Dr. David is a fabulous doctor. I've never had an unpleasant visit and her manner is very friendly and professional. Her staff is usually just the same way. However, if you are not physically in the office, contacting anyone there is nearly impossible. Today alone, I tried probably about 20 times to call the office and not once did a real person answer the phone. I know they have multiple phone lines and multiple nurses or receptionists there to receive calls, yet the line is always busy. If you call between 12:30-1:30, you'll get an answering machine because the whole office leaves for lunch then. Also, The office closes at 7:30 pm usually and 4 pm on Fridays. Not a problem at all, except that I just tried to call at about 3:15 pm and I got a message saying the office was closed. It is exceptionally frustrating. A doctor's office needs to be reachable. All I need is a prescription rewritten and I cannot get a person on the phone. Sure, this is not an emergency, but don't advertise certain hours and then not abide by them. I'm going to try calling a few more times and then have to give up until Monday. I like my doctor and her care is good, but the services and policies of her office are making me consider another option.

This new restaurant opened up several months ago near the town where my parents live. I am a fan of Indian cuisine, but my family members are more weary. This place is fabulous, from the decor to the service. You get the customary Indian "crispy" bread (sorry don't know the real name) and 3 different dipping sauces. All are fabulous. We ordered tea and were brought big pots that were about 3 cups each. They even gave us complimentary samosas as appetizers before our meal.
Our actual dinner was amazing. We ordered a lamb dish, that had big, juicy chunks of meat, and two vegetable dishes. The first was a traditional lentil dish that was smoky and a little spicy. The second was like vegetables in a spicy sauce. All were such different tastes and soooo flavorful and good. The owner is also the chef and he came out to check on all the tables at least once. The service was great and very attentive. We brought home our left overs and enjoyed them for a few days after wards. I will certainly be returning here and it is my new favorite Indian restaurant.

Morristown, NJ is known for its historical part in the revolutionary war. George and Martha's fittingly takes from this history as a "country", old fashioned, hearty food restaurant. The decor is a mix of old and new, with a autumn-colored theme and exposed brick walls. It has a large dining area, but since it's new in town, there is usually a wait.
I visited for lunch and had a vegetable soup to start. It was pretty good, but filled with mainly potatoes. Next I had a spring salad that was so big and filling! I substituted chicken for duck, which was not a problem, and there were cranberries and nuts as well that accompanied a fruity dressing. My friend had a turkey sandwich, and the turkey was not deli meat, but real pieces carved from a whole bird.
That was a surprising touch that made the meal authentic and "home made."
Our waiter seemed a big frazzled or out of it, so it took a while to get our drinks and food. That aside, the food was good and I would like to go back and try the dinner menu. There are also funny pictures of George and Martha Washington that adorn the walls.

I've worked across this street for quite awhile, but just recently discovered Faces and Names. This pub is hidden between hotels in Manhattan's busy midtown. They always have a $7 lunch special, and it really is a great deal. The choices are so good! Like pesto ravioli or braised beef sandwiches. My coworkers had some sort of pasta dish when we went. I tried some and it was pretty flavorful, not overcooked. I had a salad....can't remember which though! It was huge for $7 and I did like it a lot. They also regularly have drink specials. The service is very do-it-yourself, and when we went it appeared one waitress and one bar tender were taking care of the whole place. That made it difficult to get our check, but for the value, I would go back. The walls are decorated with hilarious caricatures of celebrities, hence the name.

If you ever find yourself in the town of Queeche, Vermont, you must stop by the Simon Pearce restaurant. The White River runs through the town, and ages ago a dam was built so that the glass factory could harness it's power. The main dining room offers a beautiful view of the impressive falls and on a summer day is a fabulous spot to have lunch. Simon Pearce is known for its hand-blown glass and pottery. The main building is a store and factory. If you find yourself waiting for a table, which often happens, stroll around the shop or watch a rugmaker weave a carpet, or a hand-blown glass be made and pottery going into the kiln. All the tableware used at the restaurant is hand made at the factory below. The menu is ever changing and I like that they use the resources from local farmers so vegetables are always fresh and ever changing. I've had crab, chicken and many salads here, all fabulous and inventive. The decor is rustic, charming and elegant. They also make quite a delicious iced tea mix. If you've in this small town you must stop by just to browse and learn about how they create such beautiful pieces. It's certainly one of the best restaurants in the area.

