Unique and fabulous Mexican food

Thursday, July 06, 2006
I'm a New Mexico Native and I've eaten lots of Mexican food at a lot of Mexican restaurants, and Frida's is, hands down, my favorite place to eat Mexican. My wife (also from New Mexico) feels the same way and we go there often. The atmosphere is very nice, paying homage to Frida Kahlo, a surrealist Mexican painter. They play nice music, and it is not uncommon to find live musicians there. The plates are very large, serving as a canvas for the carefully prepared entrées and side dishes. The food is gourmet and you should be prepared to eat something very different than the ho-hum stuff you would find at Azteca. You will find bananas, squash, and eggplant in their delicious dishes with very sophisticated sauces. My only complaints about this restaurant is the decidedly unromantic location in a supermarket parking lot, and their desserts, which tend to be pre-prepared. I go for the dinner though, and the fantastic cuisine of this place far outweighs any negatives. I recommend Frida’s to all of my friends. Go try it! YOU WILL LOVE IT!!
