I didn't take advantage of all the cookie stores when they were popular in the '80s and now I miss them. I was happy when I happened upon the Sebastopol Cookie Co. because I love cookies! They also have biscotti and muffins and coffee. The cookie types were pretty standard, but they also had a "triple chip" which was good (milk, white and semi-sweet) and I liked the idea of their white chocolate and toasted almond (I hate macadamias and love white chocolate in cookies) but they were a bit "granola" tasting to me. I loved their ginger cookies. They also had "cocoa java" (mocha, I guess), cinnamon, and different standard chocolate chip cookies. I wouldn't run back but if I were in town I might stop in again.

I was trying to buy slippers for my grandson and went in September but they only had a limited selection. After going through three or four other types that didn't work out, I went back to Nordstrom and now they had some great slippers, just like I was looking for. They're also having their half yearly sale right now (Nov. 2006). They can be really expensive so it's worth trying to hit their sale.

My friend loves Peet's coffee so I decided to stop in and get her some. I bought a half pound, and they offer you a free cup of coffee (I thought it was only for pounds of coffee, but I guess not). I said no, so they gave me a "rain check" which is so helpful if you have a friend that likes Peet's you can give your free cup for them to use whenever! The staff is really friendly and their pastries are 1000% better than Starbucks these days. They also have gourmet teas as well.

I used to shop at Bed Bath and Beyond sometimes - mostly because everyone registers there for their weddings, and they consistently send you 20% off one item coupons or $5 off one item coupons. I went in looking for sleeping bags for my grandkids and they no longer have a kids area! They had a couple of "kid themed" comforters but not as much as they used to have. It is kind of a stretch to find things to buy with the many coupons you get, but when you can, it's helpful. I've bought a lamp there before that I really like, but I'm not convinced even with 20% off that it's cheaper than Target on some things. It's worth it to shop around.

I am a fan of shopping at Costco when I can. They have some great deals. The big drawbacks are that you need to buy in bulk, that they don't always have consistent stock and that there are so many choices! I just went by because last year they had Panettone around this time, but $100 later (really cheap in Costco dollars) they didn't end up having it this year! I did find lots of other stuff to buy and I was really lost since there are just so many things to look at. It's really daunting. They also have birthday cakes, but I'm not fond of the Costco ones. Some Costcos have gas, tire replacement and many other things. It really can be a great deal to buy a membership.

Im a big fan of Fresh Choice anyway, but I just had a really good experience there. This location in Mountain View is really crowded with families and large work groups but their staff works really well in this situation. We were there with a large group and they were seating people and were very helpful by carrying our trays and drinks to the table. I like this location too because they have better soup selections than some of the others, and it is a great location near tons of shopping so you can stop in for lunch and get everything done at the same time.

They have a drive through which makes it easy, and if you go inside you can watch the donuts go down the line while you're waiting. The only drawback of this location is it's right next to In and Out and that sometimes causes traffic or you not being able to get into the parking lot.

I really miss the '80s when I shop at Express. It started in the '80s and there weren't many stores so it was a treat to go there. Well, the '80s are back at Express. They have '80s inspired clothes these days which I like -- tailored clothes and a bit dance-y. I wish I had the body I had in the '80s and then I could wear these clothes again. But it's definitely fun to shop there.
