun alternative if you don't ski or snowboard.
This is one of the most popular ski areas in the Pocono Mountains.
