In the heart of bustling Bellevue sits a rural pasture called Kelsey Creek farm ( http://www.ci.bellevue.wa.us/kelsey_creek.htm ). This is a great day trip to take the kids. There are trail paths for jogging, hiking and bike riding (for the kids). They can ride the bike to the kids playground (with bathroom facilities) for a picnic, a game of tag or Frisbee. Then head over to the farm so the kids can have a first hand look at livestock: the grazing sheep, cows, ponies, Molly the pig, chickens, goats, rabbits. I like this park because it is off the beaten path (read: not crowded). You have to know about it.
Admission is free. The park is located in historic Wilburton neighborhood. Watch the signs carefully at I only saw three and they get exponentially smaller as you get closer to the park. You can see the animals until 3:30pm, but the park is open dawn til dusk.

There is a multitude of uses surrounding this park. I used to walk around the lake, roughly 3 miles round (2.8 or 3.2 depending which trail used), to get outside and be surrounded by people doing the same thing. Primarily, I enjoy the people watching.
Aside from the lake, there is a great kids playground in the north side of the park. It is always filled with kids and parents find this a great meeting place for playgroups. The playground is across the street from the Greenlake Public Library and by the Greenlake Community Pool.
I like to go here and catch a drink or meal across the street on the north side, or vice versa. You can bike ride, Rollerblade, walk, jog, run, walk your dog or take the kids for a stroller ride. There are athletic fields, boating, picnic, wading pools available. ( http://www.Seattle.gov/parks/parkspaces/greenlak.htm )

At the intersection of Kent Kangley Rd (516) and Maple Valley Hwy (169), also known as Four Corners, is a quiet and charming little bank across from Shakey's restaurant. The people who work there are good natured and welcome you upon entering, and everyone wanted to help me!
If you want a neighborhood bank where you don't feel rushed, don't feel like a number, like the bankers I remember when I was growing up, then this is the bank for you. (Some banks are just getting too big, too fast) I immediately built a rapport with my banker and after discussing my personal banking needs, I whole heartedly believe that she is a banking SME. We got to know each other and even found out that she lives in my community!
Really, in the age of technology, it's not an issue for me to have ATMs at every corner. All I need is a grocery store if I need cash, other than that - have debit card will travel. Their rates are competitive with the bigger banks, so, for me, it's service that makes a business stand out from the rest.
A few days after opening up a bank account(s), my sent me a personally signed welcome letter. You know it's little, but it's these little things that matter to me.

There is a Bank of America drive-up and banking center in lower Queen Anne on Mercer Street and 1st Avenue West. It is pretty convenient if you are in the area for a concert, Sonics game or happy hours. There are two drive-up ATMs that allow you to do banking without having to leave your vehicle; pretty nice if you have two napping kids or running late for your engagement.
The bankers in the center are nice and helpful, OK. But, I like the fact that with the ATM, information is within reach when you need to do quick withdrawals or deposits to your account, or have questions regarding your account. Most importantly, computers don't give you attitude.

I like the bankers at the Bank of America Northgate branch. They were able to work with me on opening up accounts. The banker was totally accommodating and didn't mind that I had a zillion questions. If she couldn't answer it, she patched me up with someone, an expert who can. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience working with her that we decided to do business with them on additional services. What nice people they were. It is true, the personalized service made a difference when we had bids out for a mortgage.
Bank of America Northgate branch is attached to the Northgate Mall. They have a separate entrance. ample parking is available. There are 2 drive up ATMs available. This bank is easily accessible from I-5, Lake City and Northwest Hospital.

The people at the Bank of America Eastlake branch are the best in their class. I've taken them for granted and didn't realize their greatness until I've gone to other Bank of America drive-thru's crappy service.
The window tellers at the Eastlake facility greet you with a smile. They look genuinely happy to be there and want to do business with you. After the transaction, they are willing to answer any questions that you may have regarding your account. Also, they have sold me on a couple of their services because they were able to assess my needs and suggest services that I can truly benefit from.
They get an A+ and will drive out of my way to do business with them.

