I had been meaning to stop by this candy store since it was (next to?) the old Ben and Jerry's in Burlingame. I finally got my chance today. They are maybe halfway the normal bulk candy that you can find any candy store, and have some other candies that may or may not be their own. The options weren't too exciting, but they did have a number of "barks", my current favorite, so I decided to try the Oreo bark with dark chocolate. It was a very good combination of Oreos and dark chocolate. I also got a small "turtle" that was good, but not all that fresh. Also, I was the only customer but it still took awhile to get the owner (?) to serve me. I may go back, but if so only because it is currently the only candy store in Burlingame.

This place has been in San Francisco for awhile and has some really interesting cookie choices. I like the "Tipper" cookies which have chocolate chips and M & Ms, and the "Hillary" cookies that are like brownies with pecans on the edge. I guess they like the Clintons. Anyway, it is a nice change from the standard Mrs. Fields for a mall cookie store.

My wife and I tried some of their chocolates today on a trip to the new Westfield Mall in San Francisco. It had an interesting setup, with candies in a rectangular shaped display that you could circle around and the employee carried a tray to get your choices. They had a lot of different types of chocolates that were weighed (Godiva charges a flat per-piece charge, so it's nice to just pay for what you're buying). The service was a bit weird, with the display, but the chocolates looked interesting. A nice change from the standard mall chocolatiers.

My wife and I were looking for a place to have dessert during a date night, and we thought Copenhagen might be open and it was on the way home. We were happy to see that they were open until 9 on Sundays, so we stopped in. You can get dinner (and lunch during lunchtime), ice cream including sundaes with lots of Double Rainbow ice cream options, or pastries from the bakery. My wife loved the many coffee options as well. The only problem we had was that there were so many registers it was a bit unclear where we wanted to be. However, we enjoyed the hours and the options and would definitely go back! It is so nice to have a dessert place in the Peninsula!

I had been interested in trying this restaurant because I saw it had a favorable review on "Check Please Bay Area". I was able to get a discount gift certificate on restaurant.com so that clinched it for me. The restaurant is small and cozy, and the staff is very good. The food is just okay, however. We tried the garlic soup and the sourdough soup and enjoyed them. We also got the pork chops and the cabbage rolls and they were pretty good, but we won't be rushing back to go again. It is interesting to try once, however.

I stayed near the airport at the Westin once. It was so close to the airport and so loud in some rooms that it was literally like being on the runway. I was on edge all night until I asked to be moved to a quieter room. The staff was pleasant, however and did move me (with a comment about it being near the airport - not your typical Westin hospitality).

I stop by Draeger's when I am looking for something in particular that is expensive. I don't always find it, but I do find some good things. They are a full grocer, with a cooking school and gourmet restaurant upstairs, as well as cookbooks, gifts and dishware for sale. They have a great selection of hard to find chocolates (not the one my wife wants, though) and some great upscale items.

You can get their biscotti in some of our local supermarkets, but if you go to the actual shop they have "ends" or their secondhands which are a bit cheaper. They have really great biscotti, and interesting flavors like lemon biscotti with dark chocolate and the traditional biscotti as well. Very good, traditional Italian cookies.

I've always been interested in trying Honey Baked Ham since there was always such a line outside the store around holidays. We ended up trying it last Christmas. The food is actually pretty over the top - the ham way too sweet, and the sides weren't very good either. However, if you have extra ham left over it makes a really good grilled ham and cheese. I'd try it just for that, but from the catalog it doesn't look like you can get a small amount at all.
