The Bonaventure used to have a 5-star rating back in the day. They're a 4-star now, but they've done a bit of renovation and the place looks pretty good. The rooms are a bit small, but cozy and comfortable. There are a bunch of cheesy shops on the first few floors, but once you get to your room, the view is amazing. Parking is $25 a day, which is about normal for L.A., for garage valet, but you know your car will be safe, and you can come and go 24 hrs a day. If you contact reservations directly, they'll still charge you more than 150 a night, but on priceline, you should be able to get a room for 75 or less.

My wife and I love going to French restaurants. We love the sauces, meat, and fish dishes. What we don't appreciate, is when a menu gets too complex with its garnish options. Cafe Pinot is great. They have a one page menu, so the choice is limited, but their daily specials are fantastic. Their steaks are cooked to order and for a limited time, they had a domestic-Kobe beef special that was just phenomenal; truly the best steak I'd ever eaten, but a bit expensive. You can't eat French food without wine, and although I can't speak to Pinot's wine list, they have no corking fee, so I just bring my own.

This place is a spa and salon for men. I don't normally care about how I look, but once in a while it's good to be clean cut, from the tips of your fingers to the bottom of your feet. My wife has, on occasion, dragged my to her salon of choice, and I've been REALLY uncomfortable. Profile is a perfect solution. They offer the typical spa services: Haircuts, massage, hand/foot detailing, facials, waxing, and tanning. However, they also have 18 HD plasma TVs, you can always check out a game or Sports Center while you're getting pampered. They have free WiFI, a putting green, sell cigars, offer shoe shines, have an XBox, offer auto detailing, have a juice bar, and a VIP lounge. I should also mention that the staff is made up entirely of pretty women. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

This is a neat bar. The layout alone is worth a visit. It's partly indoors, partly outdoors. Complete with two floors, live music, pool tables, big screen TVs, and generous happy hours. Their appetizers are huge and can be a meal unto themselves. The poppers were tasty and went well with a beer (or two). The staff is very friendly and you can definitely relax here. It's not formal in any sense of the word. Smoker, nonsmoker, no problem. This place caters to each equally.

Flemings makes a great steak, but for the best one in So Cal, go to LG's. I have no idea how or if they flavor their steaks, maybe it's just the aging, but they taste GOOD. My wife ordered their prime rib. It was so huge that she could barely finish half of it. Their sides are okay, but I'd suggest saving your appitite for the steak.

It had better, as you pay for the experience! My wife ordered the Fleming potatoes, which is a sort of layered potato casserole complete with cheese and peppers. The waiters cater to you and believe in good customer service. Great for a special occasion.

This is a very family friendly place to eat breakfast. The waitresses are accomodating of small children and are very patient. There is a wide variety of breakfast foods available and their buttermilk pancakes are the best I've ever tasted. You must get here early, when they open, in fact. This is especially true on weekends as the place gets crowded quick, but it is worth it.

You end up walking under a rail road track and you can see water lines and small fossils in the cliff walls. We love going during a full moon and letting the waves chase us at night. Great place.

I love the Sports Tavern in Aliso Viejo. The only problem is that the place is closed on Sundays. Other than that, it's a busy but casual bar and restaurant. Full array of alcohol and TVs. They occasionally have live bands and it's really fun just to hangout. The food is fantastic, too. They cook a mean steak.

My wife and I both love shopping at Kohl's. We purchase mainly clothes for ourselves or the kids, but it's a fantastic place for seasonal shopping as well. They send us coupons all the time and we get quite a bit of Christmas shopping done here as well. The staff is friendly and their customer service center is top notch. I'm really glad we have a Kohl's near AV.