I just can't get over how impersonal the drive thru service at Bank of America in Lake Wilderness is. If you have transactions that a computer can handle, the tellers there are capable. If you have any questions regarding your account, usually someone that has a pulse can answer, they are incapable. I have given them chances, and each time the drive thru people are cold and impersonal! If they have a line, they can't handle the stress. No accommodation whatsoever. Haven't they received additional training? Is it management at fault? Or is it the extent of their capabilities as window tellers? Better yet, replace the tellers with drive-up ATMs, they can provide more information.
If you want a small town feel, go to the Bank in Four Corners. They'll take care of you.

Costco serves my needs as primary purchaser of the household by providing the right products at the right place at the right time and most importantly, at the right price! In addition, as our taste matured, I think Costco followed their customers by seeking what demand and providing it.
One example is their expanded selection on organic products. For a long time, they have a remarkable price on organic milk. Now, they carry Stonyfield Farms and other organic frozen foods, prepared meals (sorry, brand names elude me right now). We all know that organic food can be pricey, so any discount provided by leveraging bulk purchases is ok with me.
One stop shopping convenience. If you are having a party or a picnic, this is the place to be! When at Costco, I usually get my gas' worth off my fuel efficient car and do the following:
1) Buy tires. Tires go on sale in the springtime (check the coupon book mailers). The tires are nitrogen inflated, Costco offers free tire rotations and carries a warranty on the tires. The tires are installed while you shop.
2) Pick-up disposable contacts. Their price beats out 1-800 contacts.
3) Order digital prints. At $.13 a print, they set a standard on quality prints.
4) Largest selection of wine or beer (good for parties).
5) Produce. The bell peppers are cheaper here. They have 6 for $4.99 (2 of green, red and yellow).
6) Bakery. The carrot cakes, croissants and those muffins! The chocolate 2 bites are worth fighting for!
7) Dry goods. I stock up on sundries (ie paper towels, pet food) and cut down the total shopping trips during the year.
8) Gasoline.
There are other services that I just don't have the time for, but is available when I need it. For example furniture, a kitchen faucet, a piano, books, apparel & shoes, garden plants, office supplies & furniture, travel services.
Costco takes American Express, ATM debit cards, cash and checks. They have a wonderful return policy and Customer Service is very non-threatening.
One downfall, certain locations get crowded, especially on weekends. I try to go on a Wednesday or a weeknight.

Cactus in Madison Park is a good place to meet the ya-yas for happy hour, a light meal or whenever. They have nice outdoor seating that allows you to enjoy our nice summer Seattle evenings and people watch. Inside the decor is light / spanish style. The menu has something for everyone, I'm a carnivore and have gone there with my veggie friends before, it hasn't been an issue. The people are nice and the ambiance is unpretentious. The plus, Madison Park is out of mainstream and situated by Lake Washington between 520 and I-90 bridge. Street parking is aplenty.
I highly suggest their wonderful margaritas, mojitos, the fry bread and fajitas.

If you want your event to stand out from the rest, I highly suggest Pyramid Catering ( http://www.pyramidcatering.com ). I have used them to cater our wedding years ago. Until now when our friends and family recall our wedding, they unanimously talk about the how good our food was.
We had guests of 100 from both out of town and local, republicans, democrats and third party. Their tastes varied from vegan to pacific islanders where a party isn't a party unless you served a pig cooked in a spit with an apple in its mouth. We wanted local northwest cuisine interlaced with my asian roots. AND, we wanted all our guests to mingle and have an opportunity to get to know each other.
The solution? Our catering worked with us to accommodate our guests' every need. They worked with their vendors who cook Filipino food. We had food stations laid out throughout the rooms to accommodate the guests and encourage intermingling / networking. We had a meat station (the pig was cut-up in the back), a seafood station (the salmon and was in attendance), and a vegetarian station (the stuffed mushroom caps were great).
They worked with our budget and was accommodating in every way. Kudos to Pyramid Catering for making our event extra special!