Before going to a concert at MSG, we stopped by this bar Stout. Most bars in this area are kinda small and dumpy, but not this one! Stout is two huge floors with more than enough room for everyone. The first floor is a traditional bar with TV's playing sports. It has a large open area and lots of elevated booths on the side. Downstairs is where the fun is. There are 3 different rooms - another traditional bar scene, a red theme smaller cocktail room, and posh lounge space with cushioned benches all around. I was just surprised by how huge the space is and the variety of the people there. It was very packed, however. Seems like a big after work scene. They did make kind of a weak vodka tonic, but I think I can forgive that and stop by for another visit.

Bobby Flay has always bothered me because he thinks he's God's gift to the food network, but his restaurant Bar American is actually very very good. The decor is rich tones and a really gorgeous split-level space. We were seated on the balcony that over looks the main floor. First, the drinks are very good. I tried a Kir Royal and a Belle Poire. We then ordered to much food! My meal started with French onion soup, expect the cheese was cheddar. Amazing! The dinner rolls were warm, and some had an herbed, smoked cornbread taste to them. I had like six. We ordered a bunch of side dishes to share like a trio of seafood salads. The lobster mixed with corn and potatoes in a sort of creamy sauce was fantastic. My favorite side was called hot potatoes with blue cheese sauce. It was very thin but big and lightly fried strips of potatoes that you dipped into warm blue cheese. This was heavenly. I could've eaten it as my main course. My entrée was salmon, grilled to perfection and accompanied by a cranberry flavored cous-cous. I didn't have any room for dessert, but the meal was excellent. Several others had steak and said that was also very good. We had like 3 waiters, each being very attentive and polite. It's definitely not a cheap place, but fabulous and filling food!

I visited the Central Park Zoo for the first time this weekend! Also it's small compared to The Bronx Zoo, it features a lot of animals. The center of the space features seals and you can watch them be fed 3 times a day. The rain forest room was the best. It's a huge two story greenhouse where birds are just allowed to fly free. All kinds of tropical plants surround you and it's a nice 80 something degrees in there. It even "rains" every so often. There is a "temperate zone" featuring monkeys that were very cute, and an "arctic zone" that had penguins, puffins and polar bears. All the animals seemed active, but I just couldn't help wondering if they had big enough cages/environments. The polar bears seemed a little sad, but how could I really tell? The only disappointment was the red panda - he was no where to be found in his bamboo trees. It really only takes an hour or so to go around and it's designed for children. Normal adult admission is $8, but I know they do free weekends every once in a while so check it out!

I have never ever been to a Hooters in my life, but a friend from the South came to visit and out of all the places in Manhattan to have lunch, that's where he chose to go! The place was packed with a rowdy group and all like 20 Tv's in the place were playing football. It was hard to have a conversation when a good play was going on. The menu is pretty basic, but they definitely have great wings! I tried the 911 sauce, they were pretty spicy. I also really like their curly fries. My chicken ceaser salad was a big portion but the chicken wasn't as spicy as the actual wings. I must say, not many of the girls seemed....qualified to be working there. I mean given the name, I was expecting Pamela Anderson clones walking around. Our waitress was nice, but very flakey. She got my friend's order wrong twice and then refilled my iced tea with coke. Maybe it was just a rough day given the football crowd. Anyway, it was an interesting experience, but I think I'll see what other places there are in the area!

I had a special occasion to attend last Friday and wanted to look fabulous. I chose Jean Louis David because it was close to where I needed to go and it has very reasonable prices. A blow out is listed at $25. I had to wait a few min, even though I got there at 9am and they did not take appointments, and I was assured that there would be no line that early in the day. Not a big deal. My stylist gave me a very nice blow out and I looked good! Unfortunately when I went to pay, by bill was $40!!?!! How did that happen? When I asked they said it was because of the length of my hair. First, I don't have super long hair, its a few inches past my shoulders. Second, shouldn't someone have said something to me before/during/after the blow dry, not just hand me the bill? I found that to be very bad service and it soured my experience. I don't know if they do this with all their services, but I was not happy.
