Golden Gate Park is not only beautiful, but it's got tons of amenities. There is the herd of buffalo (believe it or not!), Stowe Lake where you can rent paddle boats and row boats, the museums (De Young, Asian Art, Academy of Sciences when it is remodeled), the Japanese Garden, the botanical garden, so many kids playgrounds, soccer fields, the Tulip Garden, the windmills, the Beach Chalet, Children's Playground (they say this is the oldest something -- you'll have to read the sign yourself!) and my favorite, the Shakespeare Garden where I got engaged!

Coyote Point is a really nice place to visit when you want to see animals (they have a small "zoo"), want to be inside, or otherwise need to entertain your kids. It is really convenient to 101 and downtown San Mateo. They have summer, spring, and winter camps for kids, and "Toddler Tuesday" where there is some craft project for toddlers.
Unfortunately, there is talk of closing this museum down. I wouldn't be surprised if the local yacht club and golf course wants to take over the gorgeous land it rests on. This would be a big disservice to the kids (and adults) of San Mateo and surrounding communities.

The Alcatraz tour is really fun, but to avoid disappointment, remember to get your tickets early! My friend came into town and I didn't get tickets before he got here and we couldn't go! But I've been many times, including with my son when he was 2. It is a really interesting and historical tour, and you get a boat ride over there as well! We haven't seen any ghosts yet, but you never know!

My son just went to his third party at Daly City Party Playhouse and loved it! The large room is an inflated looking castle (like the play areas in McDonald's), with a smaller area (mostly a ball pit) for the younger kids. You *have* to have socks, but fear not, if you forget yours they will sell you a pair for $3. They have a nice waiting area for adults with couches and magazines too. After the party you have pizza and cake in the back, and then they have an arcade that you can play Chuck E. Cheese style games and get tickets for prizes. The games are expensive though -- 2 tokens or 50 cents for each game. They also open for the public during the week for $5 a kid (per hour?). Great fun!

These paintings are so reminiscent of the '60s and I think it's really odd that they still have a gallery in San Francisco dedicated to them, but they are still just as moving 40+ years later. The gallery is nice enough to aim a few outside so that everyone walking through the Financial District of S.F. can enjoy these kitschy items.

This class is pretty short -- 4 sessions. It always has playdoh and then 3 other art projects for the kids. It can get really boring once you've done all of them and there is still 1/2 of the class to get through. There is also singing at the end which seems out of place in an art class, but my son enjoys it. The most fun project so far has been painting t-shirts but besides that it's pretty boring. We won't be going back after one session.

I've been using this site for about 10 years. It has pretty much every movie, tv, etc. piece of information you are looking for. Many of my friends have listings, even! My only complaints is that it is a pain to add comments, go to the forums, etc., and their news is from the U.K. so it's worded strangely. But all in all a great resource!

I just bought an Infiniti M35 and I'm really happy with it. I was surprised that a car that weighed aobut 1500 pounds more than my Acura Integra could be more nimble.
I got the sport model that has 19" wheels and the reason I bought it was it was the only model that offered the aluminum finish interior. The wood finish interior on other cars looked really cheap.
My favorite features are the bluetooth, intelligent key (so you don't need a key to start the car) and my XM satellite radio.
The ride is really quiet and my coworkers have decided that I am always driving to lunch now!
If I had to do it again I might get the M45, which is more money but the increased horsepower would be worth it.

This place has been in San Francisco for awhile and has some really interesting cookie choices. I like the "Tipper" cookies which have chocolate chips and M & Ms, and the "Hillary" cookies that are like brownies with pecans on the edge. I guess they like the Clintons. Anyway, it is a nice change from the standard Mrs. Fields for a mall cookie store.
